yes mate, you used a Fuji finepic s4800 :P
nice camera.

How the bloody hell did you know that?!

He's got a very big lens!
What I'm wondering is, did you go and look at your camera to check his claim? ;-)

Yes, yes I did..

On the off chance you are being serious (I may (or may not) be inebriated beyond the point of sarcasm) the trick is exif data. Cameras store details of how, when (sometimes where) and what the picture was taken with. I think the exif on all my pictures should be public on Flickr so if you look for image info it'll show things like shutter speed, camera mode, what lens I was using, what the zoom the lens was at even.

I might be missing the joke and wasting my (digital) breath but if not then look it up, it can be handy to find how someone got a particular shot. Or what camera they used so you can feel better/worse about your own. Flickr is also good for that as you can search by camera model and see pictures people have taken with the same camera. It is often dispiriting at first but then can bring hope once you realise you can do the same, if you find out how.

Yesterday I went to Old MacDonald Farm. It is a place in Essex where the clinically obese go to scream at their badly behaved children and gorge on saturated fat, with a few sad looking animals and lots of overcrowded rides. However, my nephews seemed to enjoy it.

Hairy beavers (or they might be otters, I'm no expert)

So that tells you I'd only taken a short lens, the long lens was in the car, so had to use it at full zoom. I wanted the background blurred so set at aperture priority f3.2 which in the bright conditions allowed me a fast shutter speed to freeze the action as they were moving fast. 200 ISO as I knew I'd have to do some severe cropping which the sunshine allowed. Matrix metering as the scene was evenly lit, auto WB as the camera does this adequately.

I don't think it's worth £13.50 for kids over 2 and £14.50 for adults. Especially as it's then £1 a go on a lot of stuff and the free rides are only for kids under 10. The animals look pretty fed up.

Colchester Zoo is loads better. We only went because my family won free tickets, I paid.

Went for a ride about on the Mrs new scooter to run it in for her and to try my new little camera out.

Went though Sevenoaks and found a nice well kept memorial

The new camera seems rather capable Ch00, even shoots RAW I notice, very cool. Oops, I was looking at a fuji with the same model number. Liking the Nikon more though, looks very compact but a huge zoom!
A good crop of pictures in the last few days!

I've got an inkling of an idea for tonight so something may come of it, stay tuned. (posted tomorrow though as it'll be a late one if it works at all)

Today I've been bleeding the brakes on the VFR. It has combined brakes and ABS and as you can see it's a plumbers nightmare. On the left is the rear ABS unit and on the right the proportional control valve (there's another valve on the left side too)

Took most of the morning to bleed it all with fresh fluid.

As for fitting braided hoses. The cost would be prohibitive let alone the nightmare of bleeding.

Well I did manage to get out last night, 5 hrs driving around Wales from 22:30 last night...... I must be nuts.
I got a few shots which I'll link shortly when they're uploaded but here was my favourite from the night:

Jon beneath the stars (https://flic.kr/p/oSNoHi) by Brettus - Brettnet.co.uk (https://www.flickr.com/people/60055313@N00/), on Flickr

So satisfying to get back and know you've got some images you're happy with. I've done it before and drove nearly 90 minutes only to realise it wasn't going to get dark enough that night to see anything.

Such a shame about the pier, nice pictures though as it is an interesting subject. I'd like to spend some time at the seaside sometime.

That seagull looks the grumpiest I've ever seen one :) First moth one looks neat too.

And yep, I pretty much did kidnap him, convinced him it'd be a quick trip into Wales to see the Milky Way. 5 hrs later he was all tuckered out heading through Bala.

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/08/24/c78c6a64fdb3ad8067f11d390e49f911.jpg

Most of them ended up variations on the theme which I try to avoid repetition but I'd waited and plotted to shoot the milky way so I got as many options as I could.

Matt: Check out kitcamera as an app for a few more creative things (not like instagram type stuff, you can do longer shutter or timer shots and things). I take most of my iPhone ones using the built in app as it is pretty damn good but kitcamera has a few nice things it can't do.

One from yesterday I didn't get a chance to upload, this is one of five 9 day old kittens my sister is fostering for the vet. A woman dumped them off claiming the mother cat had disappeared, mother turned up a few hours later but the owner then said she didn't want the kittens back. My sis is hand feeding them with a syringe every 4 hours, they are very cute but incredibly noisy when they are all miowing at once.

And today I drove Mr LPH to the Meantime Brewery beer festival at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. It just rained all day and the event is outside so although it was fun the weather did spoil what would have been a glorious setting on the banks of the Thames. I was hoping the rain would stop for a while so I could photograph the beautiful architecture but no such luck.

Very good actually. Satnav instructions were nice and clear at all speeds. I've not tried music and I wouldn't expect much in that respect.

I paid £12 on eBay also available on Amazon

May have to give them a try then. How much clearance was there between the leads/end of the earplugs and the sides of your lid?

Plenty. I've tried all sorts of in ear headphones and they either fall out as you put your helmet on or hurt your ears whilst riding. These are not so effective from an music audio point of view but they do keep out the background noise enhancing the audio from the phones. They don't fall out when you take off your helmet too. Well worth £12 for the odd time I need satnav assistance on the bike.

Bought some sennheisser earphones that have great audio quality and offer quite fair protection from wind noise even when not playing music.

Thanks John. I only want them for occasional satnav use. I never play music while I'm riding as I like the soundtrack that comes free with the bike!

I like the HDR. Which programme did you edit with?

I did these from the Cairngorms with a freeby from the internet called Luminance HDR. It's not bad.

They have a really pleasant arty feel to them. Love the second one :)
I use either CS4 or a purpose built program called photomatics pro for HDR pics. Since modern cameras have such a vast dynamic range, its not often I do them these days other than for special effect. Even then I tend to tone them down a little. People tend to love them though. It does not suit everything but can often be a nice surprise :)
