Daughter passed her A levels, 2 B's and a C, means she can do what she wants to do and go to Uni.

Lots of hard work on her part, causing her far too much unnecessary stress, so that can all be left behind.

Boo, I'm back at work tomorrow :-(

Stop complaining - you've had three weeks off if I recall.

As my contract is coming to an end I may have a month or two off if I don't find something else to move on to sharpish. I'd rather keep working if I could as it will help fund my nagging wish for a new lens or two from my camera...

We're staying in Matlock tonight on the last couple of nights of our holiday. I texted a mate/former colleague who lives here to ask him for a recommendation for a restaurant. His reply was 'Come to ours, I'll make you a curry'. So Stu and I just had a really nice evening catching up with him and his family, excellent curry, rounded off with a glass of his home made damson gin.

I think back to the last phrases I uttered while riding (directed at useless drivers) and reply no dear, not till you're older. 😀

The extra fittings I ordered for my spaznav holder arrived on Saturday. After puzzling over where best to use and which way round worked best I tried it out today on a super twisty track I let MyDrive work out for me. With the extra articulation pieces it's not rock solid but it was fine - it's also a lot higher, angled more upright and even in bright sunshine it was easy to read the directions. The only downside was the barmy route. Setting it to super twisty took me on bizarre for-the-sake-of-it round the houses routes that almost took me back on myself, several gravel strewn farm tracks and I cancelled the track and just let the nav do its own thing after I had to stop at a ford that was a raging three feet deep according to the marker post. Still, it was certainly a route I had not previously taken to get to Loomies and some of the little villages I went through were very pretty and worth the detours on their own. 7 out of 10 TomTom and now I know not to use that option next time :D.

I went to Brixton Academy tonight, a favorite venue, to see Noel Gallagher. He had Johnny Marr and Paul Weller join him.

When he finished the night with Don't Look Back In Anger I don't think I've ever heard a crowd sing along so vociferously.

The first time I saw Oasis live was when they played a showcase to the staff in the canteen where I worked (Sony Music). We'd just signed them.

Lunch outside with my colleagues in the sunshine. May only be a small smile but it was a lovely day, it's likely to be raining tomorrow, most of them will be shirking from home tomorrow, and it's my last day on this contract tomorrow. So, long way round of saying it was a farewell outdoor lunch with the mad bunch of people here.

Pretty much finished handing everything over now so it's just a final run through of the Friday reports tomorrow to make sure the others have understood it all and I'm out of the door.

Looking forward to a few weeks off now which also brings on a smile, only tempered by a wonder of where I'll end up next.

Just got back from walking the mutt with a big smile on my face. Trundling down the road from Hughenden Valley into High Wycombe was a full size Showman's Engine. When you say traction engine to most people they most likely think of a light steam tractor (LST) which was used for farm work or a road roller but the Showman dwarfs them both. These leviathans were for travelling fairs, covered in lights powered by a generator up front and with a mahoosive flywheel to provide belt-driven movement. This one was chuffing along at a reasonable lick but the queue of cars behind it went way out of sight and was still creeping along when I turned the corner. Just hope all those trapped drivers appreciated such a wonderful glimpse of Victorian engineering as much as I did.

Having had a go on a 1000cc fire breathing beast, I have discovered a few things.
A: I have no self control with limiting my speed. Bad boy. And B: I don't think I would want to ride such a beast everyday commuting. My license wouldn't last very long, or worse still my kids wouldn't have a dad very long.
Still nice to know that at 40 I'll still not a grown up and can behave. Looks like I'll be sticking to my SV for awhile longer, till I can rein it in.

Get yourself a bike with a 675 displacement and no fairing ;-)

I personally think 1,000cc sportsbike are basically pointless in the real world. Unless you enjoy riding at tickover or in 1st or 2nd gear. I like being able to use the engine and sometimes see the needle hit the red line...

