Very nice Mister_C! Looks like you've still got it :D
Here's some I've been catching up on, Tuesday:
Cliche shot but I wanted to try my own
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7427/10861088716_03ab442ac2_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/10861088716/)
Rememberance (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/10861088716/) by Brettus - Brettnet.co.uk (http://www.flickr.com/people/brettnet/), on Flickr
I did say here are SOME shots,
Here is my second favourite Poppy shot, looked like one of the shots used on a local council monthly magazine.
I was kind of hoping for even more focus separation between the adorned gates and the church (it is intentionally out of focus) but given that it isn't much I should've stopped down and kept the sharpness throughout in retrospect.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7297/10861453096_b4dc04f924_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/97383585@N06/10861453096/)

and a shot I liked that shows off my wide angle:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7416/10861604054_dd27fda287_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/97383585@N06/10861604054/)

I think I'm going to get more use out of this than my zoom but I don't regret the zoom.
I envy Richie's shots though, very nice work :smt038
oh and BP, I still want to try and take a shot like that one, always makes me jealous. I've got an app now for pointing me in the right direction of polaris so I'll give it a go sometime.
Richie, try using ISO 100, 20-30 second exposure and turn noise reduction off if it is on, also set the drive to continuous shooting and you can shoot full res and will get a much smoother image when stacked.
Oh and just a quick update, we have less than 50 days to go and we've done the entire year! (and 40 days till Christmas!)
Cheers for the info Bret will try the next clear skys we have :)

Well I don't know what happened to the photo, but I stopped off to say hello to an old friend of the Org, sorry I didn't leave him a beer or a cardboard box with a happy face on it :(
First time I'd been that way since going to his funeral. Still make me sad :(

I love that - really snaps the moment and makes it very real.
Now is it technically still a cygnet as it has a few brown feathers left??
Well there were three or four of them with adult swans so not sure really. Doesn't have an orange beak either though.

It'll get that when its a bit older, its still a juvenile.

Luke... I AM YOUR FATHER... now get out in that garden with the lightsabre, I don't care if it's 3 degrees, I need a picture! :)
Really nice shot! love the energy in the red but also that the blue shows the person, really nice balance.
The Sith lord is Jake (red) and the Jedi is Holly (blue)
They were messing about before I got the camera out.... But need them to do more of these shots :)

Never seen Star Wars (or any of it's other films) but, that pic is really smart Richie. i love the way the light works & the sillohette of Holly, just brilliant :)
Here's mine for today. I actually went for a walk around the grounds in Crewe Hall yesterday, never been there before & it's only about a mile from where I live. It's that posh, they even wrap their trees up for the winter :p

WHAT?!? That's like saying you've never heard Dylan! Understandably I guess it just doesn't appeal to some people but it is still pretty pivotal to modern culture, so much so that your knowing what it is despite not seeing it proves the point.
Anyway, sorry wasn't ranting honest ;-)
That is a corking picture, really drawing you in. The focus works SO well. Nice shot, another WITT shot.

Was a dark grey miserable day, none the less had planned to get out on the bike,
but instead found our dog (of 13 years) lying beside the road this morning where she was apparently hit by a car sometime yesterday.
(she was not home for supper last night)
She was still alive but suffering badly so being Sunday, we had to make the hour trip to the city to have her put to sleep.
The people there were very nice and they gave her some pain meds via iv and let us spend a little time with her before the inevitable.
We brought her back home and buried her in one of her favorite spots in the garden.
RIP Molly.

Thanks all.
We were lucky to have her 13 years.
She was the best dog we ever owned. She always had the same friendly puppy dog demeanor,
her personality never changed from a the time she was a wee pup. Always affectionate, always wanted to be with you.
When she barked, you knew you it was time to see what was going on outside.
She never got in trouble although she did, on occasion, like to chase the cats.
But she never caught one! I think she just had to show them who was boss over the garden
from time to time. LOL
Whether I was working on the motorcycle, washing the cars or working in the garden, or just out for a walk,
she was my constant companion till I finished and then she was off to play, and she was like that with the whole family. (although the kids have grown up and gone now)
A more loyal or loving dog there has never been.
She will be missed and remembered for many years.

So sad when you lose a friend like that. Although another dog can can never take their place there are so many lovely dogs (and cats) in need of homes at the rescue centres that I hope you might be able to offer another dog the chance of a happier life in due course.
Here are mine for today. We feature a recipe in The Cricketer magazine each month prepared by our chefs and I take the pics.

For the record I'm an IT Manager for a 100 employee company. It just happens that I'm based in the accounts office and we have a good laugh at work.
Anyway, I tried to be a bit more serious with my picture taking again. I got some time to myself finally so went out for sunrise (hardly staggering, it isn't till almost 8am now!) but had thought of this shot last night.

Thanks Col, Nice shot yourself, I'd got a lot more gear but the shot isn't much different :) Can't resist frosty webs, they look so cool.
I'd had another idea tonight but I don't think I can pull it off, star trails behind the snugburys dalek. I'd spotted where I'd need to be for polaris to be in the shot but the statue moves and is lit up so it'd overpower the shot unfortunately and I don't want to composite(fake) it. Shame really but ah well, there will be other subjects.

