As everyone else put pics of Alfas up here is mine.
It's a 2001 2.5 V6 156
Sadly I had to sell it in February as it needed about a grands worth of work doing on it. A proper car, it seemed like it was designed to be good to drive and nothing else.

How do you get along with that RX8? I hear the service intervals are quite short (oil change every 4000 miles is it?)

fine does use a fair bit of oil the way my mum drives (likes a bit of slide action, almost sead rear end action but sounds wrong :smt012) lol the wheels are crap thogh the we got the car with 7000ish miles and they were allflakey so have some new powdercoted ones and use the crap ones for winter.
good runner hasentfailed (Yet) but you do get a few anoying noises like anoying rattly gearbox input shaftbearings but aparently acording to mazder they all do it just some people hear it more than others
so a good car all in all
lots of Alfa fans on here.
They are great cars but while not all the horror stories are true they do cost a lot to run. Well mine did anyway.

True True ..... I love 'em too .....
Before the Lotus, I had a TT ......... and before the TT, I had an Alfa 147 .... great car ..... and whilst the TT felt like the better built car... the TT let me down 3 times, and the Alfa never !!!
Niggles - yes ....... breakdowns - no !!!
I'll buy another one day ...... probably a nice black 159 :o

Big and slow by comparison to older Alfa's... Might want to look at either a HTA, GT or turbo MiTo

After the Lotus .... nothing 4 wheeled seems that exciting these days..... so I'm not that fussed really ..... thats what 2 wheels are for these days .....
Fast, refined, and with a bit of style is the order now ...my last car (a 3.2 V6 Audi Quattro (A3)) was close .... but no excitement, and little in the way of style ......
I love the tan leather you can get in the Alfas ...... that alone is a reason to buy one ....

That was the Auto Delta 147 GTA.
I wouldn't mind them sorting a 156 GTA for me. They will bore out to 3.7ltr, turbo and super-charge and upgrade the car. 550bhp and handles on rails, woo!

I know a guy who has two and his black one is the mutts nuts
I've lost count of the times i've nearly bought an Alfa and swerved at the last minute. I love them but just can't commit. My dad is exactly the same. Between us we have probably gone into an Alfa dealers more than any other car dealer showroom and ironically there is now an Alfa dealership about 100 yards away from my parents house.
A friend of mine is also a car salesman in a used Alfa garage so it is inevitable one day.
I liked the 75's, especially the run out limited edition model with the sz style wheels and recaro seats. A friend of mine had a rare beast, an 86 model Guilietta rs, 2 litre four pot turbo.

Erm compared to what? the 156 with the right wheels/tyres is a fine handling car as is my 166, the 147 can get abit skittish at speed but then most shortwheelbase cars will.
All cars go wrong period, if properly looked after alfa will be no less reliable than any other car... Dont forget not many main stream cars rev like an alfa engine so they do need a little extra tlc, ive driven all makes of car germans, swiss, japs the lot and nothing has given me the feeling that driving an alfa does. most others are just sterile machines..

Well cheers Cymraeg_Atodeg. Since seeing your 156 I have spent a lot of time looking for a new car. Trying to find a black 156 Selespeed. In two minds at the minute, whether to add to my fleet and buy an older version or chop in the Lexus for a newer lower mileage one....oh the gamble.
Seriously ......... I'd stay clear of the selespeed .....
I had one when I took my 147 in for a service .... terribly jerky tempermental thing ..... stick with the sweet manuals ....

26-11-09, 01:10 PM
Lack of storage, lack of use, got 3 vehicles and only one bum so it's surplus to requirements. Free up some cash.
Bought it when I got onto the property ladder and sold my previous car to be debt free (mortgage requirement) got hooked on this (my 2nd 205gti) ended up spending lots tidying it up. Bought the clio in Feb this year, more practical as a daily runner, bought the SV soon after so as I say, surplus to requirements, just no real rush to sell.
Ah... did you mean how much for? lol
£2500 ono I imagine.

I once drove a 205. The gearbox was so knackered. If you imagine a 5 point star and that each gear was at he tip of each point of the star thats how knackered it was.

you could fix that for £20 by getting new gear linkage ball joints easy.

Yeah I suppose it is a bit big, but it also doubles as the boot release.

I must say she is damn great to drive!
I'd rather have one of the old landys than that mustang... as it the same age as me and therefore knackered.

That Mustang.. is my ultimate.. joy... I could marry it.. and host it's babies... I am so, unbelievably jealous.. I will discover who you are.. track you down... track the owner down... and steal it.
Best year too, in the best colours... I both hate and admire that man!

I love Mk1 Minis, but the roof should be black on yours - only the BMC works rally and race cars had white roofs out of the factory. If I was being a proper pedant I'd say the wheels should be silver too. That's one of the last Mk1s, cos the Mk2 came out in 1967 with god-awful hydrolastic suspension. I used to buy those when they were cheap and run them into the ground then scrap them when the MOT ran out. I wish I'd known then how much a good 1275 or 1071S Mk1 would be worth, and I had a couple of both that ended up being scrapped.
New toy, BMW 318i ES with every available extra except leather (which I didn't want anyway) and a full main BMW dealer service history. I bought it the other day el-cheapo because it has a dented bonnet. Got it a grand under book and it's mechanically perfect, just the dented bonnet spoils it so I'll have a mate sort that.

This is my new car - a 1999 Honda Accord Type-R - full service history and has been totally loved for the past 4 years by the previous owner so it is mint both inside and out. Paid about the going rate for it but I wanted a good one and they are getting harder to find. Its an awesome car to drive and a lovely car to be in - I am over the moon with it :)
