Pete - VERY VERY envious of those shots.
Richie - you should work for the Durham Tourist Board as you make me want to come and explore the place with shots like those..
+1 for Pete again!
Agree with your views on Ritchie's shots Sir Trev!

John, am I right in thinking that's the same dam that top gear filmed at with the landrover thing?
Lovely shots by the way!

Good spot. Yes. That's what inspired me to research it and visit. There's about 4 dams all in that one area.

I can't say. I didn't see any but then I guess they don't leave them up permanently.

They used to use those just outside the village I grew up in. Luston, near the OK Diner at Leominster. It was like Christmas for us kids, we'd go and sit on, under, next to the inflatable tanks as various fast aircraft scared the bum mouse out of us!
Later, at secondary school, we used to watch the Regiment practice low level drops from Chinooks, their feet touching the long grass before the canopy deployed fully. At the same time, A 10 Thunderbolts were pretending to strafe and bomb them.
Happy days!
Pete ;)

Sounds great. I know the OK diner in leominster. If you follow the A44 west from leominster you end up at Rhyader which is where the Elan valley starts.

I have a pair of robins in the garden, they were cheeky today as I was sweeping up they came down for the grubs then wanted mealworms too. I'll post pics tomorrow. But this thing about fighting to the death, my cat brought in a dead one a few weeks ago. The cat doesn't normally catch birds and I suggested to Stu that it may have been injured fighting making it an easy target for my fat lazy furball. Is that a possibility?

Certainly a possibility; I would expect there would be territorial disputes going on around now before egg laying. It's possible that it wasn't injured as such but exhausted and just not fully aware. Meg would probably know with more authority tho I'm not sure she frequents these parts that often any more.
In some ways it's sad when a cat kills a bird but if you can bring yourself to watch it, it's incredible.

They were produced from 1850 -1873.
This one was made in Hartford, Connecticut, USA in October 1859 and sold at a hardware store in New Hampshire.
How it came to be 'down south' is undoubtedly through the misfortunes of it's original owner during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
A number of these same model pistols were also manufactured in Colt's London Armoury, near Vauxhall Bridge in London.

Isn't that a revolver not a pistol? :p
While technically a handgun's configuration is determined at the loading end of the barrel...
Clarification comes from the other end.

Some days the most important pic I take is just the simplest. Moeen Ali, named yesterday as one of the 5 Wisden Cricketers of the Year with his Wisden. 1 minute of photography, tweeted extensively.

Wee short work day and went for a bimble this afternoon. Didn't go where I meant but glad I took the detour down this dead end street.

Thank you.
In the second shot I wanted to move the bike much closer but didn't think it wise as it was on a blind crest and there were crazy logging trucks flying up and down the road. Then again I also wanted to move the sun from in front of me and have a little bit of clouds going on. But hey it was a bike run not a photoshoot, and I'm no Colin Prior.
The second shot looks like a James Bond scene :)

A bit surprised to see thus pic from you as Wisden and the ECB seem to be quite at odds at the moment.
