Not voted in the date poll as date isn't a priority for me, I won't know whether I can make it or not until a location is chosen, I attending this year but didn't take part in the rideout and although with exceptional company it just wasn't the same, so my criteria is to be able to get there and do the rideout.

That may involve going on the Thursday (if I can manage the extra time) or perhaps binning the Friday night for some recover time ( no I can't see that happening either) but if it's not possible then I won't be repeating this years efforts.

I've planned a number of other excursions earlier in the year so should have a fair idea of what I'm capable of without to much discomfort.

On another point I see all the dates are within the main school summer break, perhaps the demographic has changed or family holidays are no longer taken at that time?
Although that’s one thing that won’t effect me fortunately.

Be interesting to see how it works out and I wish whomever takes on the mantle of organization good luck with it all.

Cheers Mark.

I'm too mean to do family holidays..lol I put him in the coal hole while i'm away!!

Ok thats a lie, but having my little darling round for 6 weeks solid turns your hair grey, so a weekend away on me-time is much needed. Plus taking family holiday at that time of year is getting more expensive these days and not worth it. Oh I wasn't doubting the catering last year at all, it was fantastic and it amazed me how many people it did cater for with much left over! I just meant, space-wise for camping etc.

I was mightily impressed at AR08 (not that it takes much to impress me ) and as my first it definitely made me eagerly await the next one!!! Fantastic job done by all.

I could have easily handled another 50 people - and we had enough food for them too :)

And with DevilBiccy back in the saddle - ie another pair of hands - and Jamax also - well that makes it even easier.

As for camping space - the campsite @ AR07 was at least half as big again - if the numbers are there, the camping space will be provided :)

How much riding experience should be enough for a safe first time rideout?
Do people actually know eachother personally on this site, or is it a good place for new people to meet?
I'm thinking of going next year if it would be a good idea for me with limited experience.

You've got a few months to get some riding experience in. The site members are very friendly and the AR would be a great place to meet them.

As for the rideout, there will be riders of all abilities out on the road, last year Foxyinleather did the rideout on a 125 Yamaha just after she passed her test and easily kept up. There are travelling marshalls throughout the pack, and one right at the back, who know the route so no-one will be left behind. It's not a race, it's a gentle bimble in the countryside taking in some nice roads.

Some of us do know each other personally, some of us don't. Some of us have met each other on several occasions, on many rideouts, and we consider each other as friends. Its a jolly good time to meet new folks, very good time if your a new rider too, theres no pressure to ride as fast as the wind, and those experienced are always pleased to help out if your finding it difficult.
All in all its good fun:cheers:

+1 to what the others said. In my opinion the AR is the best rideout to get experience on. The other local rideouts tend to be of a more brisk pace and are more about the actual rideout, hence why we frequently do 200 miles on them. The AR however is about the socialising and fun......hence why the ride is kept to about 120 miles. You will love it and not regret it, plus, you will not feel pushed at any point as with that many riders the pace is naturally slower.

Before AR08 I'd only met a few people once or twice, but within 10 minutes of arriving I felt very welcome.

As for the rideout, there's no need to show your Rossi skills (although a few did seem to try ). I'd only passed my test just under a month before and loved it!

The way the ARs are structured it'd be perfectly feasible to pass your test and come straight out on it. We run a drop-off marker system with a tail end charlie*, so everyone can ride at their own pace without getting lost or split up from the pack.

*for those who don't know, this means a biker in a helpful yellow bib will stop at each junction and point which way to go, and a biker in a helpful orange bib will ride at the back so no-one gets left behind. Then the lucky fellows in the yellow bibs get to make their way safely and swiftly back to the front of the pack and the whole nonsense starts again!

Go on ridout with Missus on the back
Reverse previous steps to get home

PS or find someone else to take all your stuff! Worked for me last year!!

I would just like to point out the likelihood of having a nice minibus to carry loads of peoples stuff next year is very unlikely. Oh and Sally, your (read mine) tent did not survive AR08. This year you will have to provide your own.

Ooops sorry if it's anything I did. It might've been my harem tho.

If the AR is anywhere near me I can arrange a giant equipment pick up and delivery!!

hahaha

i did think of the ropes /nets stuff but there will be a wifey sitting right where they go. somehow that disappeared from my earlier post like magic. whoops

Tell the missus to get her own bike. My preferred option is to stay single and strap everything down with bungees and pull through locking straps
