Thanks guys, I definitely believe the saying the harder you work the luckier you get in photography.
And Mav, you don't know the half of it! I'd gone to just South of Denbigh as the light pollution is practically zero up on the moors and I'd google mapped some locations there that might provide good shots. It wasn't to be though, despite checking 2-3 places (or near by at least, I've never been to these places in the light so it'd have been a challenge to find in the dark anyway) the cloud cover was pretty constant. I'd had clear patches en route, enough to give me hope at least.
Ended up heading back but just after Denbigh it was clear and I got a basic sky shot as there was no foreground subject. A55 bound to head home and remembered about the Duke of Lancaster and Talacre Lighthouse, ended up walking out to the lighthouse in the pitch black from further away as the car park was closed, kept creeping myself out being alone on the beach or the beach car park in the dark with so much wind and noises from all around :smt120 shots turned out nice though despite me being convinced that most were ruined due to the wind, I was holding the tripod down as even on the lowest setting the wind was still going to rock it over!
had to pass the Duke to get home so decided to stop and try it, the light pollution looked worse but I thought it could be a really nice shot and I'd got my new lens I wanted to try. The footpath said closed but there was a large gap to one side so I thought, it's 1:10 in the morning, who is going to know? I'm not going to walk anywhere that looks dodgy or unstable and I'd been down there before. I passed another path closed sign but this too had enough space to allow access. I skirted the fence around the ship and saw a reflective jacket coming my way :smt088 The guy was obviously a little weirded out by a random person approaching with a torch at this time of night and asked if I'd been here about 20 minutes ago, I said no, I'd been at the light house and asked if I could take some pictures... :-dd he was hesitant so I decided not to push my luck and just head back as I'd got the lighthouse shots I headed back to the road and remembered there is another path down the other side of the stream to the sea and that didn't have any closed signs.... given that I'd be the other side of an outlet and I knew I could get a picture from there I'd give it a go. Moments after getting there I saw a familiar high vis jacket and heard the same voice. I apologetically said yes it was me again and confirmed this side was still open, he said "if you want to take some pictures you can come back around this side but keep to the path and tell me if you see anyone else around" "cool, I will do, I'll just get a shot from here and be round, thanks" :smt035 so I got to go back round there and got the shots from there which was a good thing as it was better for filling the frame, the sky was polluted but it looked interesting at least. I tried to see if the guy was still around to thank him for being a nice guy and tell him I was going but I couldn't see him, must've gone back to his portacabin or something.
Last time I was there the ship didn't have the grafitti on it, I'm not sure if it is intentional or the reason for the heightened security. And that was that, home and decided I couldn't sleep till I'd seen if they came out alright or not so I edited them up and uploaded. Pleased with myself in the end but it was definitely damage limitation exercise towards the end. If I'd turned back on the A5 from the moors I'd have gotten nothing from the night and not been back THAT much earlier so I still think I'm up on the deal. :)
(Sorry for the ramble in the thread but it is relevant and in my defence this is a greatly abridged version! I abandoned the much long post I'd written:rolleyes:)

Nice work Richie! I keep meaning to try and get a wave crashing like the first one but haven't been on a proper trip to do that yet. The third one is my favourite though, excellent shot, WITT!

Well there's been some great shots this week
There's only a month to go before we've reached the target, so keep up the great work, I wouldn't want to fail with the finish line in sight.
Thanks peeps

I placed the camera on top of a bridge looking straight ahead. The Ivy was growing over the end of the bridge handrail, but I can see where you are coming from, it does make a normally boring inane subject more appealing :)
Said bridge.

Wow, old stuff looks like treacle... mmmm treacle.
Richie, that third one is my favourite, you could pass that off as the acropolis itself. Nicely framed moon in there too, really adds to it.
Mister_C, ahhh now I see, nice. I've tried some shots like that but they never have a background so whilst the DOF draws you in, you get lost in the image as there is nothing to stop your eyes wandering. That really works well though, good shot sir!

