Doh, forgot about that (I haven't even used it since)
Looks like they are taking orders for another production run, no shipping costs mentioned but it was $15 for the kickstarter campaign and they sent it in such a way that I didn't get stung for import fees.
So, $279+15 seems to work out around £171.50 at todays rate.
I'd question the value at that point. I'm pretty sure when I backed it, I paid just over £100.

Thanks for getting that, it does sound a little steep although it looks very well made.

I wonder if i can *******ize a child's windup music box for the same purpose....

Meant to post similar sentiments about this one:

But I've been mega busy with work, normally I'd be in the office again now but I've taken a week off and am in the small village of Haltwhistle which is superbly near sycamore gap so I'm hoping to get a couple of my own shots of that iconic location!

Car is loaded up with hobby kit, photography, laptop/gaming, quadcopter (and a small amount of real luggage/clothes ;))

From last night - the Soho Massive gathering on Frith Street. Considering the bizarre maze of roads in the area, and the disruption caused in London in general by the building of Crossrail, I'm amazed any of them can find the place. Glad I was walking after coming in on the train.

Well I'm two days in to my holiday and first time I've gotten the camera out:

Apartment view (https://flic.kr/p/opaAeK) by Brettus - Brettnet.co.uk (https://www.flickr.com/people//), on Flickr

Had my eye on the shot for a little while though, biding my time. Weather was brighter today and I got the solitary bird (not as big as the one that was up there on his own yesterday in the dull conditions but you take what you get)

Got some plans that may or may not come to fruition, either way I'll have shots, whether they are compelling ones is a matter of opinion, circumstances and luck. :)

Spooky time - just uploaded a shot for today to Flikr, checked this page, went back to Flikr and... there at the top of the page is Brett's very same shot. Have a good holiday old bean.

Headed to the historic village of West Wycombe today. The church on the hill opens it's tower in the summer on Sundays so Lady Poppy and I decided to head up and see what it was like. Spectacular is the word. Will post a pic or two of the tower and view tomorrow but for today here is a pic of the central painting on the ceiling of the nave. Glad I lugged the tripod up the hill now as the light was very poor for hand-held.

Agree with you on Bill's shot (so jealous of that scenery) but your "cliché" picture is also a neat composition. Lots leading the eye towards the tree as a central character and an interesting sky behind it. I love that part of the world - shame it's so far away from where I live (and don't get me started about the roads on Bibio's doorstep!!).

As mentioned yesterday here are a couple more of West Wycombe church.

Main door and tower (and Lady Poppy sitting on the bench reading the guide book).
https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5555/14524514188_81eda2729b_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/o8tW3q)Tower and Nave (https://flic.kr/p/o8tW3q) by Sir Trev (https://www.flickr.com/people//), on Flickr

The tower was open so for just £2 we got to climb up to the top. Well, not quite. The unique golden ball at the top is not open to the public any more but a hinged area (on the other side) was reached via a chain and very precarious looking steps set into the support below it. Frequented by the politicians/nobles who were also members of the Hell Fire Club, that met in the caves cut into the hill the church sits on, goodness only knows what they got up to in there...

Talking of the aristocracy, the Dashwoods were the big land owners of the area and they're all buried in the very ostentatious Mausoleum next to the church. The very straight road behind it is the A40 leading east to High Wycombe.

Ohhhh, you're gonna be jealous in a moment Richie, I've been BACK, already!

I'd scouted a new path and set off back there when the time was right (when Astronomical Twilight had begun... which last night was around 23:45!)

Brettus "Balls of steel" Maximus rides again, a 20 minute walk through unfamiliar landscape using as little head torch lumens as possible because I'd forgotten my secondary torch!!! I'd got my iPhone as a fall back if my head torch died.

Half way I was startled by a pair of green eyes in the path ahead! I'm calling in the kudos for not even breaking step, my trudge continued but I turned the brightness up and surveyed around me, more eyes, 4-5 pairs..... I focused the torch on the eyes in the path...... a big cow was staring at me dumbfounded.....

I got there, set up and stood in silence and darkness as I couldn't risk using the torch and flattening it and also risking the shots.......

Oh and I was ALONE! (my own stupid fault, I'm too pig headed to organise anything with anyone to accompany me)

I managed 45 minutes before I was getting twitchy as the small creatures got used to me being there and started moving around from time to time.
I packed up my camping chair and with my last shot I shone the torch over the tree thinking I can use it or not, it might look stupid but I think it worked really well.

The result of all this madness was a picture I'm rather proud of:

Very nice work Brettus

Brettus
22-07-14, 11:30 AM
Thanks guys, I'm particularly pleased with myself for this one. It was one of those that I'd thought of what I wanted from the end result and by the time I'd merged them and the last shot was added so the tree stopped being a silhouette and popped into muted coloured existence I was so pleased that I'd achieved it.

Despite it being a popular location there are few star trails of the spot so I wanted to give it a go.

Geodude, definitely do it! I'd love to see some analog stuff. I appreciate it a whole lot but I'm too reliant on technology and liking the options that it opens up for me to dare to put myself out of my comfort zone by that margin :)

I'd been sat on the sidelines for a month or so whilst so busy at work watching everyone contribute and there have been some cracking pictures making me jealous but I need a holy trinity of Inspiration, Enthusiasm and Opportunity to coincide for me to take a shot most of the time.

