Not much doing here, work keeping me busy at the moment.
I finally got the Fed 2 how I want it. After taking bits off the body and rebuilding the lens, the RF was out of synch with the lens markings. Sorted that this morning.
I managed to sell the Olympus 35ed second time around and also got rid of a couple of surplus zoom lenses.
Oh, and i went for an Audio Technica ATLP5 turntable - direct drive and sounds good.
I had a look at the Minolta. Not one I know much about and 110 is not for me at the moment. Kenzie?

Thanks for the heads up but as to quote a common phrase of mine "I have one of those but haven't shot with it yet" just got back in from a ride to the coast. Was ok, bit chilly but my bike is now covered in crap. Spoke to a guy who was standing with a couple of brand new Honda 250 rally bikes, and he is going to be riding from UK to Mongolia on them.

Mongolia, wow! Yoko,I know very little to be honest about turntables so I hope it's a good one. My Linn was sold to me by a guy I used to work with, I'd heard of them and he let me take it home and try it out before I decided, it was an opportunistic purchase.
Put a bid on this 264189796964 I checked with the seller and when it says a problem with the winder, he means the external one - the camera is fine. Am hoping that will put people off. Also been looking at this and asked about the RF spot and meter, but the seller gave me a real generic reply so think I'll pass, and it's got a bid on it now anyway.
Spent the day in Lincoln, had a look at a Fuji X20 at London Camera Exchange. No case but reasonable price, nice though. There are a couple on ebay that look good so might be in possession of one those soon. They had a TZ80 as well (200, the Fuji was 180), nice enough but I struggled to focus my eye on the image in the EVF, even with much diopter fiddling. The X20 is 12MP but I think that'll be enough combined with a good lens and electronics, and every review is glowing.

What was the item number on the RF Johnny? If you win the ME Super, I have a couple of spare baseplates and battery covers if you need. The Mongolia guy said they may visit Turkey and Iran too, would have done India too but too dangerous to ride through Pakistan.

In my last company, before it was taken over by a US company, they did a lot of business in Iran. The project engineers spend weeks on end in the field, and they all liked Iran. We liked Turkey too, nice people etc. great food.

Pretty decent results from the G1. I was a bit hesitant to get a proper lens for it as I already have a few digitals, but DSLR like quality in a small light package isn't so bad.

Kenzie, have you got an OM20?
I was playing with mine today, thinking about putting it in the queue and the mirror slap is insane. There's no foam on the bumper, just plain rubber. Is yours (assuming you have one) the same?

Kenzie
20-02-19, 07:48 PM
I have an iffy OM20, mirror buffer is a weedy strip of something:

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7832/32217376797_d130320cd1_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/R5WtFK)

Mine has quite a slap to it. I tried to film mine but everytime I tried it mis-fired, take the TZ away and it would fire normally! Tried five times and each time it mis-fired. I think the OM10 has the same level of slap. I bought a Pentax MX and a Program A in a bundle, both listed as faulty but the A seems to be fine, just missing it's grip. I already have one so does anyone want it? MX has a dented top plate and is missing the focus screen but again, otherwise functional. Need a screen for it now.

yokohama
20-02-19, 08:21 PM
The 0M20 looks the same as mine. It seems to be a plain, not so soft rubber pad. I wonder if it's worth putting a millimetre or two of foam on top of it.
Sounds like a good deal for the 2 Pentax cameras. Is the GAS returning after the post Christmas lull? There seems to be 10% off ebay camera purchases at the minute too.

Kenzie
20-02-19, 08:27 PM
To be honest GAS isn't too bad at the moment, I've got so many to shoot with it seems pointless to keep adding to the queue. That's not to say that if a really good deal came up I'd say no, but it's also a little harder with a mortgage to cover. Johnny, did you win the ME Super? The Program A is like a later version of the ME in many ways. Not sure how many shots are left in the Kiev 4, just be most of the way through by now.

johnnyrod
20-02-19, 09:19 PM
Nah, I let it go. I've got a Super A as I probably keep telling you, it's got just about everything. I've never had an issue with mine, bought it secondhand in 1998.
At least the MX focus screen just goes straight in, no tools.

