I believe the expression is, "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul"
Spent a pleasant couple of days in Cardiff. I've a few photos of interest but I'll post them gradually.
This is the Arabian room in Cardiff Castle

It's an impressive room indeed John and you got a much nicer pic of it than I did a couple of years ago. Nice one.
Thanks. Nothing clever done. Just hand held and image stabilisation does the rest. One thing that is handy on my camera is the fold out screen. I held the camera at waist level facing up and the screen swivelled round so I could compose the shot.

I cant get too excited about cars. For me they are in the same category as cookers and fridges. Thank God I have a bike.

Nice. I'll have to add that to my Must Visit list.
Mine for today. Taken at Cardiff Bay. This is a monument to all Merchant Seamen who have lost their lives.
I found it very moving for a piece of modern artwork.

Taken yesterday but didn't have time to post.
Abandoned tobacco barn and farm equipment.
From it's inception in the early 1600's until the late 1970's tobacco was grown nearly every available field in Britian's first colony. (Virginia)
http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/thebanannaman/ba05ce07-3a3d-49f7-8071-5535ec351b23_zps75d467c8.jpg
Barn with one room cabin attached.
Both were originally log buildings with oak clapboard siding added later.
A trap door in the middle of the floor leads to a huge cellar beneath the cabin which extends under the dirt foor of the barn.
It's very dark and the rear wall is far enough back where it would have only been visible if you climbed down the ladder to the floor of the cellar with a lantern, even in the brightest daylight.
A primitively made ladder to access the cellar is made from small trees with bark still on which suggests the ladder was likely constucted by slaves and the cellar may have been used as a hiding place for runaway slaves.

Manor house from the 1800's now being restored.
This would have belonged to a very rich land owner.

One from tonight, decided to go test my bike (the pedal variety) out on a route I'd found.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/30/4ybu8e4e.jpg
Not my best picture but I didn't stop riding to take it and it was behind me in my defence.
First time out in over a year but managed the complete circuit (13 miles)

Really enjoyable route as it is flat all the way round and nicely paved.
It's a school night, but who cares?!

Chilly start but a nice forecast, so fish and chips at the seaside was the plan. Ended up in Lee on the Solent.
After a HUGE slab of Cod I started lobbing the last of my chips in the air and after the first two landed on the ground these guys got very good at catching them in mid air.

And wandering along the prom a little way after I'd finished (searching for ice cream, which was easy to find) I was treated to a dinghy race from the local sailing club.

The helmet is a new Roof Boxer, bought at the bike show last November. The downside over his old Shark is it has no sun visor and the chin guard doesn't lock in place when open, but it's much lighter than a lot of flip fronts.

Wrong time of year for felling trees!
Hope there weren't any birds nesting :(
My neighbour was just setting up to trim the laurel hedge between us at the weekend when I told him about the blackbirds nesting in it that may not be too pleased. Thankfully he agreed to wait until summer.
I have several fir trees like that around Trev Towers but the birds don't seem to like nesting in them so hopefully you were fine Brett.

Yep, no need to panic, no nest found, not even old ones. I admit I didn't think about that beforehand but all is well.
I've bucked both trunks by hand and stacked them now. Feeling very virtuous.
Also did 15 mins on the rowing machine last night and am off for a cycling lap this evening after work, I'm getting better. The garden isn't going to know whats hit it.
Sir Trev
07-05-14, 05:08 PM
After my neighbours made such a Horlicks of trimming the formally wonderful Silver Birch trees right on the border between us we were worried that the nesting box I put on a fence post near our back wall would be empty this year. Sure enough, no sign of the Coal Tits who have nested in there for the past two years. But, we spotted two of these guys going in and out over the last few days. Hoorah!
Early in the season so looking reasonably fresh. As they're not in and out every 30 seconds I'm guessing they're sitting not feeding right now. Will have to make a hide so I can get a bit closer without annoying them - the glare I was getting as I hid badly behind a palisade fence with the camera resting on the top is withering! Hopefully I can get one in better focus too...

It is quite intentional that things here look similar to Britian, but not by me.
Virginia (the state I live in) was Britian's first colony.
This area was settled almost exclusively by the English from the early 1600's until the late 1800's and many chose here because much of the landscape in Virginia closely resembled that of home.
Likewise the higher mountains of North Carolina just to our south were settled predominantely by the Scots for the same reason.
Nearly 90% of the cities, towns and counties in Vriginia are named for a town, city, county in the UK.
We have a Suffolk and and a Norfolk and they are rivals.
Crewe here is a railroad hub.
I could go on all day long.
So it's no wonder when most of the market towns' 'downtown areas' were built in the early 1900's, they were built of brick and to look like shops in the UK.
Even though you might not claim us anymore, we are Britain's barsteward child. ;)

And the Irish? Seattle, because it rains all the time??
Even though you might not claim us anymore, we are Britain's barsteward child. ;)
I wouldn't say barsteward child. More like unruly rebel that wanted his independence too early and never quite grew up.
Not without good reason tho - the English in charge at the time were rather strict and stuffy parents, with great expectations and demands.

You should record your find here...http://www.ptes.org/index.php?page=392
Didn't know they were endangered! Saw loads of them last year, some of them the length of my hand. They sound like a Lancaster bomber when they fly past.

My "adopted" dog. This is my missus's dog, who has been a vegetarian for 4 years (poor thing) So I bought him a bone. Poor little bugger keeps licking it, but didn't know what to do with it.

I haven't had the camera out for a few days but while searching for a picture of something completely different I came across this one in my files and it made me chuckle. I bet we won't see this on any of the roads on AR.

There are elephant signs near whipsnade. A friend had his wife believing that there were a few wild elephants in the area due to some pet escapes many years ago...

Did not have time to post these yesterday.
The people of High Wycombe (ie me and my neighbours) are a bit odd. Every year the Mayor and cronies walk around the old parish boundary and stop off at the remaining marker stones and accost the nearest small person, turn them upside down, and bump their head on a ceremonial box. I kid you not. Beating the Bounds it is called and will hopefully not land His Worship in the dock next to Rolf Harris.

A reporter from the local paper was following the procession too and as I was the only person wielding a camera bigger than a phone or micro-sized compact everyone thought I was the press photographer along with him. The good thing about that was of course everyone got out of my way so I could get better shots and the subjects kept posing for me.

They also ignored me when I got up close to the ceremonial mace. Perhaps I should have asked them to prop it up so the background was nicer than the cheapo plastic table it was resting on when we stopped for tea at the end of the procession.

In a couple of weeks time it is the annual Mayor Weighing ceremony, the other oddity we celebrate. The mayor (and all the town, regional and county councillors, dean of the university, police chief, base commander at RAF Command....) go individually into a weighing chair and if they have put on weight compared to the year before they are booed. A cheer rings out if they've not. We are an odd bunch!
No prizes for guessing where I was yesterday

The Cricketer Magazine commissioned me to take the photos for a 6 page spread which was published today. I did all the photos of the cricketer in his whites walking to and from the dressing rooms plus some of the stock shots of the portraits. I even got a credit! :D
