Had a few chaps over to see my workplace today. It's the Coldstream Guards having their annual photo - this year at Lord's. I arranged a tour for them all afterwards as well.

I see what you mean Pete.
When i joined our mob and we wore caps, there were various rituals to get rid of the helicopter landing pad that was the original issue from stores. I never got mine to the U boat commader look, but it wasnt a helicopter landing site.

Lenny - your picture makes me want to sneeze just looking at it!
Richie - they look like vents at the top, with a tail to align them with the breeze. My guess would be pottery kilns but they're too narrow and close together. So I'm really not sure.
They look like snooker cues to me. Maybe pool cues.
So Richie has been..... to the pub!

If it's 11.26 and the Sun is Almost directly over head, and I'm looking slightly away from the sun, Why is a Shadow of the CON Trail of the Aircraft on the Clouds... ???
as this is doing my head in...
Is it the plane is just flying under the clouds and the reflection of the contrails is so bright is reflecting back upon the clouds above... Or WHAT ?

My guess, and it is a guess, is the plane is above the clouds and you're seeing the shadow of the contrail on TOP of the clouds, which due to their thin wispyness (sp?) are acting like, say, tracing paper.
Or you could just chalk it up as a really nice effect, claim it was deliberate, and bask in another great picture :D.
I like it.... on the original you can see the plane.... :)

Got a useful pressies today. A wireless remote for the camera. I don't think it was particularly expensive from Amazon.
It will let me get a bit closer to the birds in the garden.

I was in town shopping today and one of the disused shops had been turned into a temporary art gallery and studio. I got talking to one of the residents and he told me his son makes props for films, hence the shots below.

Ha. No not at all. I love digital photography. I tried all forms of 35mm and got frustrated with all of them. In fact I gave up for years until digital came along. There's So much more control over the finished image now. I used to go on a trip or an outing and get through 6-7 rolls of film only to throw most of the work away, an expensive to learn. So 1500 may seem like a lot but by the time you've discarded the weaker images and duplicates, the remainder will be top notch.
We're in for a treat when Pete post some photos :)

I took delivery of the Ashes Waterford Crystal Trophy yesterday, it's back from Australia.
So first we had to make space for it in the Museum, I got my boss on the case moving things around...

Then when Simon Jones texted to say he'd be at Lord's today I asked him to do the honours for us and place the trophy in the next cabinet along from the Urn...

Pete, was it worth the arm & a leg entry fee? Want to go to the pagent, but always thought is was overpriced. Probably done that way to keep scum like me out lol.
Had a few visitors in the shop today. Mum wasn't anywhere to be seen, so we've given them to a customer that has chickens, ducks etc on his smallholding. He said that the chickens use their motherly instinct & will look after them. Sorry about the picture, my phone camera is broken.

It was £30 entry, but I didn't have to pay for parking. I enjoyed myself, took my own food, met some decent people, took a few photos... I'd say it was worth it!
Pete ;)
I went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. Similar to Goodwood FES but nowhere as large.
A few from me. All taken during a recent trip to Norway.

It's a lovely place Brett. The fish and chips from one of the harbourside restaurants is a must - the catch is landed just feet away so it's some of the freshest you'll ever have. Some lovely buildings and curios in the area to photograph too so get that eye back in and enjoy.
Oh, see if the whale bones are still up on the headland opposite the Abbey. I'm sure you can do them photographic justice ::p.

Ryanair, shudder. Been on many of them recently, not as fun as it might sound. Nice shots though! From the viewing place or another location?
Loving the Japanese garden style one Kenzie, nice walk from the looks of it!
Richie, I'm SO jealous of that fire shot, I've tried many times and not had a result nearly as good as that. Nicely done! (The portraits are pretty damn impressive but I'm not the person to appreciate them somehow)
Today I've mostly been tucked up in the apartment, shopped for supplies and a parking permit this morning then closed the curtains when it had a couple of sunny spells. So weary today, resting up for wanders about in the week.
I was in Whitby on Friday for Brunch at the Station Cafe :)
Didn't take the camera... :(
Loving your shot of the 199 steps :)
Yes Puny, saw 2 actually :)
at first I thought it was a BMW, then a Ural... but it turned out to be a Cossack. Never heard of them before :)

That Farmyard do looks like fun! Cracking photo's Richie as always.
I was lucky enough to catch the Battle of Britain Flight Dakota over the park less than half a mile from my house yesterday at the Armed Forces Day annual do.
The weather didn't play ball, sunshine and blue sky with interesting clouds all day, then a near white-out overhead as the gorgeous DC3 roared around the park for five minutes. Managed to get a few shots that didn't look like an airfix kit hanging from a white ceiling! Still, wouldn't have missed it for the world!

I'm not happy with the shot yet, think I should use a middling lens (tried a wide and this was the zoom) and 30 mins after I took this shot it's glorious sunshine here (grr!) I'd wandered round in the overcast gloom taking shots thinking it might be my only chance and then as I come back to the apartment it brightens up into an awesome evening.
More to come, got some more shots on my wander around, they're posted in the Whitby album here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/97383585@N06/sets/72157652512210543

Holy crap, check out you guys with your L series glass! VERY nice and put to good use.
Sadly I don't think I've got the time beyond the holiday to devote to photography for a while so can't justify any change in gear, I've got more than I deserve at the moment.
That being said I'm not complaining about what I've got, I've just got gear envy hehe :)
I dashed back up to the whale bone arch during golden hour to try to get something a little more compelling. It IS but still isn't what the place could be. just conditions and time of year aren't optimal for it I guess.