Kenzie
20-02-19, 09:25 PM
Yeah, very similar to the OM1 screens. I did offer up an OM one but it's just a tad too big.

Kenzie
22-02-19, 09:25 PM
Managed to score an untested MX. If it's unservicable I'll transfer over the focus screen and top plate.

johnnyrod
22-02-19, 09:35 PM
Cool!

Kenzie
22-02-19, 09:59 PM
No one interested in the Program A? Don't want anything for it, only bought the lot for the MX.

johnnyrod
22-02-19, 10:31 PM
You could put a new post in the Photos section, I'm not sure many people venture in here! I see I claimed the 6000th post without realising.
I wonder how hard it would be to put a mobile phone camera in an old camera body. Take the lens glass out and replace with a plain piece of glass, mount the phone camera behind it, pack all the other stuff away and connect it all up to the shutter etc. Trying to replicate the 35mm film plane seems too hard.

Kenzie
22-02-19, 10:36 PM
Too dangerous to venture in here! People come in looking to sell stuff and end up with a collecting condition!

Nice! A fully working MX is a lovely little camera.
Tempted by the glass mainly ....... https://www.gumtree.com/p/non-digital-cameras/minolta-srt100x-28mm/1330746836

Kenzie

The MX is a tiny little thing, hope I can make a working one out of both of these. I'd snap that SRT up, it's only £20! The sun is shining, excuse to get your bike out!

johnnyrod
23-02-19, 05:02 PM
Kenzie, the Super A doesn't have a case by any chance does it? Mine is delaminating badly.

Kenzie
23-02-19, 06:16 PM
No, unfortunately not. Only case I have is for an MV and it's coming apart like yours. I did pick up an Olympus OM10 with 50mm f1.8 for £4.50 from the re-use shop this afternoon. Couldn't day no! Shutter is a little bit iffy as it sometimes releases while winding. Lens is ok, had to strip the mount off and clean a load of oil off of the aperture mechanism. Tbh the lens will probably end up on my hybrid OM1. I was testing out the Pentax MG with the Centon 50mm and annoyingly after a few shots realised it won't focus to infinity. Looks like it's heading for the spares tub.

yokohama
23-02-19, 06:44 PM
Annoyingly, I missed out on the SRT. After telling me it was available, I drove over to pick it up only to find out it had sold. Seller had also advertised it online as well. A bit hacked off as I wasted half a day and on top of that, had to breathe the air in Redcar.
I've binned 2 Pentax cases because the coverings were sticky and had bits coming off. It must be the way they make them.

Kenzie
23-02-19, 07:02 PM
Taking the P there abit. Did you convey your annoyance?

yokohama
23-02-19, 07:39 PM
I did but what can you do?? If it's gone, it's gone.
More annoyed about the time wasted chasing it than the camera itself.

Kenzie
23-02-19, 07:52 PM
Ah well, another will come along. It is frustrating when you get messed around. Odd thing about the re-use shop was that they had a Practika BX up for £22 but only had £4.50 on the OM. Also got a Zenit B body for £4 too. They actually had a massive bucket of cameras and these two were the cream of the lot. There was a Zenit E in there as well but the shutter was broken.

yokohama
23-02-19, 08:06 PM
It's good that you've got the reuse shop; nothing like that up here. £4.50 is pretty good for an OM10 with the lens. Strange the way it's priced compared to the Praktica.

Kenzie
23-02-19, 08:12 PM
Shutter still isn't right on the OM10 so the lens is heading for the OM1. The first OM1 I bought seems to be only firing on one speed, not sure what's happening there. Need a lens for the XG-E and the X500 at some point.

