I guess i could contact the seller but he'd have to cancel my bids. Didn't think about it. Nice Ikoflex, not sure I'm a TLR man though.

Might be worth it if he will do a buy it now.
Did you hear back about the Me Super Yoko?

01-02-17, 06:58 PM
Nope. 2 emails sent about the ME Super but no reply.

I managed to get out and shoot some film today. I decided to take the Trip with me and a Minolta with the 35-70.
Learnt another lesson; check batteries before you go out! I took 4 batteries out with me just in case but couldn't get any combination of them to work in the camera so no Minolta. (I emptied all the camera batteries before I went to China and put them all in a film canister. Maybe all the metal to metal contact drained some of them)
At least I could use the Trip and managed to finish the whole roll.

Kenzie
01-02-17, 07:10 PM
At least you had film in your camera! Having them loose probably finished them off. That's what I really like about the Trip, ready to shoot and now power worries! I found out that cutting a 120 roll down to 127 gives me an off-cut that is perfect in size to reload my Minolta 16mm film cartridge. Means I can shoot my spy cameras!

yokohama
01-02-17, 07:44 PM
How are you cutting that? In the darkroom?

Kenzie
01-02-17, 07:54 PM
Changing bag. I use electrical tape wrapped around a few times after marking the 127 paper at the right height. I can the feel where I need to cut with the cigar cutter. I mark the 127 paper with a small bit of masking tape and feed the film in. Spool in up to the second tape mark and tape the film down and finish spooling. Bit of a faff but 127 is hard to get.

Neat trick that. Going well beyond the bounds of my knowledge and abilities.

Kenzie
01-02-17, 08:48 PM
Only beyond if you don't give it a go. I was scared of loading medium format until I watched a YouTube video. Same with developing my own black and white, read as much as I could and did it! I now find respooling 120 to 620 a piece of cake!
Shame about the ME Super though. I had the same thing happen with a couple on Gumtree as well.

yokohama
02-02-17, 09:27 AM
I've never used 120 or 127 yet. Maybe one day. I don't have the space to start collecting box cameras and TLRs so i'd better stick to 35mm for the moment. I used to develop and print B&W when I was at uni and had access to darkrooms though the details are lost in the passage of time. I can still remember putting a blank piece of paper in chemicals and watching the image slowly appear. Magic.

Cheap XA of some sort in Herts:
www.gumtree.com/p/video-camera-accessories/olympus-camera/1214109559

I had a similar worry about loading 120 the first time, as it's not in a canister I was paranoid about it slipping open and fogging out. The first one I shot was B&W, and whether it was the film or the size of the negatives, I was more than impressed by the detail, even at 8x8". The actual shooting is a slow process though, as almost nothing is automated (with the possible exception of having a coupled rangefinder, which most don't). Folders can be pretty compact though, as you would have seen with your Agfa, maybe like an SLR body with no lens when folded up. I struggle to compose with the square format of 6x6 for some reason, but there are 6x4.5 and 6x9, the latter are said to be good for landscapes as you have such a large negative that you can enlarge or crop for ever. All that said, I have a few rolls in the fridge, but when they run out I'm not sure how quick I'll be to get more.

Kenzie
02-02-17, 05:35 PM
Looks like it sold, can't see ad. Yoko, I'll send you a box brownie or ful vue or a 6x9 folder loaded with hp5 to try. Shoot it and send it back to me and I'll dev the film.

Kenzie, It could be dangerous. I hope this isn't going to fuel a new addiction.

Kenzie
02-02-17, 08:19 PM
Up to you. Its a chance to try without adding to your collection! These are about as basic as they get.

I will also extend this offer to anyone who wants to try one.

johnnyrod

The XA was only a tenner and included an A16 (better) flash so no great surprise!

Kenzie

If it was the XA rangefinder then someone got a mega deal.

Talking about Minoltas, I still haven't shot with the HiMatic yet.

yokohama

Nice little Minolta that one on ebay.
Which HiMatic model have you got Kenzie?

Kenzie
03-02-17, 07:06 PM
The original one. £10 from a charity shop (where else!)

Nice, and a bargain to boot. I hear they are good little rangefinders.

Kenzie

I think they also go under the name Ansco Autoset.
Modified version went to space!

03-02-17, 08:28 PM
Didn't know that at all - or the Minolta-Ansco connection. I think there's some crossover between the HiMatic and the Electro 35 too.

Kenzie
03-02-17, 08:32 PM
There are quite a few cds type cameras around that look the same. Voigtlander VF135, Fujica GER, Ricoh 500G etc.
Some interesting reading about Ansco, including a patent violation by Kodak.

I'll pass for now I think. Like your HiMatic, there are cameras I haven't put a film through yet and I'm slow. Another one would just join the queue. Bring one up to entice me if you decide to visit York.
I need to find an interesting bridge photo for this month's comp.

Kenzie
04-02-17, 04:17 PM
I think out of the hundred plus in my collection, I have only shot with about 30.
Have been doing some research on developing 16mm film. I have found that I need either a Yankee Clipper II or Paterson Universal 3 tank. The former Will be from the States and cost around £30.

yokohama
04-02-17, 09:12 PM
16mm? Is that from the hand crank video camera you have or from something else?

