My body clock just does not understand Saturdays. I'm always awake by 6 as that's programmed in to me as getting-up-for-work time and I can never get back to sleep. Well, today I had the day to myself and the weather forecast was cloudy but warm and dry all day so I headed out towards the south coast. Hayling Island seafront was deserted so there was plenty of space in the cafe where I stopped off and had brekkie.

Popped in to Loomies on the way back for a cuppa and got chatting to the Royal British Legion bikers who had a marquee in the car park. They hunted through their box of goodies for me. Yes, they did have just one poppy-shaped sidestand puck left so that was a result! Been trying to get one for ages after seeing them at a show and suggesting Lady Poppy (yes it is a bit of a spooky coincidence) get me one for my Chrimbo stocking from their website, which was closed by the time she went to have a look...

Then it rained on and off for the last 20 miles home which is a shame as Hugh has never seen rain before today. Nice morning out anywho :D

Sounds like a top day Sir Trev

I get confused as to what day of the week it is since i retired. It doesn't help that the days I do work vary so there's no routine to follow.

There's been a mini crime wave in my town recently, several cars broken into and petty thefts.
Guess what. Got the ba$tards on my CCTV, man walking across my garden to try the very well locked gates at the side, and a female coming onto the drive to look into the car to see if there was anything worth pinching (there wasn't), this at 5.30 on a Sunday morning. Police know who they are from the footage. They will be helping with their enquiries shortly.

I fitted some cameras last year, people have got so used to (not to mention bl00dy annoyed by) regular false alarms from various houses by us that people never even look now when one goes off.

After my gripe of the day (http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=3090632&postcount=6254) last week things are improving. Caught up on my sleep a bit, got out for a good run (http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=3090771&postcount=307)with an old friend this morning, my friends dog has gone home, and I have sensible levels of work organised for next week, with the possibility of a regular stint of 2 days a week part time.:)

which means Mr Bibs can go on jollys when he is better

only gripe is i only get 22 days a year but is split into two lots of 11 days allocation each 6 months. good news is i can split that into long weekends. even better news is that some care homes do pick up and drop off service which means i dont have to waste days with transporting Mrs Bibs

I know what a battle this can be, a friend went through this recently with his wife who suffers from MS.

I'm sure I'll have the same battle one day for my wife who also has MS but luckily I'm fit enough to look after her but that won't be the case forever.

the respite was the easy part.. its the Occupational Therapists/Fife Council who are causing me problems due to Mrs Bibs having unusual disability's and as such refusing to install the proper equipment in our home e.g. a bath with a permanent chair lift, their excuse is that they only fit wet room showers and not baths. the other is a suitable stair lift which Mrs Bibs is able to use herself, instead they want to cut a hole in my living room ceiling and put a lift in taking up fair old chunk of the space in my living room and upstairs bedroom.... ermm fek right off.

Their suggestions were awful and would have wrecked our house, plus the costs were ridiculous. We did it ourselves in the end and still have a nice looking home.

You can always spot the council adapted houses around here. Big ugly ramps of solid concrete with nasty metal railings.

There are hundreds of cats in shelters. Black ones are the hardest to re home. After losing Iggle I decided that I had room for another furry friend and Piggle might like a little brother. He needs to settle in and Piggle hasn't met him yet, but this fellow now has a forever home. He just needs a name but with his huge ears, I'm thinking Batfink suits him.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180824/245fadca71ed202f511a29362b9f2a36.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180824/a77714d7b216eaa350fc949623a81fb7.jpg

I recommend every male on here goes for a prostate check. My friend of 50 years went for one, only thing he had was a bit of trouble with was having to get up in the night for a wee a few times, nothing else,He discovered he had inoperable prostate cancer and has gone through all the scans etc and is waiting for an appointment at Sheffield’s Western Park hospital for his radio therapy to start sometime this month!luckilly he won’t need chemotherapy at the moment. So please see your doctor ASAP, !!!

only thing he had was a bit of trouble with was having to get up in the night for a wee a few times, nothing else

that's why I made the decision, I've noticed an increase in frequency (which can be caused by an enlarged prostate too). It was part of my yearly health insurance check up in the US, I wish the importance was stressed a bit more here.

