so the son is going back into the land of van ownership, he needs insurance.
One non fault 4.8 years ago, 1 fault 2.9 years ago and a CU50, 3pts/£60. So we find a good quote but need to phone to buy. Gits because of his "accident history" they will not honour the on line quote where we declared the history. Is this par for the course? Are there are organisations who slew the online quote to suck you in, and then come up with their real price when you talk to them? ended up paying £400 more than the initial "best" quote. I just wish he could have held out for a couple of months. Many brokers ask accidents in the last 3 and he would have been clear. Still dad pays the deposit and mum the 10 installments. He just buys the van.

I never trust the online comparison sites and always ring the best priced one to be sure they're happy with the details and that I'm happy with them. Bit paranoid possibly but with accidents and other oddities you want a clear situation should you need to claim. You don't want to find out too late that you're not covered.
I would not be surprised if the situation Tim saw here was indeed a hook, just to get the incoming call. Many industries do it - employment agencies have that "perfect" job in the window but once you're talking to them it has "already gone" for instance.

I'd say a call to the ASA should be in order there, clearly what they are advertising doesn't exist and therefore they shouldn't be advertising it.

I had a similar problem with my car insurance last time round. After finding the cheapest via a comparison site I called the company to take the offer and they went back through the details with me and then added c.£100 to the quote. Their explanation didn't hold as all the information I gave them on the phone was the same as what I had written. They held fast until I threatened them with the ASA and then I got the price I was quoted... |

yes. Last year when renewing the poofwaggon we went to comparison sites.
Our current comany was quoting £997 FC. The cheapest quote was a 4x4 specialist which came in at 400 quidish. When we called they said 'it was a glitch in the system' and couldn't honour it, their real quote was over 1300 pounds! Less than a years claims for my new driving, was the excuse. In reality we couldn't get any cheaper than our current provider, so had to stay with them. Its all a bit poor really, sucking you in thinking there is someone out there cheaper. We were more miffed that as a learner,we'd had a small refund on our premiums, when we added me as second driver...then have the years premium double at renewal time. We'll see if it happens again when we renew later in the year, I'm thinking it will.

I had a long conversation with my new bike insurers clarifying things. It was lovely, they sent me several very worrying emails asking ME to call THEM (they seem to have forgotten who had just paid who several hundred pounds) and when I did they said a lot of details I had supplied were incorrect or at the very least inaccurate. I responded by saying I'd put everything in correctly on the comparison site (meerkat related) and it wasn't really my fault if THEIR system interpreted 'third party hit you' as a non-fault claim by default.
In the end I had to pay a bit extra but they gallantly waived their admin fee, which was pretty fooking kind of them given the general tone of all their exchangesw with me. |
