Is that the sport with 170-180 bhp?
They look great fun, always fancied one myself.
Yep 182PS.
Great handling but the NA engine can be tiresome if you're not in the mood.
There's nothing below 5k rpm, so if you're in the wrong gear you have to wait for the power. When you do Rev it out it feels like it's going to explode :D. IF you're in the zone on track or a good B road it really is an amazing package. There is a trophy version with uprated suspension.
We've had a few of the common niggles (burst dampers, suspension mount needed replacing under warranty, rattling heat shield) but it's been reliable and has generally taken the miles well.
We'll keep it forever... but i need something with a turbo to scratch that itch... at some point before I get an estate so I can get my dog. (oh and i need a superduke and a gsxr-750 so not sure how i'm going to fit it all in the garage ;))

Yes 182 with cup suspension and spoiler. The colour is limited edition only 70 in the country! (fortunately the 1st owner took a big hit in the wallet for that)
There's some great cars tucked away on this forum, good thread!

I saw that, and have heard good things about them. Bit of a Q car, which appeals!
Have been keeping an eye on impreza sport wagon sheds to use as a winter hack. Slightly wary of getting a real dog of a wrx for £1500... But the 2.0 GL might be pretty bombproof so ok at that price. (couldn't get more than £1.5k past the mrs). Something in me is also saying Porsche 924 or original scirocco, perhaps even corrado for an interesting shed to run about in. Then there's a mk1 mx5 (eunos with LSD) to do the roadster thing.
So much choice- wish I hadn't started thinking about this again!
My first love (after the wife and kids of course! :smt003), It hasn't moved since July, mainly because of using the bike, crashing the bike, breaking my leg and being unable to push the clutch pedal, so the battery is flat now but...
In the stanford vw show 2006....

DF, nice Transporter. Id love one of them for camping!
i might be taking ownership of a 1997 1.2 RL Clio. I know you're all really excited by this but for £300, could be the perfect winter beater.

I need a winter beater - that sounds ideal - although get ready for the huge lack of any performance - does 40mpg though :) (Mrs Skip used to have one)
Im not bothered about performance, I can only do about 40mph in the traffic anyway at any one time. Most times its stop start. I do like the sound of 40+ mpg though.
Wont be a long termer, just until I find something that will satisfy my requirements.

Thanks - It's the 111R with the 189BHP Toyota vvtl-i lump in it (8,250rpm red line), there might be a few more ponies in there as there are a couple of mods but not had a chance to get it on a dyno yet.

Sounds to me like you need a volvo V70 T5 or maybe even a V70"R" if money allows, if it fits in your garage you'll be able to fit both your bikes and your dogs in it at once to save space
I dont think you can go quicker than a T5 for the cash cheap insurance too compared to impreza / legacy turbos.

same block buddy, very different engine. Yours has a VVTi head not the VVTLi which changes the lift at about 6k and screams to the red line at 8.5k.
Both great engines but the rush at the top end is addictive (and not good for fuel) but both failed the euro4 emissions regs and had to be killed off.
Never understood why they never fitted the 190 engine in the MR2?

The 111R uses the Celica GTS engine but the Elise weighs a little less and I think the Elise is 220BHP per ton (Don't quote me on that as I might be wrong)
Don't think thet it is as simple as a head replacement as all the 111S (the 140 VVTi engine) would be doing that.
I have not tracked my car coz I'm a little worried if I bin it then I have lost my daily drive to work, which is 50 miles each way. I do plan on doing a car control day on a wet track using one of there cars as the past couple of weeks the car has been a little on the twitchy side.

Well I've just picked up my new Peugeot 306 GTi-6 and have driven it home. Pretty pleased so far, a gentle cruise back saw just over 100 miles on a quarter of a tank (which should be handy when towing a bike ;) ). The car has full Peugeot dealer service history and is very tidy, bar the odd stone chip and very small parking dings.

The car is riding on some nearly new Pirelli P6000, which I've read are not that good, so will be getting changed at some stage for something else. It also came with two part worn Bridgestone Potenzas and a set of steel wheels with snow tyres fitted.

The interior is pretty nice, with the seats in a leather/alacantra mix. The gear knob is a bit tatty and may be replaced with a less worn item but apart from that it is all very presentable. The radio/cassette will be changed for something I can plug my ipod into, but don't worry I'm not going to fill it with ICE (mainly because it would melt).

