I was forced to take a somewhat lengthy detour through the countryside today due to a bridge being out.
Took this pic along the way.

Haven't really been anywhere this weekend, work on Saturday & CBA on Sunday, but did nip out to find a Geocache Saturday evening & heard these little guys in a tree. It's off my mobile, so the quality is a wee bit garbage.

Ok three from tonights walk to the beach. Light was very poor, but plenty of subject matter
This little deer (see what I did there) is not what we usually expect to see round here in the early evening. Wasn't spooked by us either.

Doesn't show very well but I was seeing how concave I could make that part. Think I'll have a go at a mushroom sometime but I've just finished rounding off a bowl blank to play with next time.

Had a Vespa in the shop today.
Cleaned the carb (jets),new battery, spark plug.
Got it running again, no problem, so decided to take it for a spin.
You see these things in old european films, zipping around Paris and such.
Looks a wee bit sporty. Should be fun right?
What an utter piece of ****.
It's got the turning radius of a bus!
And feels as if you're 4 ft. off the deck. Very tall and very top heavy.
Any attempts to turn in sharper or lean over makes the front wheel want to tuck in.
A wee bit sporty?? No, not even a wee bit.
To be an icon in the scooter world, I found it very dissapointing.
(granted I have very little scooter experiance)

If you want to do something useful, get the engineers to design some grills that cover those ferkin great holes in the front of the Juke, nicely sitting beind those holes is an expensive air con radiator!
Might be alright for a townie, but in rural britain there is an abundance of wildlife that will eventually find their way in there! :smt073
it's called a condenser not a radiator ;)
But I'll put forward your suggestion to the rest of the team tomorrow.

Yikes, we definitely don't need one for today but Here is mine anyway, decided to mess about on the lathe again being such a nice day and these two were the result.

4th go on the lathe today yielded these two :-) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/97383585@N06/9230845969/) by iBrettnet (http://www.flickr.com/people/97383585@N06/), on Flickr
The spiral shots are torch on a string as Richie says, I used fishing line and a maglite solitaire (single AAA size) the first night was running out of steam pretty quick but I liked the result, I decided to weight the torch down to close to the breaking strain of the light (1.5lb in this case) with 6 AA batteries to extend the swing time (or at least extend the interesting part)
http://bulbphotography.com/pendulum/_images/starting.gif
I'd seen the technique in a magazine (and I think it has been done earlier on in this thread by someone?) and I wanted to have a go myself.
I've found a decent website explaining it (where I got the above picture from)
http://bulbphotography.com/pendulum/getting-started.php
I've done a recoloured one (and tried lots more) but I think the original colour looks best in the end.
The first night I tried it I wasted ages getting software on the Laptop to enable live view over USB so I could see what the camera was pointing at and get the focus spot on for the torch.... then the next day saw mention in the article that you should just hold the camera at the height of the torch and focus on the ground DOH!!! :laughat: But that was a learning point :)
Banannaman: Love that shot, because of the depth of field it isn't readily apparent just how big that candle is, looks like it could be monumental size! I initially thought it was something akin to a water tower that had a flame atop it, kinda like the oil refineries have to burn off excess.
Richie: very nice action shots, I love the Scrat toy in the grille :)

Oh dear, I've gone and taken some more, was chasing the sunset this evening and got two shots I quite like:

HDR's Brett? Look nice
Thanks guys, I feel like I'm getting to grips with the camera now!
Brett: Love the pic with the headstones in it, really lovely soft colours - Oh and be careful with that lathe, my dad has one and we have more mushrooms, apples, pears and wooden bowls than we know what to do with!!

Thanks guys, glad you liked the cemetery picture. Makes me feel a bit better about seeing the time and dashing to the car and driving off around random roads trying to find something to make use of the lens with (I've borrowed a 10-24mm Sigma)
Wasn't HDR in the end (at least not in the sense of merging exposures) I tried that and they all came out looking rubbish :( so I just turned down the highlights, upped the shadows a little and added a dash of vibrance and I've got the kind of result I actually wanted from a HDR.
Fenjer, think you might be right re the lathe :) it's relaxing to do and you get something as a product too.

This is actually mine from Saturday but I left my card reader in the office so only managed to open it today. I was in a pub in Boxford, near Sudbury, Suffolk on Saturday night enjoying their 'Americana' themed evening - BBQ and bands and beer etc. Then Sunday's main lunch ingredient arrived - a hog roast!

P.S. Richie you need some of these for your GS

Here's mine, not really a photo but a picture of the "mileage" of my 450d. It seemed appropriate as it's successor is due to arrive tomorrow. (fingers crossed as I'm flying out to Belgium again in the evening!)

Well done there LPH.
You can just see the look of enjoyment on his face.
Ah, to be a child again, eh?
Mine for today.
Street scene, but not pic of the month street scene.
Road work due to be finished 1 June, and then again by 9 July.
I have a feeling this street will not be open tomorrow.
Especially since no one was working on it today!
A town run by fools.

Er, wouldn't that be something like having Pikey Night at a bar in the US?
Yee haw!!! I hope they did this right!
Did everyone have to act ignorant and talk loudly??
Were several patrons thrown out of the pub before closing?
And please, you need to call the Police to break up at least one fight in the car park.
;)
The above wink means I'm joking with LPH,
not that I'm implying the above statements are in any way not typical of an American bar.

Oh no, don't break the illusion perpetuated by every film ever Bill :)
Glad to see it isn't just us Brits that get portrayed as the same everywhere, I swear people think Britain has ONE accent!

Well for a start that place wasn't packed with wall to wall morbidly obese people, and most of us had a burger OR curry OR ribs OR hotdog - not all of those with a side of double fries with macaroni cheese and then 3 puddings.
There is a deli up in St John's Wood High Street and if you get your timing wrong you get caught up with the college brats from the American School ordering their lunches. Are they not capable of forming even once sentence where the word 'like' does not get uttered every other word. 'Oh and then I'm like and then he's like and then they were like and it was oooooomiiiiiiiigaaaaaaaaddddddddd. I've actually stopped going there as I was starting to sympathize with those crazy types who take guns into colleges in the USA and shoot teenagers.

Chill axe, I said, look here some two police men, Ask them if I'm doing anything illegal... she didn't.. So I called them back and asked on her behalf... She walked away.. Strange some folk.
Nice Camera Bret :) looking forward to seeing more of your Fantabulas photos ;)
