Went out for a walk down the Grand Union Canal from Berkhamsted to Hemel Hempstead today. With the Euston to Northampton mainline on one side and the A41 dual carriageway on the other it was hardly peaceful but the light was great and the boat traffic was almost non existent. In fact it was iced over in several places. In the shade the frost has not melted for several days.

Morning off skiing today, instead we took the Mountain train up to Montenvers overlooking at Mer de Glace glacier, and a cable car down the the glacier ice caves.

Mav, you should defo get over to Tunstall. Winding route through the trees, you would love it. I would have had some Gopro footage but I forgot one of the adapters for the handlebar mount.

Yep, maybe next week once the kids are back at school.

i might even ride the whole way from Felixstowe one day, but it won't be on my mountain bike, but douable on my cross bike

I thought I'd share with you the Guardian gallery of their photos of the year, just to inspire us for 2015. There are some stunning images and some terribly sad ones too of the cruelty of humans.

I go back to work on 5th, my first job will be to sort through the entries for the Wisden-MCC cricket photo of the year. Normally I love this task, but this time I know there will be many photos entered of the tributes to cricketer Philip Hughes. I really hope the judges will choose at least one as a Top 11 winner, but seeing this reminder if my friend's death is going to be tough.
