Ok, after the success of Photo a Day 2013, here's the new thread

Same rules, photos must be taken by you and not from the interweb. Doesn't matter if its from a mobile phone, compact digital or SLR. If you still use film, then I'd happily accept a scanned negative or print of your photo

One major change is the change to IF POSSIBLE clause from the must have one posted up each day, which I monitored and rescued the thread from time to time last year.

We we proved that it was possible to do it, so I'm not going to worry about it this year, been there done that. Takes the pressure off me :D

Hope this is acceptable, if you've got any suggestions then post them up, so long as they don't impinge on the other monthly photo comps?

Can we put one that's already on another thread?
Hope so, or you are looking at a blank screen.

Yes, on my compact I have the time stamp set, so it shows when I took it, but I'm not going to be picky about this

Can we put one that's already on another thread?

Yes

I thought I would join in this year!
The Christmas shopping is all but finished and it's time to take the decorations down.

I have inflicted a rule on all my photography this year - must be taken on my phone (iPhone 4S) but I am allowing myself to retouch etc so long as it is only with on handset apps. Having said that this photo is untouched.

Nice shots Mav, I pondered heading to the coast myself today to get some shots but figured the dull weather and the fact most of it was over was going to result in disappointment.

Looks like you had it brighter down there and those shots are full of action.

Mav - that is a W-I-D-E pic!

Col - love the colours

Richie - don't let your bosses know you're snapping other makes

Pete - also love the Castle Gates shot.

Wandered off the Berkhampstead today to find a castle for the comp. The Grand Union Canal goes through the town and even though the light was on it's way out I had a go at a few snaps as I was there (would have been rude not to). Weird totem pole statue in the first and a rather full canal in the second. The boat has just gone through heading upstream and you can see the water cascading over the lower gate - there were signs telling the boaters to leave the locks empty to avoid this and by the time I'd got down the steps to the tow-path they'd closed the top gates and opened a lower paddle so it was draining. Will head back in the summer for some more colour.

Cheers Brettus!

Ive been wanting to do those pics for ages, and my new lens allowed it. I was really lucky with the star trails, there was a spot to park and a decent place in the field next door to work. I set the camera going controlled by Triggertrap and sat back in the car. It was nearly zero degrees!

Still a bit bothered by the light pollution. I'll be off to Cumbria in the spring where I've got a shot planned.

Thanks guys, bit of a weird one wandering in the dark with a greatsword but I'd worked out that I could light it pretty effectively with my head torch as it is pretty small so wouldn't show in the image too much.

Sorry to Bluepete for re-using his site so soon but I'd been plotting for a while and Jon had the idea of the sword and having the bridge worked so well with it.

Incidentally, could you guys help me out, I processed the picture on my alienware as usual but when I've come into work the image is surprisingly dark (The same thing happened with my lovell telescope shot) when you view the image can you see the outline of the arch on the wall behind me? or is it all lost to darkness? Thanks

John - your first pic of the village looks so tranquil.

Tom - you're making me hungry!!

Went for a walk around Marlow today as I'd noticed the flooded fields as I passed by on the, er, by-pass earlier in the week. The Thames has made quite a mess of the surrounding countryside and flooded a lot of homes, but then if you're daft enough to buy a house that's very clearly on a flood plain... Or rich enough to afford a river front place in Marlow...

Me, standing in the Thames (technically)
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/IMG_0414a_zps5490fc53.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/IMG_0414a_zps5490fc53.jpg.html)

Not many people enjoying the sun on the patio of the (ubber expensive) Compleat Angler today. And I wonder how worried the Porsche owner is about getting out of the car park
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/IMG_0430a_zps00207d03.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/IMG_0430a_zps00207d03.jpg.html)

And lastly, how much tape do you need to rope off the riverbank? I think you'd notice it going over the top of your wellies before you fall into the river proper, which starts where the boat is moored - it's not quite deep enough to ground the boat on the bank but's it's close. It's lower today apparently compared to two days ago too.

OK back online properly now, Nice pics Trev! haven't been anywhere flooded but that looks rather interesting :)

Admin: If those pictures were from your new phone then I'm very impressed, they look really good! Only lacking the zoom of your Canon.

Bluepete: Nice shots up there! shame no aurora, I'd been wondering about driving north when it was supposed to be kicking off but the polarity wasn't right in the end or something.

Right, well we went off to Sherwood Forest this weekend, stopped off at Clumber Park on Saturday and got a nice shot of the interior of the chapel there:

Yes taken with a Motorola moto g. It's a budget smartphone and the camera has had some criticism. It's not brilliant in low light but better than I expected. Better than nothing when you've not got a camera to hand. I can recommend the rest of the phone too.

whatever digits may be underground or not will only make it less old though. I agree it'd be interesting to know though :)

I'll get our daughter's dog, Kia, to dig it up

This is a bit crappy, but it keeps the thread going. Fitted a new engine onto a customers cement mixer today, so took a picture for our Facebook page.

Did dyscalculia not exist back then? :-)

Actually, that's an interesting one. They used letters. So dyscalculia or dyslexia? I say the former.

It did, although they were all lumped under the much broader term of "eedjits" ;)

Sadly I haven't been anywhere or had any good ideas recently so no pictures from my side of things :(