The bad thing about the PSA test is its inaccuracy, giving false positives and negatives. One thing they didn't tell me in the US is no strenuous exercise nor sex (fat chance!) 48 hours before the test (it makes it more accurate).

Eat more tomatoes (they help prostate health).

Sir Trev
19-09-18, 12:54 PM
Good advice here. My dad was found to have an elevated PSA on his first test at about 60, which lead to the dreaded diagnosis, radiotherapy, operations, medication... If it had been found earlier it would have been much less of an issue. As it can be hereditary I have been tested and all seems good so far but it will be a retest every two or three years from now on.

Don't be proud, stubborn, pathetic or scared gentlemen - GET YOURSELVES CHECKED. You do not have to wait until you are a certain age and it can even be an advantage to be seen a little earlier, before the very common symptoms of an age-related enlarged prostate begin to muddy the waters.

+1

Frequent pizzing is a classic sign of diabetes as body tries to dump sugar.

Having trouble passing urine or low flow can be a bad sign as enlargement of prostate for any reason can squeeze urethra and restrict flow.

When I was 62 I went to the doctor for something else and he suggested, given my age, that I should start having annual PSA tests. For 3 years they came back in the normal range but in 2014 I had an annual test, a 6 month test and a 3 month test because the levels were rising above normal. I was referred to the hospital for tests and had a urine flow test and the finger of fate followed by an MRI scan which showed a quarter of the prostate was cancerous but it was all confined within it. I was offered an immediate operation but decided on radiation treatment instead: seven weeks of daily treatments starting in early 2015.

Afterwards my PSA was nil. Six monthly checks show a slow rise with the aim of it not being higher than 2.5 but the last one last week was only 0.5.

I am convinced that the advice my doctor gave me has saved my life. I wouldn't have started the tests without his advice as there is no history of prostate cancer in my family.

SV650rules
19-09-18, 08:20 PM
Drinking tea and coffee, ( which are diuretics ) can make urine more concentrated and trigger the bladder to urinate ( a small amount of concentrated urine has same affect as much larger volume of more dilute urine as a trigger ). Not drinking enough water and having concentrated urine is bad for prostate.

At least you don't feel like someone has parked a chilled Ford Fiesta up your chuff them poked around up there with a sharp stick. Welcome to smear tests.

I had a routine test at 22, had no symptoms but some pre cancerous cells were found. I had surgery and have been all clear ever since. But nowadays they don't test you until you are 25. Had I waited that long my cells would have already been advanced like Jade Goody.

Sure it's not the most fun way to spend 20 minutes but I prefer that to visiting the dentist. Get your wives to get a regular test.

You are absolutely right. All over the world "we" are sick of professional politicians. You only have to look at Trump, Emmanuel Macron who came from seemingly nowhere and the last two Italian elections. If our politicians want to remain credible they need to get out of the little bubble they live in and join our world and speak our language. Two different examples of the Bubble effect 1 DC giving the public a brexit referendum sure and safe in the knowledge the vote would be yes, 2 the banning of sale of battery acid except by licenced traders and sale by post, do they really believe the thieving scum buy it new when the rest of us know they just steal another moped or go to the scrap yard.

I used to be a republican before RR then I realised that our voters could do just the same given the opportunity to elect our head of state.

yes but at least he does it openly. whether he is right or wrong he is trying to get the USA back on its feet which is no easy task considering the current state of world wide affairs.

i really dont get this whole media slandering of Trump.. he is the president of America whether you or i like it or not. i personally think its fekin hilarious what he gets upto.

slander: the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation.

...only they are not false statements. You could accuse them of hanging onto his every word looking for a slip up, but they don't usually have to wait for long.

He is a destabilising factor, it takes a lot to rile Canadians (they say sorry more than we do) but Trump's succeeded with the whole NAFTA thing:
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/canadian-officials-mulling-attack-u-s-pharma-says-ottawa-lawyer-165038690.html.