Kenzie
24-02-19, 06:45 PM
Been a productive day with film today, finished off the roll in the Kiev 88, the Kiev 4 and the Perkeo. Got them wrapped up ready to be posted off to the developers. Normally I would do the black and white myself but my chemicals have been stored in the car port and I think they will need replacing. Need to unload the OM1 and check out the shutter. I did see a Trip 35 silver button at a flea market, but they wanted £25 for it. Polite pass.

yokohama
24-02-19, 07:25 PM
No film for me today but I did get out on the bike for the first time in 5 months.
I'm not sure I understand the pricing and demand for the Trip. Yes, it's a nice little camera but with the Ricoh 500g, Chinon 35EE or even Russian rangefinders costing similar money, surely it's no contest.

Cult following I think. Easy to use, decent lens with good results. I think the mju ii is way over hyped, amazing results but not the best to use. I need to run another roll through the 500G, been a couple of years since I used it last and I've put new seals in it since then. Next on my list to use is the FM, still sitting on the table in the living room. Did you hear that Lomography has started to shut its stores? Looks like they are moving to online only.

I like the 500G; small, fits in a pocket, easy to use. I've still got an unfinished B&W roll in mine from China in 2017. I should reseal the FM and have a go with it too. Never used a Nikon.
I saw the posts about Lomography but I also think some shops will still stock their stuff.

johnnyrod
24-02-19, 07:42 PM
To be honest I didn't look too closely, f1.4 is always a good thing and more or less in your neck of the woods, leave the decisions to you!

Will find out tomorrow on the Minolta.
Yep, the problem with having lots of cameras. They all need regular exercise.

Kenzie
25-02-19, 09:12 PM
Don't we all! I'm hoping my experiment of taping up the dark slide slot of the 88 film mag solves the light leak issue. If it does then I'll have to track down a seal kit, I don't think Aki Asahi sells them and I'm not sure if the Haasleblad kits fit. Stripped down and cleaned up the latest OM 50mm lens as the aperture was lagging still, it's not the blades themselves but the mechanism being oily.

yokohama
26-02-19, 08:33 PM
Well, this certainly makes up for losing out on the SRT, which only had a paltry 28mm wide angle. The 24mm on this is amazing.
I think that's me used up my luck for the rest of the year.

No, but there is someone online who makes custom bellows. www.custombellows.co.uk but the site is down at the mo. Got quoted £45 for Agfa Solinette iii 6x6 bellows.

More of an apprentice I think. For future reference, I managed to find an alternative capacitor source so looks like I'll have a bit of soldering to do shortly. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/4758719/?searchTerm=475-8719&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6 26572266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5 E285C647B362C377D5B4161426250705D297C285C647B337D5 B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D5B4161426250705D3 F292426706F3D3126736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5 F4E554D4245522677633D4E4F4E45267573743D3437352D383 73139267374613D3437353837313926

Kenzie
27-02-19, 07:41 PM
I might still have a couple of the ones I bought from Microtools if you need them? I had read somewhere that someone had successfully used some of the weird looking flat capacitors instead.

yokohama
27-02-19, 07:52 PM
It's OK; you might need yours sometime and I've got lots of Minoltas so I could do with some insurance myself. I think it's possible to use the flat tantalum ones as they are more durable and store a larger capacitance in a smaller size. Might be worth a try sometime.

Kenzie
27-02-19, 07:54 PM
That article was quite interesting. So they used cheaper caps to save money but then ended up killing the camera because caps failed. Seems like an idiotic choice.

yokohama
27-02-19, 08:07 PM
Idiotic yes but certainly not unique compared to any manufacturer these days. They all try to keep costs down by skimping on one ore more components. Look on the bright side; plenty of cheap, failed X300 & 500s to resuscitate.

Kenzie
27-02-19, 08:13 PM
True, got my first X700 due to dead caps. Thing is, it's not a case of if, but when they will fail.

Wow! I ordered those capacitors at 8pm last night. Delivered at 11.20 today.

