Back to cakes for me, we have a charity bake sale at work next Friday. I'm on holiday but not wishing to let the organisers down having promised to bake I made 24 cupcakes last night that they can pop in the freezer and then defrost in time for the event.
Yes, they are very pink and sparkly but it's a 'Valentine Bake Sale' so I went with the theme!

Lew, I hate you :P Just putting that out there ;)
VERY jealous, I'd love that combination but I haven't even touched the kit I've got in ages so I'm in no position to grumble.
Nice shot too BTW, your stuff is always impressive. I want to see you do a magic bonnet shot at some point when you're doing a car next. Might be a bit passée by now but I reckon you could do it well.

Cheers! Comments are very much appreciated :) I must say, this combination is very impressive.. Along with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 L Mk2 I've been having a play with too ;) I just wish they were mine! Haha.
Funny you say that, I've got a Civic Type R booked in, and the guy with the (now) 300bhp, Mini John Cooper Works wants another one doing.. And I've been thinking about doing some bonnet trickery with the nice clean tuned engines ;)
I'll whack them up here after my holiday next week.
Did you see the first image I did with the Mini?

Like that Richie, and the similarly impressive one of NewcastleOn Flikr.
Here's my poor attempt to emulate Richies recent moon and space ship image. Still learning to use photoshop. It's so frustrating when you know what you want to achieve. Still practise makes perfect. The falcon is a model only a couple of inches long, which I lit with an LED torch to get the high contrast look.

Hi,
Don't normally post on this thread but I'm looking for some advice, I spent the day trying to take decent photos of at Doune MX track, and I don't know whether its my camera (I only use a Lumix FZ62) or me but I'm struggling to get a really sharp pictures.
What settings should I be looking at to get the best photos possible.
Here are a couple of the better things I took but I'd love something to help me get better. (please don't say a better camera I can't afford that)
http://forums.sv650.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=14781&d=1424006809http://forums.sv650.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=14782&d=1424007428
Looks like camera shake to me. Too low shutter speed. I assume you're shooting on full auto? Can you adjust shutter speed on your camera? Best speed to use is 1/125 as a minimum but it depends on how zoomed out you are. If you can't get the shutter speed up high enough then you need to increase the ISO speed, that will increase the shutter speed but the image will get grainer.
maviczap
15-02-15, 04:21 PM
I'm no expert, but a faster shutter speed & pan round with the riders, as you shoot.
If your camera has a bust mode, then you that to get one or two in focus.
Pratice panning with the riders before shooting.

To be honest Careless that first one is quite good - you get a great sense of speed and action so don't be too hard on yourself. As the others say a faster shutter and matching your panning speed to the rider will help. Ping a note off to Mister C too as he's got some lovely bike action shots over the last year or two on his Flikr page and may have some more tips for you.

There is a downside to using a faster shutter speed of course. The background doesn't blur as much and the reduces the suggestion of speed.
It's all a compromise.
Yep. Best thing is to practice. I like to pre focus too to avoid any lag.

Thanks guys had a wee look through the 220 pages of manual. The camera has a shutter priority mode, where you can pick the shutter speed. So I'll give that a go next time.
I had it on an automatic sport setting. Weird thing was is seemed to like bright greens the best and the focus was always better on those shots (or maybe the camera just had a liking for one guy in particular. It was really dull yesterday too which didn't help.
Shutter priority will do the job. If it's too dark then the camera might start to flash the aperture value because it can't go any higher and may under expose but if you have an auto ISO setting then this may increase instead to compensate. The sport setting will just adjust a whole range of settings in one go. So will bias exposure to higher shutter speeds, change the focusing to servo and set continuous shooting rather than single.

That's a beautiful shot Richie, despite the lack of trees or gothic.
As I've said before, it takes real creativity to take a shot like that - I'd be thinking "who would want a pick of a bridge in the dark?".
Is any of that lens flare artificial?

Could someone please call the fashion police.
At least he isn't wearing socks under those sandals!

I'm just guessing here but in a land where people are busy eating the face off of a crab with their lady joiners, I don't think lack of fashion is something that's going to be overly noticed.
Although not quite sure what that outfit might attract at the 'every kind of kinky sex in the world' hotel. ;)

A fit night out for neither man nor beast.
(of course I went riding)
-7 and pouring down snow.
About 4 inches in the pics, now over a foot deep.

Bloomin typical, I took some photo's of some snowdrops which have already bloomed, thanks to the warm weather. But for some reason, they aren't on my mob

great pics bill!
We actually made it out of the city on Sunday, saw this castle I didn't even know about. Buchanan Castle apparently:

Then we got on down to the banks of Loch Lomond:

Rain of the sort you only get in north Thailand. A whopping clap of thunder, fork lightning, downpour for 20 minutes then the sun comes out and it's 33 degrees all day.

Luckily we were still at the hotel when it started so we went and had another coffee and waited for it to pass.

Blue skies and most of the roads cleared, I ventured into the city this morning where 25 ft. tall mountains of snow dominated the car parks.
http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/thebanannaman/snow2a1024x5882_zpsa9af906e.jpg
But despite the beautiful morning, before I got home the snow had returned.

And with record low temps tonight and tomorrow for February (-20 tonight with -37 windchill) and more snow on the way for Saturday it's likely to be here for a while. :(
Those lady joiners, whole crabs and Thailand rain storms are looking more inviting by the minute!
taken today... at about 01:30 in Stockton.

I wonder why the States are getting all the bad snow. Its not snowed properly here for a couple of years now.