Wandered into London to meet up with my old uni mates for our annual natter and headed to the City beforehand. 30 St Mary Axe (The Gerkin) is more reflective than I realised.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4231a_zpsb84f934b.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4231a_zpsb84f934b.jpg.html)
Was looking for a nice angle to get some odd pipework shots of Lloyds of London and found Channel 4 is building a real life version of those blocks that say "4" from the right perspective just next door (or at least it seems that's what's going on).
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4237a_zps4e35ef82.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4237a_zps4e35ef82.jpg.html)
Then it started to drizzle so I headed for the nearest cover and found myself on the set of Harry Potter. I had no idea Leadenhall Market was right next to the modernist Lloyds building. Hovered close-ish to the guide you can see leading the group and she was saying some of the Diagon Alley shots were filmed in and around this hidden gem. Must come back here with a better camera one day.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4251a_zpse4f6c59e.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Org%20pic%20a%20day/IMG_4251a_zpse4f6c59e.jpg.html)
After that it was off to meet the lads for beer and chat and I'm only now actually awake enough to upload things. Was a good day!
Odd to see Brett and Richie had almost too much light in some of their night shots. The light pollution though I think adds another almost ethereal dimension to those shots so I rather like them. I had not enough light - it was very gloomy in London yesterday, but it gives me an excuse to go back on a nicer day, and as that part of The City is totally deserted on a Saturday I won't have the sorts of crowds I found in Covent Garden where I met the lads. Nice Chrimbo baubles there mind...

Braved the cold for the 116 mile round trip to my favorite biker pub.
Was the only biker there but granted was nearly 3:00 pm when I arrived, a few locals wandered in.
They have the best pizza I've ever had anywhere. :D
Been a few weeks since i've been able to get away on the bike and as usual that tends to make me misbehave more.
Luckily there were no police patroling the countryside roads this afternoon!
Although there may be a few villagers along the way who briefly thought they were at the IOM! ;)

Well here's an interesting couple from today. Whilst carrying out a major tidy up today, I was shredding some documents (no I'm not an ex member of the Stazi!). But my cheapo shredder was struggling with the workload, and constantly jamming up. I'd cleared the stuck paper several times, and I'd also blown the sensor clear with an air duster can, as it won't switch off on auto setting.
It had also had a sulk, and refused to do anything after I'd cleared a blockage.
Well, I was getting through some statements & one page decided to jam and the motor let out a final groan, and the WHUUUUUMF, you know the sound you get when you throw a match onto a petrol soaked bonefire!
The paper in the collecting bin was on fire in my living room!!!!!!! Quickly I unplugged it and took it outside, dumped the burning paper on the wet grass, where it continued to burn, until i put it out with some water.
Here's the paper on the lawn
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-V7wUQ7BhmUk/UqYSFu_TESI/AAAAAAAADUQ/nFLO44cWE_E/s640/DSCF0149.JPG
Here's the mangled & heat affected shredder
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-xzpIy_nKeGU/UqYRklPBLtI/AAAAAAAADUE/i6DIyYYv26U/s512/DSCF0370.JPG
A close call, a combination of the propellant from the air duster, paper dust and a spark from the dying motor were the cause of this spontaneous combustion.

I hate ice storms.
With a little help from a generator and a paraffin heater, the place is at least somewhat inhabitable now.
Can't get it to run the well pump though (???) so still no water, but I'll have that sorted tomorrow evening (with the proper bits) if the power is still off.
A few pics of the ice damage around the house early this morning.
More trees would fall taking out the line shown in pic #1 which is the power to my house.
Think this is the largest tree down, a little over 40 ft. tall. (or is that long now?)

Easy for you to say
Well with the recent floods & storms here Bill, seems everyone is getting a bit of a battering with the weather, including you. We don't get ice storms here, so I can't imagine what they're like.
Today was a bright sunny day, damp but not to cold.
So here's a poor effort from me, I didn't much to photo during my ride this morning. I missed a good sunrise photo opportunity.

Here's one for today. 2 lights next to each other on one of our hire transformers, so it just had to be done :)

Nice sunshine - been foggy here all day so my mobile stayed in my pocket today, even though I was in a new-to-me part of London visiting a client that should have given some excuse to snap a few things.. :(

Want to try some time lapse photography, love the effects, may have a play tomorrow.
Here's mine for today. Had my camera in my top box & couldn't miss this sunset last night. Took it from works yard, so nothing really interesting in the pic, just loved the colours.

Spent the entire day cleaning up from the previous weekends ice storm.
Only one more tree left to get up but likely will be January before that happens.

Unfortunately they were all pine trees.
Can't (or shouldn't) burn pine as the residue causes chimney fires.
The one on #1892 ?
That was taken at the in-laws house.
I wish it were mine!
The hearth sits about 2ft. above the floor and makes the perfect place to sit and warm the bones by the fire.

Dang, all that work for no free fuel, but I understand.
My Dad got a winters free fuel when all the Elm trees were cut down after they got Dutch Elm disease many years ago.
I think my car may need cleaning.... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/19/jyhyqusa.jpg
