If your parents lived in the same house all of your life it is a sad day to see it go.
It's been your home as well, and a place you never think of being gone.

My sister or I could have kept me Mum's house but we sold it when Mum could no longer take care of herself.
It was haunted as feck and both of us swore we'd never spend another night there, but it was still sad to see it go.
Yes really.

Had to go on my Jessops induction training yesterday in Birmingham. It's only been a year since I joined.
Still it was a day out and I was curious to see a bigger shop than ours.
They run courses in house which include using some of this kit.

I do like the mk 1 Camaro. If I had the money...

My effort for today is hard to make out but do have a closer look. Our neighbors are not exactly sympathetic with their garden or the hedge/trees that make up the border between us. A few years ago they had a tree surgeon in and instructed him, against his advice, to butcher two perfectly good and very attractive Silver Birch trees. One has survived and is recovering the other had clearly died. This does however mean that the local birds like to use the 20 foot high stumps as perches. When it gets dusk we are sometimes visited by this Tawny Owl who has a look round and flies off after a few minutes. This was taken on my compact as it happened to be at hand. Shame I didn't have the DSLR to hand as a RAW image would have been more tweakable, but, I'm just glad I got something!

edit - not sure if you will be able to see this. The monitor on my desk at work is just a black shape whereas my screen at home is not too bad. Hope your resolution is up to it!

I wonder why you would need to cover a bridge?
Strong winds?

By the time you've built the bridge and put up barriers both sides to stop people falling in, sticking a roof on isn't much extra work and probably makes the sides stronger. Which was obviously a good thing as they don't look very straight even so...

I'm just curious as you don't see such bridges in the UK. There's a lot of extra work involved which you wouldn't do unless there was a good reason.

There might have been some odd legal or tax statuses for "covered buildings" that made sticking a roof on it beneficial.

Wooden bridges rot pretty quickly but covering them extends their lifespan.
Wikipedia says "Uncovered wooden bridges have a lifespan of only 10 to 15 years because of the effects of rain and sun."
So it's doing alright for a 103 year old bridge. Foresight, that.

My pic for today is actually from last week - have been meaning to get round to uploading them but life gets in the way sometimes. The Design Museum in London has a nice collection of design classics and showcases how things have moved on and changed as tastes have evolved. The free section is well worth spending an hour or so wandering around if you're ever in High Street Kensington and the building itself is rather interesting too.

Eclipse and then beer, what could be better. We visited a brewery pub place in a Redding, California. Adam the owner brews everything on site and is so passionate about what he does. We'd been told it was a dead end town, far from it, we had a top night out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/c3ab38dccf7f7454d67b71d0fdc9dc75.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/b8b0860f6f403d6024137f0fd37971ef.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/990f3ec1022b3435192af2879dbeca6c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/70e4a5d87727e98f26db76c2fd984579.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/a7d39cb0563a7f8c7addf01644b33b4b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/8355f04c56359cf260c1c5dc8d1dbab7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/314012b36666cd74000f8affbf021729.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/34ed312eea88c0a13365274962ab8f48.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/f71bc21d05096eec049f4f81f19d6c93.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170822/79b70a23c22ac94cd55bd946779957ce.jpg

It was so cloudy in Buckinghamshire last night we didn't see anything of the partial eclipse that we got on this side of the Atlantic. Nice pic Bill, even if it's not yours. And for some reason, even though it's only 9:30 in the morning, I feel like a beer...

Stu has discovered a warehouse full of beer (and wine) in California. Too much choice, 5 aisles of beer in total.

We are not on bikes, we're in a Volvo.

But save up all your pennies if you want to visit America. It's ridiculously expensive. Pint of milk, £1.50. Basic packet of biscuits in supermarket, £2.30, medium pizza for one person take out £18, small punnet of tomatoes, £3.50, small packet of paracetamol £8.

And if you want a beer pay around £7 per pint for a basic IPA or £8 for a 125ml of house red plus of course a tip of 80p per drink!

And I thought that the Isle Of Man was expensive! Good lord.
Went to the local brewery last night, been meaning to go for ages. She has a night called Firsty Friday every month where she opens the micro brewery & gets some ales & gins on. Had a great night with a little entertainment to help the beers flow.

Ironically I spent 10 days close to the wine regions of Napa and Sonoma and only had about half a bottle of wine the whole trip, and that was mostly in Oregon.

I asked the tour guide about the beer Daleks but he didn't understand!
