I see my point has already been covered :D

MrT's 2p is priceless.
18th September deadline for anyone to show intention of a proposal
23rd October deadline for proposals to be shown
with
1-31st October a poll running for dates when the event will be held. (extended a week beyond the end of the venue poll to allow people to vote whos date preference depends on venue)

Then November onwards is free for the organisers to book/arrange everything they need. eg some porta potties ;)

Better vote for us then.....no need for porta potties.....lol ;-)

I could say I want to arrange AR10, which then means you've all got to wait until I've done a proposal which could be 6weeks or soemthing by which time I might think ahhh F'it and change my mind, means you've been held up 6 weeks.

. the phase "time waster" would spring to mind,

Really? I'd have gone with something much harsher
****** ***** **** ******** **** **** any of those plus variables. But it doesnt mean someone cant offer to do one with good intention but then have to withdraw due to unforeseen reasons. But ever well intentioned it'd still hold you up fella.

AR09 was my first one, and I enjoyed the massive group ride. The pace was good for newbies like me, so I can see how some of the more experienced riders might have found it a bit slow. But with such a big group it's the only workable option.

If people want a faster ride I'd suggest planning an optional ride for the Sunday. My thoughts are:

a) Use as much as possible of the Saturday route, but in the opposite direction
b) Groups of 6-8 riders set out at 10 minute intervals
c) Each group can request one of the markers to lead them or just follow the map

This limits the amount of route planning but should still be interesting. What was a twisting ascent on Saturday would become a tricky descent on Sunday. It would also allow the markers to get a days riding if they fancy it.

Just my (newbie) thoughts,

Keith

Why bother waiting? Hovis / GG clearly want to organise it, have already gone to the trouble of securing a venue for three possible dates that has everything required to make it a belter. There is a great riding route already thought out that caters for all abilities. It's a no-brainer.

Anyone else who would seriously be interested in organising naything would know about or have seen the proposal thread by now - just declare it done I say.

This seems to be an excellent location/venue. A pucker hotel where I can rest my weary bones with proper facilities and you lot + Hovis nearby to drink beer with. What more could an old fart like me want.

not everyone views the org daily. As done as the deal seems, someone WILL complain if its done and done before everyone had a reasonable chance of knowing about it.

I've mentioned a Sunday rideout myself as well, but I don't think a Sunday ride out should be organised with markers etc. That's what the Saturday is for......the Sunday, if it were to happen should, IMO be an opportunity for people to ride however they wish, follow the route at their own pace and look after themselves. Hovis could easily have maps done for people.....but as it would be his to organise.......lets see what he thinks!

TBH If he's got a decent group prepared to help out I agree. Looks a sound idea.

tbh whatever happends someone's bound to complain - there's no way any venue will suit everybody.

Yep, but as Leedsmatt said, we have to wait and give people time. You're right though.....you can't please all the people all the time.....luckily we've got a venue that at least should keep everyone happy and the route certainly will!

Hope you can make it whether Wales gets it or not!

ROFL! No bodies foolish enough to have thought it could.
I know you cant please everyone and some people will complain, what ever the outcome. But as least if its done properly you limit the amount of things they can complain about.

Well done H and GG for stepping up and volunteering. You've clearly put a lot of time and effort into the planning already. The place and all the bits sound great!

My little point though, and it only affects a few of us, is that the DATE of the AR is as important to me as the location and venue. I can't book any time I like off work unfortunately.

I agree that a date for people to express and interest and a follow up deadline to post up fairly fully formed plans, is pretty essential.

But from experience I do think the motto for any AR organiser is
'You can't please all the people, all the time' ;)

AR10 - Northamptonshire Proposal:

http://www.edmontoncyclingclub.fsnet.co.uk/images/flatbike.jpg

Sick of picturesque countryside?
Tired of winding long roads with roaming hills and grazing animals?

Do you want a taste of the action?

THEN LOOK NO FURTHER FOR YOUR 2010 CHOICE....

NORTHSKANKTONSHIRE!

Had enough of that secure feeling, ready to get your bike criminally damaged and your belongings stolen while you sleep?
Fancy riding along 10 miles of 'challenging' broken tarmac and braving the town centre?

This exciting venue will hopefully fulfill all your fun filled requirements for the AR10.

Camping will be at Billing Aquadrome, just a stone's throw away from the famous Ecton Lane Travellers site.
http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/en/councilservices/Environ/waste/PublishingImages/000644-001242.jpg
Better than the Wales contender, the site has a canal for swimming which can challenge even the most skilled swimmer.

http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/23056330.jpg

Early mornings bring the scent of the local sewerage farm to your nostrils making you appreciate the wonders of human waste disposal technology.

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5464179/2/istockphoto_5464179-sewage-farm.jpg

This venue is well noted for its fabulous shows and displays, however there will be none at the time of the AR10.

Campsite rules are simple...find a place pitch your tent and wake up in the morning wondering where it all went...
Spend the rest of the day at the charming Police Station reporting your losses, of course I will arrange for teas and coffees while you are there (its not what you know ...... ;) )

A trip for the evening into Northampton town centre can be arranged at a cost of whatever you have on your person at the time (eg: mobile phones, wallets etc)
View charming local chavs around the few seedy nightclubs
Traditional TWOC and 'burning out of motors' can be viewed under select circumstances which can be arranged closer to the time.

http://insidenorthampton.co.uk/AroundNorthampton/busstop.jpg

If you are really lucky you may even get to visit and sample the hospitality of the local NHS.
http://andrew-simpson.org.uk/images/sites/217.160.173.25-403f24b31a4188.47388265/68.jpeg

Right guys.......as for food......I've sorted it just now, need to PM Hovis about it before it gets added to the proposal, but put simply, there will be a burger van on site from Friday lunchtime, with a marquee for cover and tables, seating and heater provided, if necessary (which we hope it won't be).

This has been arranged through a family member and so I have been able to arrange subsidised prices, but this is not the run-of-the-mill burger van. They are local to Hay-On-Wye, all of their food is sourced within a few miles and is of excellent quality....no mass produced burgers, sausages or hotdogs....it's all very high quality and somehow, cheaper than any burger van I've ever been to. Probably something to do with my Brother-in-law having used them for the past 10 years+.

Now.....they have kindly agreed to offer tea and coffee free of charge all weekend, however, I would like to stress that as they are being so good, it would be nice if we could all make an effort to use them over the weekend so that they can make some money at least. Obviously some will want to bring their own food or eat in the hotel and that is absolutely fine.....but please all remember that they are there and use them if you can.

This is of course, only if we get voted in. They can do any weekend we end up going for, so that's not an issue.

To cap it all off.....they are going to do free bacon butties for everyone on the Sunday morning.

Hooooraaaaay!!!!!

Skem. Yeah we can have an AR down to the carousel at Southport (not).

Then again. If we do Skem at least there will be no problem with drugs (getting them).
Tim if you don't fancy camping round there, theres always that "classy" hotel you stayed in last time :p