Kenzie
28-02-19, 06:55 PM
Wow, that was quick! My MX finally arrived, if you buy anything from ebay and they use collect plus, be warned that its Yodel. They tried to deliver it to my work last night at 8.25pm. Anyway, the second MX was locked up but with a functional meter and a good focus screen. The first MX had a missing screen, dented top plate and the meter is dead. I can live without the meter so I transferred the screen and top plate and now have something I'm happy with. Just needs mirror bumper foam. Its a pretty compact little thing, much better than a K1000. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190228/4b4231084e7e156f785b9c9c771ff0df.jpg

Shame about the meter but at least you've fixed it up and have something you are happy to use. Any ideas on a possible fix?
Definitely agree it's much nicer in the hand and to the ear than a K1000.

And a cheap deal on prints at Boots if it's of any interest. https://www.bootsphoto.com/photo-gift/home

Kenzie
28-02-19, 07:33 PM
Not sure what the issue is at the moment, maybe dirty contacts but will have to dig further. Managed fo find my Aki Asahi ME Super seal kit so took a mirror buffer from there. I don't go for prints very often, more stuff to store. There is a queue for black and white at the processor so it's going to be 10 to 12 days turn around.

There's a possible fix here that might be worth a look and is easy to get to. http://no-exif.com/2011/07/24/pentax-mx-meter-fix

I'll try to do the capacitor fix on the X300 at the weekend, After reading that article, I want to open up all my Minoltas and see what kind of capacitor they are using.

Kenzie
28-02-19, 08:47 PM
Thanks Yoko, the meter is now functional! Just needed some tweaking. All that is missing is the motor drive coupling cover.

johnnyrod
28-02-19, 09:38 PM
They're lovely little cameras. I was going to suggest the same fix as it's a common problem with them. They're an odd size though so if you want a case it has to be for the MX, an ME super one or whatever won't be quite right. They're a devil to find though! I got one in the end but it is a bit beaten up.

Kenzie
28-02-19, 09:45 PM
Not overly fussed about a case. Only other thing apart from the missing md cover is the little plastic insert for the shutter release lock collar. Pinched the lens off my Program A.

yokohama
01-03-19, 06:32 PM
Glad you got the MX working again. Apart from the protection, you're not missing out on much with the case. One came with my MX but it's a bit tatty and with its kind of long, round snout, won't win any style contests.

Kenzie
01-03-19, 07:02 PM
Meter stopped working again. At least I know how to tweak it. Quite a bit of mirror slap though.

johnnyrod
01-03-19, 08:55 PM
Are you sure? It is on when the shutter button is half pressed. If the wind on lever is stood out then the half-pressed shutter will latch so the meter will stay on until either you take a picture or fold the wind lever back in.

Kenzie
01-03-19, 09:21 PM
Defo acting up.

johnnyrod
01-03-19, 09:47 PM
It's a Pentax so it'll be finicky about batteries! Also the foam under the prism cover turns to mush and can farrrk up the electronics for the meter.

Kenzie
02-03-19, 07:29 AM
It was the battery chamber cover. A little grotty so I've cleaned it up and it's working again.

yokohama
02-03-19, 01:37 PM
I switched the capacitor on the X300 this morning, put some batteries in, it fired twice and then died. I was worried for a minute but put fresh batteries in and now it's working perfectly. I never realised it's so particular about its voltage. I often wonder if silver oxides would be better but when Boyes sells 10 packs of Agfa LR44s for less than the price of one SR44, it hardly seems worth it.

After reading the capacitor article a couple of times I got inquisitive and opened up the Minoltas. It looks like longer lasting tantalums are in most of mine.

yokohama
02-03-19, 07:06 PM
No, I've never tried; always bought pre-cut ones.
Getting the overall dimensions with careful measuring wouldn't be so hard but curvature around the lens mount and self-timer and film holder cut outs would be more difficult.
Getting the old skin off intact and using that as a template or to make a template would be the best way to do it I guess.

Kenzie

The skin has shrunk so I'll need to do a paper template. At the cinema tonight to watch a 40th anniversary screening of Alien.

Re. the Zeiss, it's the 6x9 Mess Ikonta, and has a red T Tessar which are unusual. The 6x6 with a Novar go for about £30, the 6x9 with any lens go for quite a lot more, more like £100 I think. My 6x6 with a Novar lens has produced some great pictures.

