View Full Version : Vintage film cameras
Yeah, we should get the keys Friday all going well. I thought £9.50 was pretty decent, not sure what I'll screw it to though. Got a massive backlog of cameras to shoot. Hope thwbKonica works out for you.

Good luck with the moving Kenzie. I suppose yours will be a weekend of cleaning. You might get some good photo opportunities in a empty house, B&W maybe.
Yeah, will be finishing up packing and then the fun begins.

Just been into a camera store selling used film cameras. They have a Minolta X300 with third party lens for £150. There are also OM10s with 50mm f1.8 also £150. My collection must be worth a fortune.

And saw an Olympus OM2n in a charity shop for £95. There is a Minolta 5000 AF with sigma zoom lens for £12.99 but I already have a 7000 AF so I didn't see thebpoint in buying it.

I've moved a lot in my life, these days though with the girls in tow it's more of a big deal. Last couple of times we used a removal firm and we filled the wagon - the last third of it was entirely from the garage/shed/garden! To be honest it's nice to have stayed put for a while. A new place is a mini adventure though!
Yeah, I wouldn't want to do it again. We weren't expecting to be in the flat for so long and have accumulated a lot of stuff. Need to make some space and bring the bikes over, hopefully mine will start as i haven't ridden since April when its mot was done. Its a great house, 3 bed semi with small courtyard style garden, double length car port and garage plus parking for three vehicles on the front.

Sounds good and lots more room. You were pretty brave to get a van and do it all yourself. Like Johnny, we hired someone and filled a van when we moved up here. Got the actual move done in a day but the packing up and unpacking at each side is the real hassle.
Bikes get priority in the garage and cars in the car port?
Nope, cars on the front, camper van projet and bikes in the car port. Thankfully we started packing non essentials about two months ago. Had this week off work and got a call monday saying it was going through and got the keys Friday. So everything was pretty much ready. Had help of sis in law and kids to pack and unpack van. Took about 10 runs but thankfully its only a mile up the road.

K1000s like buses all of a sudden.
I picked this up to repair the other OM1n which just needed a shutter speed ring. This was listed as having prism issues and low speeds not working, but part from the prism it seems in good nick. The lens will need stripping and cleaning but is fungus free. It will need a new prism and a good clean but otherwise ok. Not sure whether to fix this or the OM1n.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Its the prism. Olympus fitted a foam seal to the top of it and it degrades over time and takes the silvering with it.

johnnyrod
13-08-18, 09:52 PM
You can get spray-on silver mirror, seen it somewhere, it works fine for reflection from the inside of the glass (like this) but not for reflection from a front-silvered mirror (like the whole or half-silvered ones in rangefinders). Dunno if it would be good enough for a camera but could be worth a try.
Might be worth a look, either that or take the prism out of the om1n if its any good. Not sure what to do as I don't want to end up with loads of OM1s trying to fix the previous one!

Good to know that the OM10 fits. How's the unpacking and organising going?
Does unpacking an OM10 to strip for parts count? It's getting there, there are some niggles to sort out with the house but otherwise good. Quite chuffed with the OM1, just need to run a test roll through. Might replace the prism in my other OM1 as it is showing signs of the same problem.

15-08-18, 07:52 PM
There's a small blemish at the bottom of the prism/viewfinder in mine too. Maybe I should check the foam and replace it to make sure it doesn't develop into a problem.
Yeah, you don't want that gunk getting into where it shouldn't be. It's like old light seals. If yours is blemished then it's already started and will need replacing.
Cokin filters are universal. You buy the holder and then an adapter ring to suit the lens filter thread. I've a load in my hoard somewhere with various size rings. Useful to have.

Just a heads up, if you have any button cell batteries that are bulging please dispose of them immediately. I was tinkering with my XA and one rolled down my leg and behind me. Shortly afterwards it popped and scared the crap out of me.
A few shots from the rebuilt Olympus 35RC. I would say that focus was pretty spot on and the rangefinder good.

Some nice pics there!
I've been doing nothing for too long. At work I am filming a training video on my iphone, edited the main section the other day, need to add a couple of other bits. Did it in 1080P and 60fps, looks amazing.
Off to Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Tuesday, not sure how long we're there for before I have to go to work. Also a guy down the road in Worksop is selling his camera collection, it's on Gumtree but if you email him he sends you a PDF of a load of little thumbnails. Asked about prices of a few, most of them are fairly uninteresting, but he has a late Box Tengor, a Hunter Gilbert box camera that actually looks pretty cool, and maybe just have a fiddle with a few others as well. An Exa 500 which looks nice but I suspect is a PITA to use. Quite a few Russian RFs. His prices weren't cheap but he didn't want too much for the Hunter Gilbert so I might just check it out. I don't have enough cameras, after all.
Oh yeah, also got an Iloca Quick B rangefinder for a fiver.

Love the wallpaper. And those are pretty good results from the 35rc - a good rebuilding job.
Thanks Yoko, glad I nailed the focus. I wouldn't mind a box tengor, have been keeping an eye out for one. Still got a roll of Pan F 50 to develop as well.
Made a start on my room. The desk is from IKEA and is height adjustable with a crank, can use it as a sitting or standing desk/workbench. I also got one of the glass display cabinets for the living room to put my best cameras in. The funky wallpaper will be coming soon, picked up two rolls earlier.

I had to adapt my old desk to fit in the corner. As the room is above the stairs it has a 45 degree cut out for when you walk up the stairs. But I now have proper space for my scanner and 3D printer. Will post a pic up.
Have been busy this weekend unpacking and sorting silly little things like broken smoke alarm, blown bulbs etc, which most people would sort as a matter of course.
Johnny, did you get anywhere with the box tengor? Now we are home owners, I really will have to reign in the camera buyng.

johnnyrod
22-08-18, 08:28 PM
Good work. That spring was fubar, did you find it like that? Has someone been in there already?
No, I did that. But the end was stretched over the stop which meant it didn't work properly. It wouldn't come off so had to pull it out. Just got to figure out how to stop the charging plunger becoming detached from the other side. Easiest way is to open the door and tip the camera upside-down and it slides back in to place.

There was a little history attached to the Vitessa. The seller's father bought it new in 1952 and it was passed to him when he went travelling. So what are you lot up to?

Cool, I like things with a story. Not taken a frame, seen a few nice opportunities - as an Aussie photographer (LynnB) says, interesting weather. Shot a bit more video at work, broke the clamp for my phone so need to get another one (£1 from China or summat). Just got rid of the plumbers who have repiped most of the house! The work that has been done here in the past has been terrible.

Someone else is viewing the flex this afternoon, he will let me know if it is still available. Fingers crossed! He does have a Rolleicord as well as others, just waiting for details. I'm also watching another Kiev on ebay, more out of curiosity than anything else, but it's listed as a Kiev 2 but is on a 75 serial number. Doesn't seem to tie up with what I would expect from the usual USSR year-in-serial number convention.
