Who says there are no real castles in the US??
My wife's brother in law recently aquired a large castle so we borrowed it for the granddaughter's birthday party.
I think eveyone there (adults and children) ended up having a go in it.
Quite fun!!!

Haven't you heard???
EVERYONE in California is a phony! :p
Edit: I should explain that the state of California and it's residents are not thought highly of in most other parts of the US.
Example: This year California will soon be facing a devastating water shortage. If this were any other state the public would be rallying to help the people there. When it's mentioned however, even by National news agencys, the concern is the rising prices of produce grown there for the rest of the US.

We have similar issues here, I won't go into detail for fear of offending the people from that area, although we've not got that many active Orgers from that part of the UK.
My Uncle's not a native Californian, he was born here, so perhaps not as bad as you're average resident? Although I understand where you're coming from Bill :D

Was a warm afternoon, the sun was shining so went for a little 100 mile spin on the bike.
The roads were deserted. I have no idea where everyone was.
Went nearly 30 miles (and through 2 small villages) without seeing another person or car on the road.
It was like a movie where everyone else had vanished. Very strange for such a beautiful day.
However as always, that seems to bring out the bad in me and so was a ton up ride, me making full use of the the few long straights along the way.
Stopped at a biker pub for a bite to eat.
Nice crowd there, 70's rock playing loud, some pretty girls, good food.
Almost hated to leave but an enjoyable ride back with only a few cars seen.
Great afternoon on the bike, could have only been better if I'd made the whole day of it.

Had a NHS "MoT" this morning but what made me smile was the trainee nurse having to put up with the regular nurse who was meant to be observing. After the third interruption to re-explain something I had already understood we got to the blood sample bit and I was suggesting "left a bit, right a bit" to her as the needle headed towards the vein and she twigged I was taking the pee out of her mentor. She was half giggling and missed the vein, which annoyed the regular nurse so I distracted her with a question about the follow up appointment when attempt #2 was going in on the other arm so the new girl could just get on with it. I then made them both laugh by suggesting the 15mm round plasters I now had on both arms were far too large and were they wasting my taxes?
In two weeks time I'll probably be posting on the Gripe thread about the regular nurse getting her own back when I go back for the results consultation. My money is on a lecture about being overweight but then the nurse isn't exactly Kate Moss herself so that might be entertaining on it's own.

Oh I don't know, this might be like taking my huge cats to the vet for their booster. The very skinny Spanish vet is lovely but says that my boys need to lose a few pounds. The normal weight Spanish male vet says they are fine as long as they don't get any bigger and take some exercise. The chubby English lady vet who is the shape of a Weeble says they are not fat, they are cuddly, just like her!

Got any black powder?
I used to make black powder back when I was a lad! Once, we collected all the spray paint cans we could and stuck them in the ground upside down, spaced apart in a field. One spoonful of powder in the concave end, lots of matches and some seriously loud explosions later, the field was covered in a technicolour mess of paint and shrapnel!
Ah, happy days, just don't ask about the .22 blanks and home made napalm.

We would take a quart size empty mayonnaise jar and fill it up level across the top with petrol. (can't have any air space) then light it. ( it will only burn across the top) get back a ways and shoot the jar with a 22 or a pellet gun.
Produces a nice mushroom cloud of fire that looks like a atomic bomb going off. It's a wonder we weren't killed by the glass shrapnel! !!

A 'working lunch' with our new Chief Information Officer (which makes him sound like a spy). 10 minutes discussing work, then the next 2 hours chatting about biking matters. He currently owns an 1198s and at 6'4" I cannot see how that is comfortable.

Seeing a rather pompous biker almost learning a very painful lesson! Using your narrowness to pass a car waiting to turn right is one of the joys of biking but when it's a staggered junction and you don't look ahead to see the car already emerging from your left... This guy was ignoring the speed limit (built up area), overtaking on the white line forcing oncoming cars to swerve towards the curb and jinking left at the last second so the emerging car could not see him until they were well out into the road. He only just avoided slamming into them and hopefully had to change his undies as a consequence.
Before anyone says anything the car driver did nothing wrong here - the traffic was stopped to their right and the bike was not visible so they set off on their own left turn. I've been in the same situation and had an irate speeding biker shout at me after I moved out onto an empty road only to have this moron scream round a blind bend thirty yards or more away with knee almost on the deck. Cars don't have radar that allows them to see what's coming round a corner or through a van waiting to turn right so if you can't see them they can't see you (and sometimes when they should have seen you they don't!)
A bit like the cycling deaths thread there is no point being pompous if it kills you. Hopefully this guy learned a lesson.

Mine is getting tickets to the Blur warm up show in Llandudno which in itself was lucky as it's a tiny venue. But because it's such a long way and it's Stu's birthday that week we've decided to take a few days off and turn it into a holiday. We'll go from North Wales through Snowdonia to the south then home via Glastonbury tor. If the weather is nice we'll go on the bikes.
Just before I went on holiday a month ago I lost my wallet with £35 and all my credit cards in on my way home on the bike. Now I'm back, I went to Norwich police station to report the loss only to find that it had been found. When I collected it from the finder, everything was still there.
