Whoohoo, lets get the party rolling. First thing to keep the banter (of which I have no doubt there will mountains of) in one area...

Welcome to the official AR09 Banter thread.

Try to keep it within reason on topic. But feel free to general chit chat. Other threads coming soon to give you updates on progress, the obligatory dates poll and other such things. Please try to keep these areas clean from banter.

Just one note from me. This is going to be the show piece that convinces everyone why they should/want to attend. BE NICE

Well I guess a change of date is the most obvious answer. Summer seems to be happening later and later. Maybe a vote later in the year would be better. :smt102

I think summer seems to be happening earlier and earlier! It's beers in the garden in May, rained off BBQs in August.

Maybe we should have a poll on when we think summer is?

Totally agree. If Northy and Blueflame can come to Somerset and I can do the opposite and go to Glencoe, then IMHO anything is achievable. This only happens once a year it really is worth making the effort to travel.

MORTAL COMBAT!!!

Each region will select a champion to compete for the honour of hosting the AR09, and since it's my idea I reckon the contest should be Pelvis Wrestling (Like arm wrestling but with a slightly different focus)

The good bit of Scotland's too far for too many people, that's why we had the Massacre and why we'll have something very much like it again next year. At the end of the day, it's got to be in a location that'll suit the most people. And that's not a problem, it creates an opportunity for the big regional rides, because the AR by itself isn't enough for some of us, so we get the other big rideouts to complement the main event.

I have absolutely no idea where or when it should be though. But I'll be there anyway so it doesn't really matter that much :smt003 But I'd like to get a date set as early as poss, since it means the rest of us can plan other stuff around it.

Packings eeeeasy, just put everything on top of everything, biggest stuff at the bottom and LOTS of bungees :smt003

I wouldn't recommend a rucksack anyway, especially not that big, Lily would get awful backache! Besides the fact that you might end up wheeli-ing the bike everywhere, pillion + lots of cider + luggage = wheeeeelie! :p

so i take it the 150mile ride out is too much as well?

Probably would be :( after the ride there (unless everyone votes East Anglia more specifically Essex/suffolk ;) :D) - can only do about 120 miles max with lots of breaks on any one day :( I aim to work on increasing that come some better weather (if I can afford the petrol:rolleyes:)

how abot coming on the train? or try to cadge a lift in a cage

Long story, but I don't/cant do trains/coaches/buses/other peoples cars (no offence!) and I'm unable to stray too far from home (complex reasons:rolleyes:):( thanks for the suggestions though

Where ever we go somebody is going to moan about it.

Trouble is with voting for a location is that then we need to find locals to help us get it off the ground, sometimes due to the amount of work that an AR needs this can be difficult and as a team of mods we felt that having local support for the weekend and people who are actualling willing to put the weekend on from the start is much much more important than the actual location itself.

I'd say summer seems to be coming earlier and earlier! Our TVSF camping trip in September was a complete wash out, but I've had a lovely few easters! Maybe May/June?

I think the location will be largely down to wherever someone emerges who is willing to organise it. I am up for anywhere really, although probably not if it is too far north.

Thats right, dont be a wuss.

I did London to Aberdeen and back, 2-up on Easter Bank Holiday a couple of years ago.

And that was seriously cold in bits.

In summer it would be easy (Did London to Ayrshire and back for a funeral last October - ok so only did part way back due to slippingon some gravel and breaking a little finger, dislocating a thumb and breaking a gear lever near Manchester...