Kenzie
04-02-17, 09:18 PM
Something else. I have a couple of Minolta 16mm cameras and I want to use them. Only way is to roll and dev my own. But my tank only does 35mm as its smallest size. Have you had your Rocky order yet Yoko?

Kenzie
05-02-17, 03:41 PM
Did some surgery on an AGFA Optima. To be honest I was looking to tear it down for spares but once inside I found that the meter works but the aperture blades were stuck. Bit of lighter fluid has freed it off. Will keep exercising it to make sure it keeps opening as it should.

yokohama
05-02-17, 05:52 PM
Nothing from Rocky yet. I guess yours hasn't arrived either.
I tidied up the FX-D this afternoon and changed a couple of light seals. The skylight kept falling off the lens you gave me - the plastic threads were worn and not seating securely on the end of the lens. I cut some thin strips of plumbers tape, stuck that on the lens filter threads and the skylight screws on perfectly now.
Need to film test it now.

Kenzie
05-02-17, 06:17 PM
No, still waiting. Will give him until Wednesday and pop him over an email. I did find while rummaging in my crates if many cameras a Yashica 50mm f1.9 DSB lens if you are interested? Its not multi-coated like the ML but is in one piece. Not shot with it yet. Picked it up while hunting for a 50mm ML to replace the one I sent you.

yokohama
05-02-17, 07:48 PM
Don't worry about another lens Kenzie. The 50mm you sent me is fine; it's got character. The glass is clear and it works; skylight screws on and stays on now. The plan is to put a Poundland test roll through it.

Kenzie
05-02-17, 09:05 PM
Character, I guess that is one way of putting it. Going to use Fomapan 100 to cut down to fit the Minolta 16, will have to wait unti l have some 127 backing paper.

Managed to score a Paterson Universal 3 tank from the UK for £12.99 inc postage. Just need some film now to cut down.

AAARGH well I won the focus screen but in the last 10 mins I decided to look around to see if I was sure it was the right one. The answer is no, it's too big, but I won it anyway. Hm will have to identify it and sell it on. While looking around though, I found the right one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Certo-3-Film-Plate-Holders-Focussing-screen-for-Antique-Folding-Camera-/252757021449

johnnyrod
06-02-17, 10:00 PM
They're up later in the week. That one includes the 6x4.5 mask so I do want it. Will end up with loads of plates if I get both, but can sell some on.

Kenzie
06-02-17, 10:04 PM
Ah, so you want to make it a half frame then. Will you use the plates or are you just after the masks?

johnnyrod
06-02-17, 10:20 PM
Doubt I'll use the plates, it's more for completeness, I do want to try 645 so it's a good opportunity. Also not to waste a chance, these bits hardly ever come up, so it's even more surprising to find two. I do a search for "certo" from time to time, worldwide.

Some from the Olympus Trip at the Mining Museum and Sculpture Park. Some are a bit dark but I think that's a combination of the weather and the tones on the Poundland film

What are you scanning with? It looks like they have a textured background. Nice shots by the way!

yokohama
08-02-17, 07:52 PM
I noticed that textured look too. It's even more apparent on some of the other shots. I've no idea what it is. They were scanned to disc at Spielman's . My last lot weren't like that.

Is there any issues with the negs? If not I would probably ask them to rescan. If not post them down and I'll scan them for you. I'll pass on the lens as I have the Sigma 28mm mini wide you sent down.
Just been flicking through gumtree and there is an x300 round the corner for £35 with f1.7. I do think film camera prices are starting to climb.

Ta for the Wex thing, I have no sensible PP software, not that I really do any. Yoko the first two look underexposed, I would guess the sky light has foxed the sensor. The others have less contrast. I can see some scratches too - my last Poundland film was scratched by Max Spielmann - but the canvassy texture is a bit odd, can you see it on the negs?

Kenzie
08-02-17, 08:55 PM
I mostly use it for cropping and straightening horizons. I have version 8 but couldn't pass up a freebie.

Sent from my Xperia

yokohama
09-02-17, 07:45 PM
I downloaded DX0 too. I haven't got any editing software so it might come in useful.

I can't see the strange texture on the negs and I don't know what it is. I'm not so bothered as it was only a test roll in the Trip. Actually Johnny, you're right about the underexposures, I just remembered. The lens caps on both Trips I had were loose so I put some tape on the inside of the rims to stop them falling off. It worked, they fit snugly now but on the Trip, the ASA dial is on the end of the lens so twist the lens cap off and the ASA settings can change. In this case, it switched to 400 for a 200 ASA film. Something I need to keep an eye on next time.

johnnyrod
09-02-17, 08:41 PM
That certainly wouldn't help but I'd say it's more than a stop of underexposure. I'm always wary of auto exposure for things like this, maybe paranoid is a better term!

Won the set of plates and 645 mask for my Certo, the other plates with the focus screen come up next week.

