Like that geo, can't believe it's been tossed away.
I've been a pillock again. I've sold my Speedfight & guess what? I've got another Speedfight :( I couldn't sell the green one for real cash, I was offered iPhones, air rifles, PS4s, but I wanted money for a new camera, so did a deal for this & £400 cash, I must be bloody stupid in the head, but it does mean I'll be buying a Canon 7D in the very near future, plus I've got another toy to play with :)

Cant resist a challenge eh Mr C ;) look forward to what you capture with your new lens.
Painting wasn't in skip it was the bit of wood she painted it on that was pulled out the skip.
Anyone got a canon 700d? I may be coming into some money and fancy a DSLR. I had a quick play with one in Jessop's yesterday.
I've still got an EOS 10 film camera gathering dust somewhere along with some lenses.
My canon sx10is is okay but It's limited for more challenging situations such as motorsports.

I've got the 650d, which is a 700 in all but number (no significant changes just body materials really)! And I love it, really missed the articulated screen on my DSLR.
Value for money is hard to argue with, Nikon offer a little more value but I like canon.
Very jealous of Mister_C eyeing up a 7D but also can't wait to see the results, we need to go on a shoot sometime Col, light painting or something beneficial to have someone else around perhaps.
I'll be back to participating shortly as my project has gone live, I'm just dealing with the fallout now.

I have the 700D. As Brettus says there are only a few mainly cosmetic differences to the 650. It is way more competent than I am right now on the picture front but I don't have as much free time to experiment with it as I'd like. Lovely piece of kit only let down by the kit lens, which I will upgrade to something with L in the name when funds allow.
Thanks chaps. I looked at the equivalent Nikon but the ergonomics didn't appeal as much. I do like my canons.

I'm a big fan of Canons too. I've only had the 300 & 450D, but find them so user friendly & the picture quality is spot on.
I've ordered a Grey Import 7D from Hong Kong after reading a few reviews of the camera & the company I've ordered from. 2nd hand the 7D sells for around £550. I've bought a brand new one for £535. They are identical, but won't have a UK warranty, but, saving £500, I think I can swallow that, if anything goes wrong.

Here you go. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/einfinityshop1
I've paid via Paypal & credit card, just in case, but everything I've read about them seems to be very positive.
Be aware you might get stung for import duty & vat.

Geo, your ex does some amazing art.
However, if she can paint on scrap out of the skip she could certainly paint something nice on your sv for free.
Just think of the free advert she'd be getting just here on the org alone.
Besides she owes you at least that much. ;)
Puny, that's a beautiful dog!
John, love the old car.
They called that bodystyle a 'speedster' in the US.
I find early mechanical technology facinating.
Many of the parts and systems designed then are still the basis of what is in use today.
Know what make it is??

I'd worked out the import duty on £539 (the price of the camera) just in case. It was £107, so it would've been £400 cheaper than buying over here. As long as nothing goes wrong with it within the next 12 months, I'm on a winner :)

I believe it's cost of item + cost of postage which is subject to import duty, and then you pay VAT on the total of all of that. It's a fair old chunk of cash.
You'd still have saved money tho.

Pre-Test match we set up to take all the players' photos for the programme.
If you are only 5'3" and the bowler is 6'8" this can be tricky - as the shortish photographer found today. For once it wasn't me having to stand on the chair to take the pictures. :D

There is a gap in the market for a folding photographer's milk crate it seems! It would be way more stable than a squishy chair seat.
Littlepeahead
10-06-14, 01:02 PM
Squishy chair seat on wheels! At least he wasn't wearing heels and a dress which I have been known to do in a similar situation with very tall players. We had the usual problems today trying to get Broad and Prior to keep a straight face while doing what they call the 'hero' shot - the one where they look mean and moody with their arms folded. Prior in particular dissolves into giggles the minute he's told to look serious and that sets the rest of us off. Never work with children, animals or cricketers.

The Black one or the white one? I have the black one and agree that it is pretty soft unless you step it down three or four stops at 300mm. Useful range though, especially on a crop sensor body.

