MMMMMMMM CHEEEEEEESE!

A thank you gift from my photographer. He said he knows I don't really drink, and chocolate isn't really my thing so instead he went to La Fromagerie in Marylebone and bought me a big box of yummy cheese. Most of it is unpasterised, at least one is really stinky, I've had to apologise to my colleagues about the smell coming from the fridge.

Would you like an Easter egg? I'm sure I saw some the other day... But then I could have been hallucinating as I've been working a bit too hard lately.

I came home late Monday night and noticed how wonderful Shrewsbury station looked at night. Must go back with a tripod.
Also it's the season of Xmas lights in towns and they can create some interesting possibilities.

maybe they're appealing to a more "fabulous" class of clientele ;)

Richie: Been meaning to post for a while but haven't managed to get time to get my thoughts in order. I've seen your progress and refinement of your art with a camera and since retiring from active duty (apologies if I'm misusing a phrase there, blame Hollywood) you've really come into your own. As you can no doubt tell from my previous posts I measure pictures on a "I wish I'd taken that" scale, you've started scoring way more of those recently but also another level that I was previously unaware of (I appreciate this might speak more of my conceited ego perhaps but I'd like to think not) for shots that "I couldn't do that well"

I often see pictures and want to try my hand at them and I'll take my own version of a shot and either consider it better or be satisfied with my own enough that it makes no difference. But some of your shots recently (one of the lake district ones springs to mind) I've thought, I'd not have spotted that and even if I was there I doubt I'd do as well as that.

Anyway, not meaning to sound egotistical or anything of the like but wanted to say it.

In a similar vein I can't wait to see what BP does with his new full frame goodness :)

I had the day off on Thursday last week and was doing a spot of Chrimbo shopping when I came across a stage being built in Wycombe town centre. My dry cleaner told me Shane Richie was turning on the light that evening, he's starring in panto here this year. So I wandered back with my camera later in the day to find reindeer in a pen by the millennium clock...

Hanging around for two hours getting increasingly cold I was eventually treated to a bloke in costume turning the lights on. Pretty sure it was not Shane. Pretty sure my dry cleaner had been guessing. I was so fed up I didn't bother uploading the pics until last night.

Still getting used to it, plus playing with Lightroom (free 30 trial version) for the first time. I'm a bit surprised to find that many 6D users have to input a +2/3 stop to get correctly exposed shots though. Maybe a new firmware will help...

Richie, great timing on that wave, plus the long exposure is lovely on the first shot.

Cheers! First is an HDR, second is split-toned in Light room.

Check your lens. If it's EF, it will be fine. EF-S lenses won't work.

www.Panamoz.com for a 6D. Mine arrived in a few days, guaranteed no import duties etc plus a three year guarantee that according to reviews, is very good.

Went for a wander to se a local engineering marvel. Most of us know how arches are strong as they spread the weight and allow bridges to span gaps. Roman arches are almost semi-circular, gothic ones are pointed. In 1838 Brunel built this bridge over the Thames between Maidenhead and Taplow as part of his Great Western Railway, which up til then had required a ferry. Everyone scoffed at his plans and said it would fall into the river as the arch was too shallow but here we are nearly 200 years later with high speed trains hurtling over it at 100-odd miles per hour. It is still the widest and flattest brick arch in the world. Shame the sun was not playing ball though.

Ditto from me.

I've discovered I've no patience in playing with RAW files. (After ****ing about for the last hour with bike show images)

I know exactly what you mean! If you read www.kenrockwell.com , he claims to never shoot RAW. I do, like playing with images, but a good jpeg straight from the camera is already processed, sharpened and colour corrected. Get the exposure right in camera and you shouldn't need to use RAW. I find myself twiddling for ages and get nowhere some days.I'm lucky that the 6D can be set up just how I like it, like your Nikon.

I've got DXO for free and it's powerfully enough to edit jpegs almost as well as RAW. Plus, you get more pics on your card!

Lol. Nice to know it's not just me. I think I prefer to shoot in jpg and then play in Photoshop elements to crop straighten and otherwise correct schoolboy errors when shooting. Interestingly the 700d has the option to shoot in jpg+raw, so two for the price of one.

It's not just you. If I had the patience I'd read up and/or watch a few how-to guides to twiddle with RAW images properly as I don't always improve the image in front of me. After trying the free RAW editor we were discussing the other week I also prefer the more simple options in the OE editor from Canon which I'm going to revert to now.

Pete, can I use the lenses for the Canon 650D on a Canon 6D ????

Bluepete
01-12-14, 06:31 PM
Richie, it depends on what type they are. EF lenses will work on a 6D, EF-S lenses won't even fit. If they're not canon, check the manufacturers site.

I'm so impressed by the high iso's of modern cameras. I remember buying the first iso 1600 film back in the late 80's, so grainy.

Evening all, good to see you again Mister_C :) Been watching your flickr but nice to have you "in person" so to speak :)

Well the Scotland trip got cut short, no Edinburgh and only one evening walk back from the concerts to get shots. Called at this though, wanted to see it for years:
