Default Re: lights on for bike / what about mopeds ?

DTRL (Day Time Running Lights) have became the norm on most new bikes and mopeds over the past few years, I believe there is some Euro legislation for this that is being extended to cars also. So over time all new vehicles will have lights permanently on, but until then there will always be some that don't use them.

Yes its common sense to have lights on a bike in day time. But not all riders do, the same goes for moped riders. Some of them have them on, some don't. I occasionally ride with out lights on in the day due to the drain on the battery and the fact the SV's charging system can't cope over short distances.

I can't really say I've noticed more mopeds then bikes who do/ don't. But oddly I have noticed more car drivers without lights on... at night!

they ran a trial in austria iirc, however as you might expect motorcycle accident rates jumped during the trial, so the idea has been abandoned

i get in a rage when i see these idiot types that have the brain processing power of plankton

how hard is it to turn your lights on?

also even if its a dinky scooter, if you're coming off at 30mph, you dont want to be wearing just a piece of jumper and trainers, then the tshirt types in the summer...

doesn't help that they're all clearly n0bends in general (i'm sorry but sometimes abit of prejudice never hurt anyone)

my current pet hate is the muppets in cars who think its OK to drive in the dark with a partially failed headlight bulb, with double a?sehole points if they compensate by using main beam on the other.

Exactly! Hence why both my baffles are out. Have a lot more people moving over when i'm coming through on my thou than on my 650.

The way i see it is, headlights/high viz vest are only good if car drivers are looking in their mirrors, my cans MAKE them look.

yup tis true, my mate danielle was rding with me on her SR125 out in front, we came to some filtering all ok until she come up behind a big white van, she wears a hi-viz and has her lights on, couldnt get through, i pulled up just behind her and give teh SV a good rev, and over he moved! made us a nice 3ft gap... she later said it was like teh parting of red sea! lol

yeah i agree, or just drive in the dark with sidelights or none at all, why not have them on all the time? they havent even got a dinky battery to worry about... alas

i might take my baffle out at some point, its fairly tasty with it in though, maybe when spring is on its way