Initial plans for the car are pretty limited. Fit a tow bar for bringing the bike down to the 'Ring in the dry will be one of the first things. I'll also be fitting some uprated pads and better tyres for spring 'Ring trips (as always suggestions welcome, but something a little more road orientated than R888s). After that it'll probably just be a front strut bar until I get used to the car and figure out what I want from it. Any further mods beyond this will likely be in the suspension/tyres (R888s or similar)/wheels, but who knows where I'll end up.
So wave if you see me at the 'Ring next year.
Looks nice Tim, I like the Alcantara/Leather mix. A nice MOMO knob would set it off. Are you used to driving left hookers? How many miles on the clock has it got?

Left hookers are fine, had one in Belgium. In fact in Holland I think you can find any type of hooker you like ;)
Miles are 90k which is a fair bit and cost a whack more than the equivalent car in the UK. Plan to keep it for a couple of years so no real worries about the price. I must say it's very relaxing to drive. Haven't been for a proper hoon yet as still to find some good roads.
Yep I like the interior, makes me feel all grown up. Momo knob and wheel may be an option.

If I end up keeping mine (gone off the idea of an A3 due to hearing about some expensive belt issues) then ill probably need a new set of tyres. Fancy something fairly hard compound without being noisy. The Toyo T1Rs I have at the moment are too soft at the sidewall which makes chucking the rear out more difficult.
I do like the look of those Mitsu Legnums but I dont fancy running one. I have driven a new Mini and liked it but theyre expensive when im looking to get slightly cheaper. 172 Clios seem to be very cheap these days but not tried one and have doubts about french reliability. Are they the modern day 205? Peugeot certainly dont make anything as hot as that anymore.

Rob,
Clio 172 (or more) is the bees knees for modern french clutter, everyone I know who has driven or owned one has absolutely loved it, it is THE modern small hot hatch (none of these bloated civics/foci/golf/leon/meganes etc.) . They're becoming a bargain, now is the time to buy before the economy picks up in 12 mths time. They can also deliver good mpg, I know of people who have got 40+mpg average when driven gently. It makes too much sense. Actually, where's my wallet, I should be buying instead of typing.

That's just reminded me of the worst company car I ever had, a BX1.9 TZD estate. What a horrible wallowy bag of crap that car was. I worked doubly hard to get a promotion that came with a Cavalier SRI just to get out of the bloody thing, at one point I was seriously thinking of purposely writing it off.

Thanks Lozzo
Luckily I only need a car for rainy/icy days as I can cycle to work - so something like this is ideal...

For something like that it'd be ok, but I was spending all day in mine and I grew to hate it in short order. It really didn't like going round corners like my Astra LXi Estate had before it.

Never been really into cars, I rode bikes full time before I had to drive cars for work.
Had some nice coupes when young and single, but then dogs and family arrived and always needed estates since.
Completely gave up on expensive cars when one just like this
http://www.holyroodcars.co.uk/images/cars/bmw320-53.jpg
blew its turbo and ate it's own engine a couple of years ago. It was 3 years old with 80K miles and just a week out of warranty when it blew. I was just looking at changing it for a new one, another month and it wouldn't have been mine anymore. Repair bill was nearly 9 grand, which BMW paid most of (after lots of threats), but it still ended up costing me about 3 grand including loss of residual value when I sold it.
I am on a car allowance which covered the cost of buying and running the BMW, but whenever something went wrong it hit my pocket, so I went and bought a Mondeo hatchback, which met a sticky end on a motorway crash barrier (boot was never big enough anyway). Now I have a Vectra SRI exactly like this one,
http://fifthgear.five.tv/features/vectraestf_400.jpg
http://fifthgear.five.tv/features/vectraestr_400.jpg
which is doing loads of miles at the moment 'cos of me moving down to England and it's doing an excellent job of it, and this is what I like best about it
http://fifthgear.five.tv/features/vectraestboot_400.jpg
Sad eh? A picture of the boot! But for me thats what the car is all about, it's just a tool, treat it like that and you don't get upset when it gets scratched or dented (or blows up). The only quality I look for in a car is space and the ability to get on a motorway with a full tank and not stop again until it runs out. If on my own I'll quite happily drive Scotland to London non-stop. Who knows, I have a new job where I work from home so won't do much mileage, and I have a bigger car allowance, so maybe in a couple of years when I replace the Vectra I'd quite fancy one of these

im saving up at the mo for my sv
Well here it is - 217,000 miles of one owner turbo diesel Citroen goodness! £230 with 6 months tax and a whole years MOT - well chuffed! :D
Well that was short lived - it went for an MOT and failed on the front subframe having a crack in it so big you could put your hand in it! Luckily I had not parted with any cash!
So onto the next thing - picked it up today - its a 1997 BMW 316i Compact - clean, tidy and lovely to drive - not fast but does 35mpg+ so I am well chuffed - it was a total bargain too :D