I don't mean to sound big headed but the feedback from you guys here is what keeps me motivated. Finding new ways or new subjects. (Often taking inspiration from other posts (I hope I don't ever tread on anyones toes, shout up if so!)) trying to impress you lot :)

And your ego swelling comments are always hugely appreciated, I try to keep grounded but apologise if I come across as pompous and self righteous, I'm just enthusiastic (mostly) and like others to share in it.

Brettus

Looking forward to seeing what you come back with Kenzie, I really like the lake district, quite a photogenic area. I've not managed to get up there since getting "into" photography, had a camera last time but snapshots and tourism was the order of the day. Some interesting and unique to the area subjects around, can't go wrong with landscape shots there either.
The harder you work, the luckier you get seems to be a good motto I heard that is particularly true of landscapes. Get yourself up early and or high (in the physical sense not the pharmacological) and you will get some impressive shots, less common ones.

Wow that looks ace. If you happen to be there between 22nd and 29th August you will have a good chance of getting a clear picture of the milky way. It'll be visible when the moon hasn't risen yet but new moon is best time to view it. I've got designs on getting a reflected shot in some still water somewhere one night but it is a rare set of circumstances.

Looks like a great area for landscapes, definitely try some panoramas too, just take multiple pics and then stitch them together in software afterwards.

Anyway, live firing stops tonight at 17:00 and doesn't resume until tomorrow at 09:00, this is the only time it is inactive during the rest of my stay. Anyone fancy an evening on the range? ;)

Assuming I can locate some of their targets I think an enviable photo is almost guaranteed.

I'd imagine darkness would be most suited so after 21:00 because I've got all manner of light painting goodies but I'm up for anything as my window of opportunity is closing. Light painting at least wouldn't be clear sky dependant so weather (assuming it isn't raining) wouldn't be a problem.

Anyone fancy it? (no worries if not, short notice and all, just thought I'd at least try to not go alone this time ;))

Yeah I had to HDR it quite a lot, didn't have much option as the light was fading fast, I'd already missed sunset just trying to find the place.

Love it! Reminds me of one of Sir_Trevs shots IIRC.

Really like the bold contrasting colours and the framing that the reflection does. Nice shot!
The column on the left really makes it but the "lean" on it distracts me. I'd likely sic lightrooms perspective correction on it and let it settle it out (assuming it doesn't then try and crop it off the picture)

Hmm just had a quick look and unfortunately it does lose some of that nice curving structure unless you clone some of it, slightly less than delicately:

I love pictures that evoke a song lyric, that one really fits too. Nice!
Portrait orientation works well to lead you in with the road.

The truck can't have flattened that car like that. Too evenly flat. Also, the car has no engine and one wheel is is the boot. I say it's a set up shot.

Is a set up.
Nutters at the local car breakers did this in front of their shop to attract attention.
Truck did flatten car like this and it does have an engine.
Tyres were removed prior as it was too tall with them on.

OK last day I'll hog the thread I promise (Back to work as of Monday and will be long days again)
I drove home today and decided to take a couple of diversions (and photos).

One was through the lake district and I saw there were bales in the fields, I'm a sucker for a bale shot.

After a nice fish bar lunch in Ambleside we pushed on to Morecambe for some ice-cream afters.

I had wanted to see the memorial so made sure I parked close by, tried a few different shots and felt this did it the most justice:

@ Brettus...

That shot of the memorial of Eric Morecambe makes my eyes go funny, (well the background anyway). :-s

Brettus

hah yep, sorry about that, I chose to keep the focus on the quote and just have the statue there but not in detail as I couldn't get rid of the people and I couldn't get much detailing on the statue with the distance using my wide lens.

I also moved the clarity slider to the left (to decrease clarity) as it gave it a blurrier, ethereal "glow" to the image which I sort of liked, given the subject matter.

Ace shots Kenzie! First two are proper envy instilling.

Any tweaking, or are they as the camera shot?
What camera are you using again?

I love that the penguin is isolated for emphasis but the background gives plenty of context.

I think a little cropping and resizing but that is it (one may have had the lighting tweaked but I cannot remember which one). These were taken with my D3200 and my Tamron 70-300. I actually used my wife's shoulder to steady one of the shots.

A few more from yesterday. These have been tweaked to adjust levels after the light washed them out and a bit of sharpening.

LPH: looks like quite an achievement, supremely satisfying to get an end result :-)

Richie: love that, really nice use of the environment to give foreground too, I feel like I'm. Missing something over on the left somehow but really like that!

My shot in that location was the usual tourist shot, nothing original or interesting, liking that a lot!

Really like your colour popped tube shot, I'd likely have desaturated the posters with an adjustment brush (for good or ill) didn't want to post it on flickr and pollute your praise and appear like a douchebag as that's not my intention but the readers of the org know me for what I am so "c'est la vie"

Can't wait to head to London again next and try to refine my shots with what I've seen since.

Nice looking tomatoes LPH!

Really wish I had done this. Usually I have tons of them given to me every year but we've had a drought this season so no one is giving any away (or selling) and store bought ones taste....well you know.

Never tried growing them in hanging baskets but it's becoming very popular.

The tomatoes did not go in the fridge, they went into Mr LPH's packed lunch.

Now I'm waiting for Richie's pic today as I've just given him and his lovely family a tour of Lord's - always happy to have some Orgers visit me at work, especially when the sun is out, Middlesex are playing here and England have just won a Test match elsewhere. We chose to ignore all those 'no photography' signs near the Ashes Urn too.
