exactly as I (and I'd wager most others) do, I shoot LOADS but I've learnt to only show my 1% that I think stand out. It is a little conceited perhaps but it stops my best stuff getting drowned out by the dross I also turn out.
I've got two flickr streams as I've now taken to uploading the next 2-3% that I'd like to share but not put into my main lot as it'd dilute the potency to see 3-4 variations of a shot.

Its similar to what my Dad used as a professional photographer. This is what he used, not quite at the top end, which were Rolliflex, but good enough for pro work.

The advantage at the time, was the size of the negative, which meant you could blow the image up and print big pictures without loss of quality.

Such a lovely day today but did I get out. No. My son went out Saturday night and I offered to pick him up the next day. What I didn't know is that he went fishing and I had to wait till 3pm before I got the 'pick me up text'. Grrr.

Still the pick up point was very scenic.

Sorry for the splurge of images but so many cool ones, check out the others from the link after the second image.
Enjoyed posting these as they were all edited up on my new Surface Pro 3, used the stylus for most of the lightroom work. Found it surprisingly good, expected to have to adapt but I mis-clicked less than with my mouse! Performance isn't as slick as it is on the Alienware but I can't blame it, it was perfectly adequate though. Really liking this new gadget so far. Should be good for photography on the go (Copenhagen later in the month)

Richie: Really like those aircraft shots! I must search for some places like that, they will be around but I'll not have paid enough attention yet.

Kenzie: Looking forward to seeing the results from your analog experiment :)

Bill: I think I've seen some amazing sunsets but few of them compare to the ones you seem to get. Utterly awe inspiring, keep em coming!

DB: Liking the planes, distinct shapes of a bygone era. The cloud really adds to the picture too, nice shot!

Brettus
08-09-14, 07:54 PM
Thanks guys, I just dropped lucky on my drive to work. I could still bring the shadows up a little Kenzie, I did shoot a HDR while I was there but it won't be well framed.
I'd opted for the contrasting dark parts but was trying to balance processing on two unfamiliar monitors so it might be a little darker than I intended.

Wow Brettus and ophic love the misty shots, ive got some woods out the back of my house and every year when the bluebells are out i wait for a misty morning to capture them both together and its still not happened but it will one day, i hope.

Brett how did you alter the lower detail and contrast on web in your shot or is it far to long an essay to explain to a novice.

Not hard at all, the software is magic and very simple. Lightroom lets me drag a graduated filter from the bottom of the screen in this case and then adjust what settings will be applied in a graduated fashion so you can't see any obvious line where it changes.
I just turned the exposure up a notch and added a bit of highlight slider to make the cobweb stand out a little more.

With the surface pro 3 I can use the stylus on the screen and do adjustments using a brush too (you can do it with a mouse but I'm rarely very good, much more natural with a pen) so that you can "airbrush" effects into the image, so you airbrush over in a haze and then tell it "where I've hazed, make the image like this" and set your settings just for that region. lets you highlight or hide things and such. I try not to use localised adjustments unless absolutely necessary though, bit too much like cheating for my liking.

nice and quick guide, really easy but really effective. instead of bringing the detail back into the sky I lightened up the shaded ground. same principle though:

I've got my mojo back!

Cracking ride out into Yorkshire, Forest of Bowland, Hawes, Slaidburn and so on. Took a few selfies!

Went to see Nik Kershaw tonight in Shrewsbury. In the foyer of the theatre was this sculpture made completely of brown wrapping paper. Very impressive.

That's. ...interesting Bill! What did that used to be?

Moonshine production facility :p ;)

Perhaps so.

For as long as anyone can remember it was a very old looking unused wooden barn on a farm owned by an older couple.
After they had both passed on the building (and property) was cleaned out by their son and the property was sold.
Current owners sold the logs from the wood building, was only then the newer concrete block structure was exposed which took up about 1/2 the space of the exterior log building.

I remember the old gentleman telling me on several occasions, "You might think you know someone for years, but you don't know who they really are behind closed doors."
Was he talking about himself?
And what was the one room block building hidden in a barn used for???
Very strange.

Went to a tin mine that closed and the locker room was apparently untouched since the day it closed. Don't believe that but anyways...

That's amazing!
Can't believe how talented some people are, taking ordinary stuff and making it into something extraordinary.

Wonder how long it took to do all that.

In great respect of todays date, I took this photo of our own small Twin Towers in Houghton Le Spring.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
