Bet that was fun, although my machines have a bit more horsepower
It was. Not particularly fast machines, but plenty of slides and spins.

Been to 3 sisters today with my son, he was racing, but I was armed with my camera. Got to have a play with a Canon EF 100 - 400mm lens...... 1 word...Wow! I love the clarity of the pictures, but it'll be something I'll never own as I can always find something else to spend £1100 on.

Saying that, I didn't get too many bad shots with my own cheapo 75 - 300mm lens

This little chap is no more than an inch long! Surprised he/she didn't leg it, I was right up in his little face. 100mm, 1:1, f/11
I love this Pentax-FA 100mm f/2.8 macro, and although it doubles as a great portrait lens I just don't get to use it enough. Still in the garden, with the sun peeking out the whole place is full of small, amazing things :)
I'll see your Eagle in the Zoo and raise you an Eagle in the wild! :@)

Brett, love the star trails! I've tried similar shots, but only once. I bought trigger trap, a mobile app and connector that allows you to set up the camera and push "Go". It'll the take as many photos at whatever exposure you set. In theory, you can ask for 500 pics of 30 seconds exposure with a 0.1 second interval. The app does many, many more cool things too.
My effort is the transmitter on Winter Hill with Polaris directly behind.

Thanks BP, I'm boring everyone with it now unfortunately as its made my Flickr baseline stats (30-70 views per day with a recent peak of 158 when I uploaded the zoo pictures) look insignificant. The first day I posted here, reddit and tweeted and got a few retweets from friends (I openly admit I tried tweeting some more "famous" people in hopes of a big RT but none obliged me) and I was amazed when by tea time I'd hit 250 views, even more when I'd hit 450 by bed time! Thinking that was my peak (which I hasten to add I was very happy with, I took the picture for me but it is nice to have others appreciate them) but yesterday I woke up, I'd had 600 views in the end the day before, but today I'd already had 250! By mid morning I'd surpassed yesterday, I had 1000 hits in the day, then later 2000 and off to bed at 2800 hits I thought I just might hit 3000 but I got 3800! Over 5000 people have now seen my picture and I'm stunned :-) (I know how bragging this sounds but I don't mean it that way I'm just shocked that its taken off naturally.
Anyway, sorry enough of that, I've got a camera app too, trigger happy. Got it a few months ago and thought it was genius but I haven't really leveraged a benefit from it yet. The recent one was taken in the simplest way I could think, 30 second shot length, multiple shot drive mode and just use my simple remote trigger locked down.
I took the star trails as I was just there early thanks to a panic and misreading the time so I just let it run thinking I can use them if I want, I can't use them if I don't shoot them. Assembled the image with just the 4 featuring the ISS and had some small trails that were unavoidable so decided to see what all 54 pictures would look like.
F4 IIRC, 30 seconds, ISO200 20mm apparently, must've nudged the zoom ring a little when packing up and setting up again somehow. I had to do more photoshop than I was comfortable with as the dish moves quite a lot over 30 minutes so had to select a layer to promote but then there was a lot of red light bleed where the light had been in different positions so I've cloned a lot of it out but not as tidy as it deserves. I also had to clone in the ISS trail as the camera has a small gap between exposures, fine for stars but the ISS moves pretty quick. I hate using tools like that but the dish HAD to be done, the ISS I didn't like doing but decided I'd have taken a single longer exposure when it flew through otherwise so I COULD have done it in camera so I didn't feel so bad at replicating it.
I thought this morning, if my first go, the really unfocused and far off one had been in forces I'd likely have quit at that, maybe that is why I'm so chuffed with myself and the effort I put in as I'm usually easily pleased, I'll have a go and accept that whatever I get is likely to be my best but this was refined thanks to circumstances and lack of experience.
Anyway, sorry for giving myself a big head. I'd seen your winter hill shot before and loved it BP, I really need to head up there sometime. I also need to practise finding Polaris (or use an app but it isn't hard, I'm just not used to it yet) but I'm done with star trails and night stuff for a while now :-) looking forward to seeing what you end up with Richie, when you apply yourself to a subject you usually make me jealous so have at it :-)
Bret where on Flickr does it tell you your hits on the photos?

you got IOS7?!
Yup Yup, I'm usually game for testing the latest betas through any means (previously mainly jailbreak) but this time I'm listed on a dev account so it means less data loss and frustration :)
Am doing a bit of a write up of it if anyone is interested, often it seems there is too much apple bashing on here for anyone to be interested though.
forgot to say, cracking picture SVMonkey, were you the photographer or the rider? (not that it matters in the scheme of this I'm just curious)

Mine for today. On the right in the white t-shirt is my small person who was a "reserve runner" for her school at the local Gala Races. One of the relay team hadn't turned up so Small Person stepped up and took part in the 400m relay against girls at least 2 years older than her. Her school team didn't win the relay (crappy static change overs, I shall inform the coach!), but she led for the best part of her 100m sprint. So proud of her tonight.

Just as an aside, this thread is proving to be really good fun, some excellent skills showcased, the chronicle of daily org life and some good banter and skills exchange going on too :)
Seeing as we are doing pens,
me PEN IS cool too :) (sorry my inner 8 year old couldn't resist)

Wondered if you'd notice that Richie :-) it's for when meetings get dire, "Hand me that drawing pin and stand back!.."
It's a proper product from fisher space pens, their pen happens to fit the shell perfectly so they sell them, shined a torch in there and it has a plastic part to receive the pen so all is well :-) I get some great looks when using it though
Ps nice shot for today!

Mavi, I dont think that counts, think it has to be a picture taken that day.
Here are mine, taken tonight. Grangemouth Childrens Gala here tomorrow and as part of the tradition all the kids who are part of the retinue decorate their houses:

http://i902.photobucket.com/albums/ac229/fenjer3/2013/DSC_0104_zps5d96341d.jpg
The amount of work that goes into these is incredible and it's all done in a fairly short time span. (The retinue are usually decided around about January.)
The "arches" as we call them usually get finished/assembled on Friday (today) and then come down again on the Sunday.
Some of them in the past have included Elvis's Graceland, the "real" Disney castle and Buckingham Palace.

True, although I set the rules, I can bend them a little ;)
I like the Spider man one, like you say there's been a great deal of work done on these.
True! lol
Yeah, there are some amazing displays. There was a lego batman one too, it was pretty epic.
Oh and someone has turned their house into a giant Xbox and all the neighbours gardens have Xbox Games in them.

I bet he's got a loud hailer, so although I wish I was at the AR, I'm glad I'm not

No sign of a loudhailer, but there were some suspicious looking potential joyriders about.