He puts tariffs on EU metal products (threatens others) and then says we should help him against China. Meanwhile US steel is about to go on strike because the workers haven't had a pay rise in years whilst their bosses have. So much for tarifffs helping the US steel industry. Takes the US out of the Paris agreement and says global warming is a myth, claims the US needs coal, gets the EPA to relax regulations on everything from disposal of coal slurry, to methane release at wellheads, to mining in public parks. Guts Obamacare and replaces it with...still waiting. Gives tax breaks to corporations and now complains that the deficit is too high and he may need to cut social security (pensions) and medicare.

I'm ranting...sorry. No more Trump from me in "smile of the day"... (gets down off soapbox).

you would make a great reporter for the daily mail... :-)

+1

In some people's eyes Trump is not right even when he is, ( they have a blind hatred that 'he dared to become president when it was Hillaries turn ) they love to attack the man and ignore what he is trying to do. O'Barmy drew up the list of countries that Trump used in his initial immigration ban, obarmy also holds the record of any POTUS for deporting people, also split up families who crossed Mexican US border illegally ( because you cannot put kids in adult jails ) but no one criticised him.

As one Trump supporter said, "he made his money and then became president, others did it the other way around".

Grabbing a few days in Devon, the hotel upgraded us to a three bedroom suite and gave us a discount because the room we we meant to have was being refurbished and wasn't quite finished in time. Blowing a gale but the outdoor pool is heated to 29° and the indoor sauna and Jacuzzi are fab.

My hard as nails, never shows any emotions, eldest daughter gave me a hug today, first one in years, as we said goodbye as she started university today.

She even had a tear in her eye, my wife had loads.

She'll be hugging you lots more over the next three years as soon as she realises how little cash she has left...

Very good Mr Rules. The Monkey is 21 now, graduated this year and got a full time job earlier in the summer. I was chuffed to bits a few months ago when she told me I could stop the monthly standing order I'd been paying into her account for the duration of her studies. I can put that cash towards toys now. Yay.

The front garden at Tapley Towers is in a bit of a state. The drive needed re-tarmacing so I've taken the opportunity to have the water mains pipe renewed. The old pipe has clearly been getting more and more clogged over the years.
The new pipe was connected today and what a difference to the pressure it has made. Such a small thing but it's brought a huge smile to my face.

nice one John :-)

we had all the mains flushed last year and since then the pressure has been a nightmare as it now runs normal then all of a sudden you get a burst of pressure which usually results in me getting soaked... lol

best water pressure i have ever had the misfortune of dealing with is in Lower Largo, when fitting a washing machine you have to install a ballafix and set it to almost fully off. turning a garden hose on results in 20ft fountain.. lol

You can get pressure reducer valve to reduce incoming pressure and maintain a constant pressure ( mount near to stop tap ), our whole house has hot and cold water ( pressurised hot water tank) at 3 bar ( 45 psi ) which is ideal and means a power shower does not need a pump.

Thank goodness houses have been fitted with plastic water pipes from water company stop tap to house for quite a while now, they don't corrode and block up and are flexible enough that they don't crack with soil movement - progress......

I had to fit a reducer to our villa in Turkey. The mains pressure was so high that it hurt if you put your hand under the cold tap when it was fully open. The reducer brought the pressure down to a more reasonable level.

Have to go to Aberystwyth tomorrow to deliver my little portable studio to a friend for repair. Weather forecast gives wall to wall sunshine and 17°C so I think that means I'll be going on the bike then. :-D

Had a day out to the coast as Lady Poppy was off seeing her dad and I could trundle around at my own pace. Took the train unfortunately as the weather forecast was carp and sure enough I got soaked after 14:30 but I had a cracking walk along the Essex coast from Southend to Shoeburyness and found quite a lot of geocaches along the way. Feel shattered now and you don't realise how sh1te the old/noisy rolling stock is on your home line until you spend the day on a more modern line but it was a nice day out.

Sat in shorts and t-shirt, cup of coffee in hand, watching the sun rise over the sea. A few clouds about, and a breeze blowing up the valley. Don't you just love life!