Another one of High Wycombe's civic events today, but not as eccentric as Beating the Bounds or the Mayor Weighing. RAF High Wycombe is effectively the home of the RAF as all of the previously separate Commands, such as Coastal and Fighter were merged into the existing Bomber Command at RAF HW which is now known simply as Air Command. The RAF has the Freedom of High Wycombe and each year they exercise their right to march through the town with a Freedom Parade. As I am "resting" between jobs right now I had time to go and watch today as it's always on a weekday and I've always previously been at work.
Some of the ex-army National Service veterans I was talking to kept calling the RAF that Soft Shoe Lot. Now I can see why.

Once they were in church several of us decided to miss the marching-down-the-High-Street bit and headed for the roof of the nearest car park. From chatting to the press and RAF snappers earlier I knew which direction the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was coming from and that, sadly following hydraulic issues at the D-Day events we were now getting the Hurricane instead of the Lancaster. Rats. I was looking forward to a nice slow moving, big, easy to focus on bomber... Oh well, I did manage to get a few reasonable shots, shame the clouds had thickened though.

Puny - your dog does make me smile. Our black lab does the same - we see her proudly trotting past the patio door with her "prize" (usually a bag from the bin!) and looks surprised when we follow her out there and take it off her before she shreds the contents all over the lawn.
As the phone is hardly ringing off the hook with job offers I had a go at another of the Hurricane shots from yesterday. As the sky was so moody I took most of the colour out. Tally ho!

So today's photo commission was a little bit different. It may look like just another photo of Lord's, and really it is. But this one was taken today at the special request of the family of a Member who died last week aged 88. The image is going to be printed onto a white coffin and he will be buried next week inside an image of his favourite place. What's more, as the photo shows the Members' seating somewhere in the photo are all his cricket buddies. It;s actually 3 photos stitched together as they needed it panoramic for the long shape of the coffin and also at very high res, 30mb.
It's the first time I've ever had to take a photo for a dead person!

Was in Reading today speaking to some recruitment consultants. Had half an hour between appointments so found some shade in Forbury Gardens. This Mistle Thrush was keeping an eye on me, obviously hoping I'd drop some food, and patiently waited for me to swap the telephoto lens on, which was nice of him.

This is bigger and lighter in colour than the Song Thrushes I get in my garden at home, who spend all day smashing snails against the path to break open their shells...

I see I started a trend in posting up pics of birds with skinny legs.
Here's mine for today - I swear the assignments I get are more random each day - and so today's was persuading Shane Warne to have his photo taken with a cardboard cutout of himself. All of the [male] media team who came up with this daft idea were then too scared to go and ask him so left that job to me.

Lovely shot Trev. I was chatting to the bloke with the KTM/Triumph. It's a 1 off that races in the Thundersport series. They daren't try too hard at the moment because it was such a swine getting the engine into the KTM chassis. He reckons it weighs about as much as a fag paper & goes like stink lol.
Here's mine for today. Been for a ride to the Shropshire town of Atcham, seeing where my ancestors came from. What a lovely little village, can't understand how we ended up in a dump like Crewe, but, hey ho, that's history for you. This was taken in the graveyard of Battlefield Church.

This was taken in the graveyard of Battlefield Church.
Next time you're in Battlefield get some sausages from the (now rather large) farm shop. Very, very nice on the BBQ.
But if you go today be careful as you may bump into Lady Poppy who's up there visiting her dad. He lives in Clive village, just a couple of miles north of Battlefield.

Not tried the sausages but I do duo in for the chilli relish. 1409 I think the farm shop is called.

I'm at that stage where I've worked 7 days in a row leaving home at 6am and getting home at 11pm and rushing about all day, I'm dog tired, but I'm not complaining because my job really does have some perks. One is getting a hug from Kumar Sangakarra last night after he got a century, and the other is photographing some of my favourite people.

Trev, it was a little early when I was around there. I left home at 5am to beat the traffic :)
Cracking shots once again Richie I really like the 2nd one.
We were at The Waterfront festival in Liverpool on Saturday & thought I'd have a bash at HDR, got these 2. I really need to sit down with my new camera as I wasn't pleased with some of the results (or could that be down to the dunce behind it? :p)

I know Brett had a go at a location but I've seen scenery like this on Top Gear and they said it was Surrey. Or was it Hertfordshire? Looks wonderful in any case.
Love the tools on the boat Col. Did you use a built-in HDR or is it post-production? I know my 700D had it on-board but I've not had chance to try it.