Aww thanks guys, good to know it was worth getting up. Thanks Chris, I'd got confused, I took some others that didn't work properly, these two had faults but were enough. The cow one isn't sharp on the cow, there is a blurring/ghosting. Looks like I'd left the stabiliser turned off in my lens and the spiders web. Could've done with a better background or some extra interest but none was to be had. The ones that really didn't work were a shot of a grand house silhouetted in the morning mist (sounds and looked great but the mist just made it all look undefined :-() also tried some panoramics and a landscape shot but the light wasn't right for that. Behind every decent image there are usually 10-15 that didn't make the cut.
Richie, really like the variation of your shots, nice choice on the muted colours in the autumnal waterfall, they show through enough but don't steal the show. You've got some cracking scenery up there, making hills appear steep isn't trivial and that street shot does it well!

Anyone who has (or had) a black Lab will know this well - at this time of year they moult. And it come out by the handful. Quite why they do it just as it gets cold is beyond me as you'd have thought they'd want to keep all that insulation. Their undercoat is really fine and it clogs the vacuum cleaner dreadfully so lots of brushing is needed. This is half of the large pile I got out of Jackie this morning - the rest of it is scattered in the hedge thanks to the breeze.

I HATE yellow lights with a passion, I'd be forced to desaturate the yellow on the first picture to try and restore some naturalness (in my own head) to the image. Really like the shot though, I love the reflections.
Did you alter the white balance to get the colours more natural on the second one or were the lights not that overpowering at the time?
Sir_Trev, I'm sure the birds will be very grateful of a little Black Lab plushness to their nests :) I've never understood why dogs lose their best fur in the run up to winter either.
second one was desatured the lower half - I agree with the yellow sodium light too :(
I'll have a play after I finish this night shift I've just started =0/
and one last one of my son Jake.

Off topic Sir Trev but have you tried a Furminator brush. Debs swears by it for Lewis Guide Dog and on her recommendation I bought one to use on the cats. Amazing! Got enough fur to make Mr LPH a toupee after brushing both moggies.

Love the shots Richie. I particularly like castles, I'm still a kid like that, wanting to be a warlord. I agree the effect on the last one is my favorite, it almost hyper accents the shadows. Everything is super crisp and it makes it look like some Bavarian Duke's lair.
Not sure if this was a question Sir Trev, but cats a dogs (and I assume other animals too) have a summer and winter coat. Your lab is just shedding the summer coat. The hair's are different, not just volume of hair. How they are different I couldn't tell you.

Ooh nice Richie, given me an idea for a thread... Won't derail this one any further. Liking the simpler palette.

Managed to get out for a cycle in the crisp sunny air today.
Nothing great picture wise, just local landmarks or scenes which looked nice in the sun.

Must visit Durham one day - the castle, bridges and cathedral look fantastic. Keep making us jealous Richie!
The Furminator looks like a very fine tooth version of the undercoat rake I use (on the right on my pic). I'll look one out and give it a try :). We had a Goldie as our previous dog and always left the groomed out fur in the garden in Spring. All of the nests I found later in the year were always lined in it which always made me smile. Bit more difficult to tell with Jackie's dark grey undercoat.

i'd love to be able to find the inspiration that some of you do, you get such good pictures of things i'd never even think about

One for today, found myself in Chester again after dark so thought I'd try out my wide angle.
Decided to up the ISO and just do some quick hand held shooting, I'd got my tripod on my back but wanted to be agile and back home pretty quick so opted for that and it worked surprisingly well. I particularly liked this shot:
Reading Light

I thought the guy was reading at first but it later seemed he was just getting drunk/stoned but that didn't make as eloquent of a title :laughat: plus he still looks like he could be reading, I think ;)
Granty, that is kind of the point of the thread too, to show others what can make an interesting picture. It gets us all thinking more :) No matter what anyone says about needing "the eye" it's rubbish, it is just practise, you learn to spot things more readily with practise. Same reason you spot LOADS of a car you have just been researching for your next purchase, you just become more aware of them.

 am I missing something? isn't that a photo of cloud cover at sunset? I can't see a bright object? Hoping the comet does do what the 1965 one did and light up like a flare but I suspect even if it did we'd have 30 days of uninterrupted cloud cover in the UK :(

I couldn't either to start with, then I looked at the great swathe of orangey yellow across the middle of the picture below the cloud and realised what mav was on about.

Camera doesn't have to be fancy to take a good picture :) Fancier camera just makes getting a decent picture easier (a more common occurrence, rather than less effort)
Bill, that fire looks very inviting! Wish I'd lit ours now last night when my stepson and I were trying the whiskys I'd bought. (quite a pleasurable evening!)

OK I know this is a little bit early (technically late as I went out at 21:20 to get a picture and I got home 10 minutes ago....) I umm, got distracted heh.
Spent ages driving round in miserable weather and just as I was heading to the coast and home it cleared up enough for a few shots.
This was my favourite, Milky Way Over Talacre Lighthouse
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3789/11126339973_46d526f01b_h.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/11126339973)
still had some clouds in the way but the moon was going to rise shortly so had to get something from the night.
Other ones:

I tried painting the lighthouse to make it stand out but a little too effective:

Brett, you are officially mad :p. But the pictures are brilliant. They always say that the early bird gets the worm :)
Here's mine, taken off my phone. A couple of scaffold towers I erected for a customer. I was only supposed to deliver to site, but he asked if I would give him a hand, so couldn't say no.

mine for this morning... After a 8 hour night shift what better way to wake yourself up than a brisk walk along the North Sea coast at 07:15 in the morning....