Kenzie

johnnyrod
11-02-17, 09:42 PM
A pertinent question, alas with no relation to photography. Final look at stone counters for our new kitchen, stools for this, mattress for my dad, also some furniture, finally home, but all rounded off with a terrifyingly hot curry and for added roulette points I pounded a few liquorice allsorts afterwards.

Right, I have the battered Bessa in a condition where I can use it. Only thing missing is the red window. Any suggestions?

No ideas on that one, I'm afraid. What is the red window?

Kenzie
12-02-17, 11:38 AM
Sorry, forgot you haven't done medium format yet. On older cameras you have to look through a small red window to wind the film to the next number. Not like these spangly new cameras where the advance auto stops at the next frame. Without the window I could fog the film if I open the window cover.

yokohama
12-02-17, 12:43 PM
Ah, I got it. I can remember winding films on by number when I was a kid.
Is the window missing on the Bessa?

Raining again. Sad that I am, I'll pass the next couple of hours pickling vegetables.

Kenzie
12-02-17, 01:03 PM
Yeah, annoyingly. I have changed over the bellows but this is the last bit. It doesn't have any leather and looks bad but I wanted to see if I could revive it. Pickling veg is probably safer than surfing eBay/Gumtree though.

Read somewhere about suitable materials for a red window, really anything red will do, piece of Lego?

Kenzie
12-02-17, 01:34 PM
No, I need to be able to see through it. Was thinking of the red sweet wrapping, or maybe rob one off an old camera. Being drawn to trying Instax cameras. Its cheaper than Polaroid/Impossible but damn the cameras are ugly!

Guilt? For me I bagged the set of plates for the Certo that has the 645 mask, the other set inc. the focusing screen is up tonight. I'm off again to Madrid next week for one last time (I certainly hope so), but I don't think there is time for much loafing around. Weather has picked up there though, 16 and dry.

Kenzie

I love Madrid but it never encourages sobriety in me.
I'll give the case a miss Kenzie. I tend to hang the cameras round my neck or put them in a big pocket.... in the old days, I used Bren gun pouches. Succumbed today to the temptation of a Zorki 4....

Kenzie
12-02-17, 09:21 PM
Rule number one of Zorki ownership... Always co-ck the shutter before changing the film speed or you will kill it. Did you get a 4 or a 4k? Only shot one roll with my 4:

I got a 4 with the Jupiter 8.
Is that changing film speed or shutter speed?

Kenzie
12-02-17, 09:28 PM
Shutter speed. This applies to any camera when the film speed dial moves with the film advance. Go to Butkus and download a manual and read before trying to use. Also, the take up spool on the 4 isn't fixed, so when you take the back off it can drop out.
Was it a black or silver Jupiter?

yokohama
12-02-17, 09:30 PM
I think it's a black Jupiter.
I'm impressed with the image quality on your pics.

Kenzie
12-02-17, 09:39 PM

I'm selling an overrated milk frother that came with a coffee machine. That will pay for the Zorki ~ in my mind anyway.
How did you meter? Sunny 16, hand held or another camera?

Kenzie
12-02-17, 09:57 PM
Sunny 16 I think. I tend to use the light meter app now for most things. Have you got it already?

yokohama
13-02-17, 07:55 AM
Haven't got either the camera or the app.
Zorki should arrive later in the week so there's that and the Rocky stuff to come.

Well the Certo plates and mask arrived, and while the plates do fit (plate holders, all empty), the mask is too small by maybe a centimetre in height. Maybe it's meant for a 116 or 127 or whatever camera. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Kenzie does yours have a removable back for plates? Forgotten how many of these you have.

Note in the latter he uses an LED as the light source, I just use a spot lamp. It works fine for leaf shutters, for curtain shutters there is too much light coming at to the phototransistor at an angle, so using a laser (e.g. spirit level, pointer etc.) circumvents that problem. I use a single AAA battery, because the AA holder from Maplin is actually too tight a fit for a real AA. I would have to get it out to check the values of the capacitor and resistor, they don't need to be exactly right. I tried to use the headphone plug from a cheap pair of ear buds but the "wire" inside is a single strand and some string so it doesn't snap! Had to chop up a patch lead instead - may as well have bought a jack plug from Maplin after all.

possibly a touch low but should be fine. Bit of Veroboard, didn't bother with a box.

Only one Certo and it is a fixed back. Thanks for posting that up. Will take a look at making one. Just seen an ME Super on Gumtree, but its 50 miles away. Have emailed them to see if they would hold it until the weekend.

Interesting articles those. I had a leisurely read over coffee.
I couldn't access the app in the meter link you posted Kenzie but i found another one called 'Exposure' in the Windows store so I'll give that a try.

Tracking number was no use as you can't track anything. Just shows that it had been posted. Will keep an eye out for his next sale. Just need an AD2 Pentax mount now!

It looks nice on the Nikon. Rocky's sale prices are good, even better if the goods aren't as bad as some reviews suggest.

It needs a wipe down on the rubber grips but other than that its fine. I have read loads of reviews, good and bad, but this is my second order from him and both have been fine.
