I gave the cats a little bit of ham each, they sniffed it and walked off. Typical.

Here's my first of the year. Got a better mobile for when I'm out cycling, so hopefully I'll take more photos & also report fecking dangerous potholes & the like, which I can't do on my current phone, as it doesn't have a camera.

So 'Der Sandman' a German children's puppet character, which is still shown on German Tv. A bit like our Magic Roundabout. This was a tin of buscuits

I've dug out my old Panasonic bridge camera, bought some new batteries & tried it out yesterday on the dog.

My first input here of 2017, taken on the last day of 2016 but... FIL was heading back to Shrewsbury by train after spending the festive period at Trev Towers and I volunteered to go with him to make sure he got across Brum OK as he had to change stations as well as train and he is after all 83. It felt odd getting on the train heading west instead of east towards London! Had a bit of a wander around after seeing FIL off at New Street and rather enjoyed the modernity of the library and the odd lizard skin-like exterior of the Selfirdges building on the edge of the Bull Ring shopping centre. Lots of people snap this place and from some angles it's hypnotic to the point of disorientation. But fun nonetheless.

It certainly is a funky building as Red Ones says and looks even weirder in the flesh, so to speak.

I did wander through Victoria Square John but the weather was so gloomy and there was so much scaffolding and signage going up for the NY Eve celebrations I did not get any shots of the Floozie. Will head back when it's warmer when I'll also have time to wander the canals and the jewellery quarter as well.

Designed by a Czech called Jan Kaplickż with his then suppose Amanda Levete. He died a few years ago. Thet are the same team, Future Systems, who designed the media centre at Lord's which won the Stirling Prize. I worked with her a bit when we came to refurbish the media centre, she was very creative but didn't really understand that as well as looking good the building also had to be fit for purpose. She couldn't understand why it was a problem that the journos sitting on the back row couldn't actually see the cricket if we rolled down the fancy blinds she'd designed.

I still had to crop this image Colin. It's about a quarter of the original. Love the monochrome shot, I took one similar other day. Just goes to show that you don't need really expensive equipment to get good results.

A few from my now ancient Samsung S5.

Just a few minutes drive off the main road at Rettendon there's beautiful countryside for stroll. The jolly farmer who owns the land has even created a bench by the steam from a fallen tree that has beer holders carved into it.

A bit morbid maybe.

This Ambulance was in our shop today.
The back of which was one of the several places where I came really close to dying in the summer of 2015, and on this very cart!

Seemed much smaller in there today and a bit eerie with the lights all off.
I did not get inside.
Gave me a chill.

Sorry for the poor quality pic.

Tollesbury Wick, on the road between Maldon and Colchester. We must have ridden past the road down to Tollesbury many times but because it's a dead end never explored the village or realised the extent of the fresh water marshes. You have Bradwell on one side, Mersea on the other.

I worked late last night taking pics at an Eddie Jones dinner. The room was almost dark, they had left a couple of easels right in the line of where I would normally shoot from so not the easiest assignment. And I know nothing about rugby.

To stop my dad moaning about his new laptop being "carp" or "broken" I headed off to Norfolk over the weekend to show him how to use it. For a change I took the train, especially as I could travel out on Friday after peak times cos I is between contracts. After train/walk/underground/train I am wandering around Norwich station killing half an hour before my last train and amazingly Abelio Greater Anglia still use some first generation Diesel locomotives and carriages for some of their rural routes. There were four English Electric type three jobbies stabled there on Friday (Class 37 in TOPS terminology) which I have up on my Flikr pages. Bear in mind these were built in the early to mid-60's to replace mid size steam locos. Below is the reflection in the windscreen of 37405, as if looking up at the overhead power lines that are (finally) spreading out across more of the country, replacing more and more diesel services. It almost looks sad and you can imagine it thinking wistfully about all the lines it has travelled on since it was built in May 1965...

Living in Crewe, I used to see these on a very regular basis. They had a lovely whistling sound to the exhaust & you could hear them from wherever you were in the town. This is a picture off Facebook from a page that I'm on (Not taken by me). It was taken in 1987 before the land was bought for redevelopment. This is where all of the old engines came to die. They were dismantled & sold for scrap.
My house is situated just off this picture to the right. I'm so pleased that the land is now a housing estate :)

Not as nice sounding as the Deltics, but still a nice sound to hear, unlike these electric trains, which have no soul

Wow Col - that's a lot of dead and dying stock in that shot. Most of the 37's (and other early diesels) were fitted with steam heating boilers for the elderly carriages of their day or were freight-only sub-classes with no heating units at all. So, when newer electrically heated carriages came on line a lot of the early locos were relegated to freight or scrapped. Some were converted, like the two in passenger service I saw at the weekend which has given them a reprieve. Know what you mean about the sound Mav and remember it well from when these were seen a lot more frequently. What I did find fascinating is putting the loco numbers into Flikr to see how many images of them came up. One of them has been tagged hundreds of times and can be seen in at least four different liveries over the years in Scotland, Wales, pulling specials and charters, engineering and maintenance trains as well as nuclear waste flasks before ending up in Norfolk.

My neighbour has a similar shrub in his front garden Mav and if he ever pruned it properly his would look that nice too. Damned if I can remember what it is though...

I can't remember if it was Happerrig or Harlaw where I caught my one and only trout on the fly, when I went on a fluff flinging course there. I'm pretty sure it was Harperrig, but it was about 40 years ago. I do remember the fly or more precisely the lure, which was a sweeny todd

First time I've been to Harperrig actually. Love the Pentlands but tend to spend more time around the northern sides of them, cycling and what not.

Harperrig was great, the skies were unreal. But **** me the wind off the reservoir is COLD.