Just picked up this bundle. Pentax MX with 40mm f2.8, Nikon F600 with Nikkor 50mm f1.8 and an OM1n with 50mm f1.8. There are a couple of point and shoot bridge cameras but I won't be keeping them. Might keep the OM1 as its better than a couple I have. Will move on the others. By others, I mean other OM1s. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190303/acb7785df37a9d82df4768149a56c9d9.jpg

That's a good bundle and a nice pancake on the end of the MX. How many OM1s is that now?

Er... Five. I'll probably sell two. Anyone interested? The 40mm is tiny! I've put the Nikon lens on to my other FM for now, but I may track down an FE.

A while ago I would have gone for this, especially with the adaptall. https://www.gumtree.com/p/non-digital-cameras/bundle-of-film-cameras/1331997596
Either the GAS is fading or I'm getting more selective.
There was an OM20 with a Zuiko 35-70 f4 in a local charity shop today but they wanted £40 for it. I passed

Well it's been a while but I can't keep my hands to myself for ever. Juts bagged this 192838957742
Not sure the Kodaks are worth much but might get some of my money back. The Zeiss goes for £15-25 and is pretty much their latest Box Tengor model.

Can't get the number to work. I doubt the GAS is fading, more like you are getting more selective. My local reuse shop has a bucket of various Practika models but they just don't do it for me. I've got higher end Olympus, Pentax and Minoltas and I've been spoiled! Yoko, I've got a Tamron 70-210 f4-5.6 58A with OK mount kicking around if you want it for your lens collection. Heading for charity shop otherwise.

If you want a no hassle easy to shoot camera that gives a truly vintage look then I highly recommend respooling a roll of film to 620 and shooting the old Kodak.

I've always had a soft spot for the old Prakticas. The LTL3 was my first 'serious' camera after a Zenit. Solid and loud but I liked the metal shutter and got used to the stop down metering and shutter release position. The lens it came with was OK too. Shame it got nicked but it paved the way for an OM2.
Thanks for the offer but I'll pass on the Tamron thanks as I've a couple of 103As to cover that range. It might be worth putting on ebay or Gumtree first to contribute towards something else.

If they are still up there I will take a look at the Practikas again. I know there is an MTL50 and an MTL3 but there are a couple of others. They are only like £4 each.

Pretty good for an old Russian camera. A nice clear image. Is it with the Jupiter 8?

I got good results with both Jupiter 8 and Sonnar 50mm f2 (basically the same) on my Kiev. Much more like a "modern" SLR lens than a Tessar.

I think I solved the light leak issue on the Kiev 88. Its coming in through the dark slide slot. Needs new light seals. Shot from the taped up 88.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190308/db7169a6ecc18a519363d9bd48dca657.jpg

Looks nice. My Box Tengor came yesterday, pretty good, I can put a film straight in it. Also came with a grubby Brownie and an old Instamatic 155 like my old mam used to have, nasty piece of junk but clean and working. The Tengor has a lot of features for a box camera (it's the last one Zeiss did) - cable release socket, flash sync, tripod socket, double exposure lock, three distance ranges (by adding in lenses inside) and three apertures from f9 to f22 (stops that swing into place). By allowing a wider aperture, the distance settings are necessary as the DoF is smaller. I think they're something like 6-20ft, 10-40 and 20-infinity, and not sure which aperture they refer to.

I wouldn't mind a Zeiss Box but they keep jumping out of my reach. But then again I've got quite a few box type cameras. I've got more film to scan as I had sent off the 88 and Perkeo films.

It performs well when it doesn't leak!

Voigtlander Perkeo:

Got an OM1 body listed, I would have included a lens but I haven't got on that hasn't got some sort of defect. I did find a Balda Baldina rangefinder at the re-use shop for a fiver. I checked the Prakticas and they had an LTL3 up there.

Cheers all. I might list one of the Canon Sureshot A1 cameras (I have three) as they seem to be selling well at the moment. Now if I only had the plates for mine!303055284591
