Thanks mate, we still can't quite believe we have such fabulous things and have been known to sneak out to the garage very late to double check! This is after nearly 2 years owning the 348 and a year of the TVR (2nd time around!)

We have already had the 'nice Toyota mate' comments about the 348, to which we just :D and rev the engine a bit - it has decat pipes on so makes quite an interesting noise. :smt077 Not many MR2s have a 3.4 ltr V8 in them!

Primarily my commuter when the weather is too crap for bike use, but I think I may have to modify it into some kind of survivalist vehicle. The rear seats and the two in the boot are coming out to make way for my airbed, and I have plans to install a butane gas bottle powered cooker ring and other camping comforts in the rear compartment for when I go racing and on trackdays. The boot area is massive, so there'll be plenty of room for everything I need. If I acquire too many scratches and dents I'll give it a coat of satin black paint all over.

The Maverick was never a desireable vehicle, and they aren't much cop off-road, but ithey are reliable and comfortable so it'll do as a makeshift camping wagon, and it's only cost me 200 quid with a year's MOT and 6 months tax.

I don't really do cars, bit I do love bargain motoring

Here's my motors:

Daily driver Beemer diesel with 'a just run in' 220,000 on the clock. Great car, cheap, powerful, economic, reliable, rear-drive sideways action!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/walkaboutandy/DSC00006.jpg

My current project, a 1972 1302 semi auto bug with the following mods:

Manual conversion to high ratio box
Adjustable Kerscher coilovers with Koni dampers and uprated anti roll bars
Porsche 944 discs and calipers all round
Porsche 944 master cylinder
Porsche cookie cutter alloys, fully refurbed
Mazda RX7 13b injection rotary motor
Sierra cosworth alloy radiator with leccy fans
Still needs an exhaust, wiring loom/ECU fitment, and loads of other bits and bobs before she can run. I've been a bit slack lately choosing to play on my bike instead of spending time in the garage but hopefully be on the road for next summer.

They are awesome! They rev up to 9k before redlining to 9,250 rpm... In the wet they can be quite twitchy... and I can draw so many likenesses between the S2000 and motorbiking.

Since I started biking though I've used the S2K less and less, and so will most likely be selling it in the near future... but if I got a fun car again, I'd get another S2K like a shot.

I thought you said it was £200 or something! You must have stolen it!!

I only paid 200 quid for it, seriously. When I got it there was no MOT or tax and it had been standing for 6 months because the previous owner had tried to sell it from bad pictures and a bad description - no-one even phoned him up, so I made a silly offer and he accepted it. It used to belong to my kids' new step-dad, who's an old old mate of mine and my ex just wanted it off the drive because there are 4 cars in current use parked up there, and this was just getting in the way. The battery didn't even need charging, it started on the key first time and settled to a steady idle right away.

Straight after collecting it I took it for an MOT and it sailed through with just one advisory regarding a rear anti-rollbar drop link, which costs a fiver and takes 10 minutes to fit. I've got one on order.

When it comes to buying cars and bikes I'm just a jammy sod :p

Heres a pic of my first and current car, although it is broken at the min. Head gasked failed and engine effectively melted, so doing an engine swap...(have been for past 3 months, I work slow!)

Car is now fixed and roadworthy, passed it's MOT on Wednesday. Managed to source a second hand engine for £180 and didn't have to pay for labour as mothers partner did the work whilst I helped a little bit!

I bought a 216SLi brand new in '97 and gave it to my ex (the one whose new husband sold me the Maverick). It had a new engine at 8000 miles because it knocked the bottom end out. It also went through 3 gearboxes (all kept jumping out of reverse), 2 ECUs (terrible fuel consumption), 3 sets of door seals (all whistled), 2 alloy wheels (they cracked) and numerous little things... all within the first 2 years. When I walked out on her she was upset because I was taking her car, but the warranty had just ran out so I told her to keep it and wrote the money off.

That car carried on going for another 8 years without any problems at all until it holed the rad and seized... then she tried to sell it back to me after I'd given her the bloody thing in the first place. Naturally I declined so she said I could have it for free, but it ended up being scrapped because I couldn't be bothered with it.

Hi all,

Long time no post.........

Here's my bit of 4 wheel fun:

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/1487/car6.jpg

Has modified induction system, wider turbo down pipe and a sports cat. Obviously it's been remapped too.

Sounds fairly standard as I've kept the back box standard, it's fun to drive, very comfortable and it's been known to upset the drivers of a few more expensive cars. Probably doing about 275BHP.

yes it is!!! there are only very very few left but they are ace. never let me down and it'll plough through any weather. a right pi$$er to get parts for though.

and the number plate system in germany is area code-two letters-number. all our cars have 611 because that is our lucky number. you get to choose the letters and number for your car if the one you want is available. and it's free. i actually think the system in england is way too confusing.