To be fair Ralph I've seen many a bespoilered whooshing treved up subaru drive down the road thats made me lower my head in shame, we're not all like that, honest.
Take it you're a Subaru Impreza driver then...
I don't want to tar everyone with the same brush, because there are plenty genuine car enthusiasts out there who like their fast cars, but a vast majority of Subaru Impreza drivers round where I live are agressive, reckless, and generally not nice people.
Very occasionally you come across one at traffic lights or in traffic, usually a very tidy, completely original car, and you look across and think "actually that guy looks like an alright bloke", but most of the time you see a chav at the wheel.
I've concluded that these guys have a massive inferiority complex. They buy such a car because they have to be in the fastest car at every pair of traffic lights in order to feel good about themselves, they need to be "king of the road!", the big man! They are the kind of guys who buy a rottweiler 'cos they want to be seen to have the hardest dog in the village.
The EVO used to be more of a enthusiasts car, but unfortunately now more and more chavs are buying those too.
I'm quite happy to stick with my Vectra Estate and my labrador, though if I wanted a fast family car I'd have a Golf R32, Audi R'series, Merc AMG, BMW M'class, something like that. I'd prefer to get a 2 seater for the wife though, something like a Porsche Cayman and use that as a toy when I fancied it and just drive a normal A6 Avant for the work and family duties.

The "NORMAL A6 [S3] AVANT" is one very tasty car,had one while my A4 1.8T was off the road. You can watch the fuel gauge go down as the speed goes up.
Any Porsche after 85 will do for me,never had a car that tracks so accurately as a Porsche.
Alas due to retirement now just memories

An update on the 306:
Well I got back to Yorkshire for Christmas and found a few early Christmas presents for the car waiting at my dad's.
Some slightly stickier rubber in the form of R888s:
http://inlinethumb52.webshots.com/42227/2980988480084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2980988480084392296UJGCAC)
http://inlinethumb02.webshots.com/42945/2420983400084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2420983400084392296hxOqhz)
These are in the medium compound and a 195/50 profile rather than the 55 profile that the 6 normally runs, as a) they're cheaper in this size and b ) turn in is meant to be sharpened up a little and c) the lowered gearing may help uphill ;) .
The set of standard scuffed wheels were waiting too:
http://inlinethumb54.webshots.com/44725/2905450650084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2905450650084392296nTqHnw)
Although they're more scuffed in the flesh, so I may be refinishing in track super white to make the car stand out a bit.
There was also a shiney new strut brace:
http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/11738/2024701440084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2024701440084392296dVDBCh)
Some less shiney lightly used pagid pads :
http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/24881/2034334040084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2034334040084392296ZLNRHE)
A 2nd hand front fog light as mine has lost it's silvering:
http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/42333/2010896900084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2010896900084392296hqKBOu)
And a replacement gear knob, although it's a bit tatty too so won't be going on the car:

Some more work was done on the 6:
Firstly I wired up the rear speakers that were fitted but not working, about 15 mins of blade connectors and it was all sorted.
Next was the highly technical job of fitting the strut brace. Apart from temporarily losing a washer down the back of the power steering reservoir it all went well (the washer was received after some judicious shaking of the french tin and a magnetic screwdriver). Now fitted and sorted, with new longer bolts:

And a dirty shot with dad's 4x4 shed in the back ground:

BNP left wing? I suppose they are compared to Attilla the Hun or Ghengis Kahn. I think you might actually need some slight less right-wing plates, something along the lines of COM 1E, P1 NKO or STA 11N might do the job.

or rolled? (Or are they the same thing?)
captainsmelly

iirc rolled is cutting away excess metal, tucked is reshaping it? i am more then likely wrong though.
btw thank you lozzo for correcting me as well, i could have made myself look quite the silly head!
Mr Speirs

I thought being rolled is pulling the body work out and away so they get wider and bigger arches and tucked is folding them up and inside.

Aslo if you have any bother with your transfer box just get it locked permanent 4x4 :-D