I did see the needle hit the red line, 2nd and 3rd, at which point you are entering warp drive - and running out of road. That was the problem.
Didn't try it all the way in first, I wanted both wheels to stay on the ground as it wasn't my bike.
So I too am thinking it'd be pointless in the real world. Too stupid quick when going, yet a heavy brute when filtering at a near stop. It did love those corners though - even with someone with zero confidence in a strange bike.
Shame I just can't kick the feeling of wanting one though...

Mine could appear in gripe or smile of the day but let's be optimistic. Last night I went to Raf's leaving party before he departs the UK to Trumpton, also known as the USA.

We had a great night at Belgo with much Belgian beer and a few enormous wallies (of the pickled cucumber variety).

The gripe is Raf leaving us. But on the upside he's moving close to one of the world's greatest wine regions so I'm already planning my first visit with Coolgirl Debs. [emoji485]

I had my annual appraisal this week. My manager, the Lord's curator, took note earlier this year of my enthusiasm for the planning that goes into each of our exhibitions. Sometimes I use my contacts to obtain items we might want from cricketers, but mostly I take the pictures and push our media team to do some promotion.

During my review he said he wants me to plan and curate a photography exhibition to tie in with the West Indies team coming next summer along with some associated special events.

The photographer covered the West Indies for years and is now retired so this would be a retrospective of West Indies cricket through his photos.

It's an exciting project. Lots of work and a big learning curve for me but I'm really chuffed that I've been asked to do it.

I can start the planning while I'm stuck at home with my leg in plaster for the next fortnight.

I gave my 4 year old niece a Hotel Chocolat white chocolate red caramel filled oozy eyeball to eat. She tried to put the whole thing in her mouth but didn't like the caramel and dribbled it all down her chin, over her dad's foot and my father in law's cream rug.

My sister in law said I'd only been in the house 2 minutes and look at the mess I'd created.

Trouble was me and the niece just got the giggles and that made her dribble more.

yup well chuffed at that result. British Gas on the other hand are complete muppets and cant use a calculator or even send bills out. 3 times i have been on the phone with the last one being 1 1/4hrs.
Been there done this. After the 4th wrong bill and subsequent long phone call, I told them to either get it right or I wasn't going to pay.

I got passed around every debt collection agency in the country who would very politely phone me up about it, I'd explain the situation and show them the evidence, and they'd drop the case. British Gas would then pass me on to the next one. So I eventually told the collection agencies to do one as well. Not heard anything since.

Overall, a lot of hassle for a company that can't seem to copy & paste numbers without getting mixed up.

My smile...

Walking the dog in the autumn sun under colourful trees and listening to https://www.ted.com/talks/margaret_heffernan_why_it_s_time_to_forget_the_pec king_order_at_work.

Inspiring afternoon.

I'm employed again. Got a call yesterday while wandering through the supermarket, interviewed this morning, start tomorrow. I've been searching just over a month and that's just the way it seems to happen in my line of work. The only odd thing is they need me to provide my own pc - never had that happen before so a quick trip to PC World and I have now finished setting up my shiny new HP Envy and Office 2016. Bring it on.

Went into Homebase to buy an 8mm drill bit, came out with a 18v Bosch cordless drill, which was half price!

Didn't get the drill bit, as they were out of stock, but as both my cordless drills are knackered, then this was a result.

Saw my neighbour and he's lent me the drill bit :-)

Had a go on a KTM Freeride E-SX and I gotta say I was impressed, the lack of noise is a little disturbing but riding one on an indoor MX track was a complete hoot. I'm still slow and carp off road but it was great.

The torque off the motor was a bit strange but hey ho.

I'd definitely say give one a go if you get the chance.

After months of practice and learning (and one heck of a lot of driving him and sometimes his horse to lessons) youngest has finally passed uis Pony Club C+ test atfer a 4 1/2 hour exam which now means that he is qualified to look after his horse whist I am somewhere on the property but not directly supervising him, just there for advice, a bit like GCSE in horse. Well done him, although he now wants to do his B test which is like A level horse. I have told him not yet some practice and learning required before that.