My ex boss's missus has one in Indiana. He keeps buying her new cars, and she keeps using the old 325ix BMW she's had from new in the late 80's. She won't entertain the idea of driving a different car, which really hacks him off because he's all image concious. I borrowed it once when I worked over there, I was quite impressed with it - a real driver's car.

Both my bugs needed new heater channels and floorpan halves, rolled the first:rolleyes: then blew the engine on the second, replaced it with a twin port 1300 gold seal, then had to replace the front beam, fitted one with adjusters, the previous one had been cut and twisted so far it was almost riding on the bump stops, but the stance was ace.

Nice looking bug you've got there, what are the future plans for it?

fadedhalo

sounds like youve had a time with yours!
heater channels/floorpans are a bitch to replace.

thanks :) its been fun doing it thus far. the big stripdown there was for a chassis swap as the old one was rotten - a horrible job - i dont ever want to have to do again lol

the initial stuff is just to get it so its reliable again. its gone from a 1200 to a 1600 twin port and its running like a bag of spanners.

i have almost finished the bodywork repairs too now, so i would like to try and get some proper paint on it sometime soon too - prolly next summer id guess.

i also need to lower the rear of it again. i figured id run with the nose down look for a while but i preferred it when it was lowered properly all round.

Get on a BMW forum and someone WILL buy that purley for the fact its the rare 4wd model!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't like the bill for a complete wiring loom. BMW tried to stiff my housemate 180 quid just for an E34 5 series battery lead, when all that was wrong was the bolt-in fusible link was cracked. BMW don't supply the fusible link on its own... but we found one exactly the same as the BMW fitted one at German and Swedish Car Parts for 30p

yes it is!!! there are only very very few left but they are ace. never let me down and it'll plough through any weather. a right pi$$er to get parts for though.

Makes you laugh when BMW go on about rear wheel drive, knocking FWD and, to some extent, Audi's 4WD system......

Bet it grips though :D

as far as i am concerned, BMW got it right on in 1986, no need to go ar$ing around for another 20 years with rear wheel drive, which sucks IMO. audi have it pretty much bang on now too, the newer A4s are just plain scary (70 in a bend that you should be taking at 40? no problem! with gravel AND in the wet? BRING IT!)

Ha - my first car was a chevette. It was hilarious - never had such backend-out fun as a chevette in jamaica yellow on remolds. The floor pan was rusted through, the starter motor needed occasional treatment with a hammer, the windows opened by sliding them down with the palm of a hand, but it was mine!

because BMWs, especially the last one I had (325Ci, 2004) handled like a cow on ice. The 2008 330Ci catches pretty quickly, but it slides a lot too. Not keen on rear wheel drive.

They just defy the laws of Physics. My driving style in that car is borderline reckless, just because I know by some miracle the quattro is always going to catch. Gives my co-pilots a lot of wooooo-fk! moments.

You've got it all wrong and I'd be seriously careful about being borderline reckless in an audi quattro if I were you. They don't have the type of electronic diff control like hardcore evo's or subaru's. Audi road cars are notorious for understeer in a bend. Also if your quattro decides to let go then you will get zero warning and you wont know what to do to correct it. You should also be thinking about your passengers!

If your rwd beemer handled like a cow on ice then you're not driving it properly. Driven properly it would p1ss all over your audi (and even my rs6) in the bends. Why do you think 90% of racing cars are RWD? Because they're best for racing/cornering due to the ability to go tighter in the bends. They're also predictable when they do slide.

Having never driven an evo or impreza I would not care to comment on their performance. I would, however, suggest that at the same time as me possibly having to work on my driving style, you might have to work on your manners whilst posting? Or have you seen my driving, Mr. Schumacher?

Had quite a few cars, but the best two I have ever owned would be my Mitsubishi Evo 6 GSR and my Ford Focus RS.

The Evo when I had finished with it was kicking out just over 335 BHP and the Focus RS front wheel drive fun was 260 BHP.

Think the Commadores have a far worse here in Aus, then the Fords do hehe.

My wife used to have the same fearless attitude driving our impreza thinking 4wd is the b all and end all and that it would never catch her out until she spun the car. Thing is with 4wd's is they kind of behave like a spring compressing and when it lets go it lets go, i.e. if something unsettles the car like sudden throttle lift off whilst hard cornering then look out because it'll more than likely want to spear off into the nearest hedge.
