if he was serious he would have followed the guidelines for help (detailed in a sticky at the top of the section) and I'd have all the information needed to give an informed opinion, I'll leave it for other in the morning to throw guess work at it.

I know that some pattern replacements have slightly different wiring on the reg/ rec to enable them to be used across different models. They should supply you with a short loom adapter or there is a slight difference on the SV where you can change the last bit of wiring before the unit. However I can't remember exactly which way round it would be on a curvy SV as its a while since I looked.

As for the fuse blowing, I would suspect that the reg/ rec is not the direct cause as I can't see how that would blow the indicator fuse. I would suspect that when installing the reg/ rec you have disturbed another part of the loom that is now shorting and blowing the fuse.

From my experience the loom around the sub frame is prone to wear and the wires can rub through. Remove the rear seat plastic and make an inch by inch visual examination of the loom looking for any signs of wear or rubbing. Secondly I would wonder why you've now had to replace the reg/ rec and is the new one functioning correctly? Charging check time would not go amiss.

Wow, Rictus. You're a pretty bitter person. I'm just somebody looking for help. It was enough information for everyone else.

Thank you Squirrel! I'll try and make a check tomorrow.. The difference was that I no longer use the plug that the reg/rec was originally plugged into (to the middle right-side of the bike) and now I unplugged a connection behind/under the rear sear, and plugged the reg/rec in there instead. The original reg/rec cable has nothing to plug into now..

I'll have a think, thank you Squirrel, Grunty and Darren!
And Grunty, I like your profile pic... is it some of your usual attire?

not bitter, more frustrated at all thoughs that want help but expect everyone else to do the work, having added information to this place for the last 8 years, I've answered this question several times myself and so have others, I just can't see why I should have to try extracting details from you, if you can't be bothered supplying them, but then your not really that bothered yourself or you would have done, the SV isn't a new bike and the answer will be in here somewhere if you put some effort into finding it.

As I said without details it's plain guess work, if that's good enough for you then I'm sure you're well happy now.

al mate you know me and i think you would except my word on such things

trust me rictus is far from a bitter person, and tbh is in the top 5 people of motorcycle knowledge on this forum, he;s fixed more bikes than half of the org have owned,

i belive he is just getting slightly disalusoned with people not doing the basics, eg reading the if you have questions thread, using search, or not descibing things in a half understandable fashion, im not saying you didnt but hey ho

i think this bit is the relevent sticky point
Want technical advice? Read this first.
1) When you ask a question relating to your bike's mechanics/electrics/suspension/whatever please specify exactly which model and year of SV you have, and any relevant changes/modifications you have made. Actually put down all the changes/mods you've made, whoever is giving an informed answer will know if they're relevant or not. If you have a description of your bike in your sig do not rely on that as some people have sigs turned off.

the responces you have recived have been educated guess's due to your discription (my bud squirel has givin you broad and correct advice plus he's seen your bike in person hence his ease to answer), a fuller discription would have given individuals like mark the relevent details to more than likely answer your queery with exact detail and fix your prroblem immediately

of course anyone (like me) who couldnt describe an apple well ,can still get help on the forum but more info no matter how badly worded is the way to go, you obviously had more info which you added later which would have made life for those trying to help easier, its give and take

whats spidy fav quote ,computers dont have eyebrows i think that you might need to take a sec and reassess

rictus not everyone knows your sparkling personallity so if i may, wind the neck in big lad and help the young'un out ,not everyone is as inteligent ,goodlooking, and brillant as me

now back to the problem at hand
your reg rec is fecked***

No teddies baby - there's enough good feeling going round tonight.

*Now, how often can that be said?
