Back on topic. My smile of the day is that whilst writing the above I remembered the look on my sons face after I had let him loose on my GSXR track bike for the first time...... Priceless!

Sounds like I'm thinking the right way, and maybe get her insured on our little Suzuki just to get her NCD started.

painful it might be money wise, but the cars paid for.

Red Herring

Worth checking to see if she can still build a NCB as a named driver on your existing policy, I've heard some companies will do that, especially if you have been with them a while and they are likely to get her business when she gets her own car.

Thanks, we're currently with Admiral on a multi car policy, although we only switched last year.

Worth checking out I think

We gave my daughter my wife's 1.9 Fabia diesel when she was 17 and insured it in her name so she started a NCD straight away. We got her a couple of lessons early on with a school just so she had an idea of what they were after and then she did 90% of her "learning" in the Fabia driving us around. We gave her back to the school for a few more lessons before her test and she passed first time, in their car. My wife then had to buy a new car as she'd lost the old one!

We tried similar with my son however he was a bit keener (like he bought a car a month before his 17th birthday and I had to take him for his first drive at one minute past midnight....). He passed the theory part of the test on his birthday and tried to get a cancellation practical for the next day, but fortunately we talked him out of that and he had to wait a month! The irony was it actually took him four attempts to pass his practical, (you can just imagine the stick his sister gave him....) as he just got so nervous in the school car and made silly mistakes. In the end he did it in his own car and went straight through with only a single "minor".

did my test after only 6 lessons in my own car (no power steering and only 4 forward gears too), just practised tons with my mum in the passenger seat.

I think there is a certain satisfaction at doing it in your own car, but I do think it's wise to get a few lessons with a professional even if just to learn what is expected on test.

Did a similar thing as Chris.

But I had to unlearn the bad habits were I been driving before.
My capri only had 4 gears like most cars in them days Chris.
But it definitely needed traction control!!

Smile of the day - Transferring my insurance on the VFs to Carole Nash and seeing it drop to £154 a year fully comp, for 4 bikes with no mileage restrictions and no excess.
Saved me over £1000 a year, so understandably happy.

Red Herring
04-03-15, 09:39 AM
That's a bit of a result, no wonder you're smiling. Out of interest do you know if the limit is four bikes on a single policy, or can they cover more?

atassiedevil
04-03-15, 09:41 AM
They can cover more.
It's a classic policy, so will cover bikes 20-30 years old.
I'll be adding another bike once i sort out it's Q plate to a proper age related plate.
So, in total that will be 5 bikes.
VF1100C (V65 Magna)
VF1000F2 (Bol D'Or)
VF750F
VF500F2

So yes, very very happy!

I've just rejected Amazon and Wex to spend £7000 at my local independent camera shop. Friendly, knowledge staff, prices the same or cheaper than the faceless online retailers but proper customer service and a free tripod strap and hugely discounted filters thrown into the package. I'm probably their favorite customer of the week. Anyway, MCC now owns some decent photographic kit and I get to take my own gear home for my own use full time at last.

I ordered some stuff on-line from a site I have used before, but forgot to update the address to my new house... The DPD tracker reports my parcel is refused (because of my old address) but the fecker knows where I live and it is only just round the corner (maybe a 2 minute walk). He was an awkward fecker buying my old house and continues to meet my low opinion of him.... :smt068

After my gripe.... Customer service at both the on-line retailer and DPD were great, parcel is held at the depot and address now updated. They will deliver to my corrected address tomorrow. Not only efficient, but nice folks to talk to as well! Made me smile anyway :D

Good on you for buying local.
Now you have people that can help you out if you have a problem and most of all, keeps that money in the local economy so not only that store profits, but all the stores they shop as well, vs going to some big companies bank account to likely be spent overseas.

I wouldn't go to another Hyde Park Fest, by the time the headline act get on stage its just full of drunken idiots who want to fight. You can't get near the stage, the video screens are carp & the sound is poor.

The drunks make constant trips to the alcohol stores & just irritate you as you're trying to watch the show.

Cool

When the Foos played Mr LPH said the sound was poor. When I saw Soundgarden it was better, though that wasn't as busy. This time I'm going straight from the Ashes in Nottingham so won't get there until later on. I can wiggle my way towards the front and as for fighting with the drunks... That was a The Levellers tour, I worked for their tiny record label. That was back in the days when I didn't seem to need sleep, and thought it quite normal to travel to Newcastle, Portsmouth, Norwich or Bristol for the evening to get to a gig then travel back to London in the early hours of the morning and be at my desk for 10am! For sure don't want to infringe on anything those 1%'ers call their territory.
They kill people for that. (seriously)

A group of these claim a town in the mountains near where I go on holiday sometimes.
I had no idea until I once happened to stop at a restaurant there.
Got to the door and they asked any patches on your jacket?
I had one small patch from a group I rode with at the time (with no rocker patch) and they asked me to take it off and leave it outside on the bike as they didn't want anyone murdered inside their establishment.
Needless to say I avoid that area now even with no patches on my jacket!
So 1%ers is out.

And now there's a group calling themselves the III%ers.
These are the preparing for doomsday paramilitary type gun nutters.
Haven't happened upon any of these yet but there are some nearby so probably best to steer clear of them as well.

Oddly enough I was invited by a mate via Facebook to a breakfast and rideout just this past Saturday but when I checked out the guy in charge, he was wearing a III%ers shirt and hat in his profile pic.
Er... sorry, maybe next time.

So much for 3 %.
How about 2% or perhaps even 2.25% just to be on the safe side. ;)

most patch wearers are actually very nice respectable people its the 1% of the 1%rs that are complete feking arz wipes but when your a brother your a brother and you will do what is required to protect your brother. you also have to remember that a loot of people who join chapters are misfits/loners etc.etc in society and when enticed to join a group of people and become part of the family they do so with open arms as it then give them purpose in life.

that sounds like a cracking start to the day Bri.

Damn quick those things. Faster to 50mph than an M3. Enjoy upsetting people in it.

I've just had my invite through to a West End premiere in July of a film I have backed about the Maasai Warriors cricket team. As well as helping in a small way to fund it, I also managed to get them into Lord's to film part of it which they loved. Now I finally get to see the finished product which in the week of the Australia Test match at work will be some welcome relief from a crazy time.
