Out on this weapon. It's been a month or two and my muscle memory for it has totally gone. Bit of a shock trying to wrangle it and make it behave.

Location scouting for other plans in the pipeline too :-)

Lots of byways near us.. mostly gravel. The Fosse Way and loads over Wiltshire way. It's going to be my economical commuter too (80ish mpg apparently!) so can't go too extreme on the tyres. The Michelin Siracs on there are not far off new either, so might have to stay with them for a while. Any budget is going into sprocket swaps and an EJK to give it a little more bite. That and getting some brake pads in it that actually work. Short test ride out this evening was a bit scary when I realised how bad the brakes are! Good job it doesn't get up to speed very quickly. :-)

Electronic Jetting Kit. Similar to a power commander but simpler just affects fuelling at a few throttle levels, not timing etc.

Really don't want brakes that are too sharp on an off-roader, 'scary' is when you ride knobblies on wet tarmac.......... :o you just have to adjust to not stopping or cornering as quick, luckily off-roaders are lighter than road bikes, but also taller ( I have had a few but the 35 inch+ seat height does not suit my vertically challenged legs ).

There is literally nothing happening with the front brake right now. It feels like someone has oiled the pads and the rotor looks oily too. Taking it apart to have a look. New pads ordered.

+ I've never accidentally hit the rev limiter on other bikes. Has happened a few times on this one already :-)

I was shocked how quickly my Suzuki DRZ400 would gain revs - and the low gearing makes it easy to hit rev limit in lower gears... nice bike but as I said too tall for me.

Smile from a few days ago. I finally managed to contact the DVLA and get tax paid on the GSXR. They have stopped issuing any new V5 documents for the foreseeable future but you can tax with the VIN on the phone to them.

So still no V5 for it, but I can use it.

I've turned into 'one of those' cyclists from the other threads. Doing about 6,000 miles a year under my own steam. I'm fitter than I've ever been, stopped smoking the lot.

I went from being a supremely confident rider to not trusting myself due to lack of miles and trying to do the same speeds, I became a danger. So to save my life I sold the Street R and a guy from Inverness got to love her.

I miss riding motorbikes every so often but not that much. Weird how things change. I only bought a bike because I wasn't fitting in my leathers and now I don't even try to get in them.

Maybe 2020 will be the year people use their bikes least, causing a forum resurgance and orginastion of more rideouts - making 2021 the year people use their bikes most.

Or maybe we'll just quibble over which generation of SV looks best and why bourbons are the superior biscuit.

The bourbon is inferior in every way (taste, texture and dunkability) to the chocolate hobnob. Extra diabetes points for the caramel ones.

Only dunkability is inferior but you have an ample 3 seconds until disintegration territory which is plenty of time to reap the double choclatey returns. Smooth and squidy texture with no healthy, gritty oat bits leaving you with a mouth like a washed up castaway.

120 ish miles on the CRF today. Seems to be ok for longer journeys (avoiding motorways). Even with the currently dodgy front forks. Mostly with the throttle pinned and plenty of bouncing off the rev limiter / working the gears to get up to national limits. It does ok for a 250! 6th gear is pretty useless (shift into it at 65mph and you actually start slowing down) so going to play with alternative sprocket(s). Best tank was 106mpg and worst has been 65mpg. Currently averaging 76mpg! I'm sure that will change once I install the fuel trickery box.

That snow shovel needs to go. and then investigate a suitable alternative screen, its current job is to blow the breeze into my face.

Seat cowl ordered, rear pegs already off. I have bikes to get away from my wonderful generous wife. not take her with me. She keeps talking sidecars, listened in when the insurers asked about mods and mentioned side car.

the last time I drove one of them was a Cossack Ural in ......1978 with the chair on the wrong side to scare the passenger.

I have already worked out that the disc lock fills the available storage. meaning dry days only as no room for the plastic romper suit.

I actually have a rack for the little gixxer so maybe that is still my away day toy. Seriously though I have looked at the silly touring package, Doesn't help that my gobby SIL has a bandit 1250 with the full set up. I explain I do away with decent hotels and arrange for them to send on my luggage, obviously after they launder it.

Daughter is buying me a R&G tail tidy for my birthday. Gobby SIL say "I would have told them to fit it in the cost", and the hugger and the seat cowl and the screen. Then says, I came here to look at a bike and they wouldn't do a deal!

When I changed job to one across the road I regretted not commuting more.

Hopefully future gainful employment suits some sort of a commute

I've had experience of working at home, near home and anything up to two hours commute over the years. Have got to say that being at or near home leads to feeling a bit trapped in one place after a while but equally the sheer waste of time a 45 minute commute brings, coupled with a long and stressful day, means I am so tired by the time I get home I'm no use for anything. Being locked down for the last three months means I now work more regular hours, as I'm not hanging about at work waiting for the traffic volumes to reduce before setting off home and saving a fortune in petrol and wear and tear on the car. Plus I can go straight into the garden as soon as I turn the laptop off. On balance I'd rather be pretty close to home.

Chris_SVS
30-06-20, 07:26 PM
Yeah I get that Trev. Went from 17mi commute to just under 1mi but now I'd love something somewhere in the middle. Far enough to warrant getting the Tracer out and a decent cycle each way

I don't want much

timwilky
02-07-20, 01:31 PM
I work from the bottom of the garden, even known to log in, in my PJs, after checking email on tablet whilst still in bed. But sunny days there is nothing wrong with an early morning commute to put me in the frame of mind to do a days work when I get home. and the 30 mile commute home from the bottom of the garden at the end of the day.

First pint in a pub and first meal out in four months. Went to see The Munchkin in Brighton yesterday and stopped over at a nearby hotel. Both the pub and especially the restaurant were very quiet so not many people want to be out and about just yet, not too surprisingly. The hotel was almost deserted. Was very difficult not being able to give her a hug though! Kept well away from the seafront and town centre and as it was such a lovely start to the day there was a LOT of traffic heading in to town as we were on our way home this morning.

First cricket match of the year, so good to be back out there playing, can't wait for league cricket to start next week now!

We have a local club cricket pitch nearby, and they played their first match on Saturday. You can hear the firm smack of willow on leather* and appeals to the ump from our house, it was very pleasing to have that soundtrack to a sunny day again.

10 times mileage put on the odometer.

Yesterday morning 12. when I got home from first ride 123.

So different cornering sat upright. I must have done it in the 70s but forgotten and at one point felt I had to push down on what naturally would have been taken faster smoother on the GSXR. So yes learning the new bike.

First panic still on drive, started it and two lights on. ABS and traction control, oh poo faults already! But immediately cleared as I moved. I really should read the manual.

Lowered gearing on the CRF250L and the gearing now makes so much more sense. Haven't tried it at NSL yet and imagine it's going to be revving a bit up there! But it's not really for that and dropping a tooth on the front and going up 2 on the rear has put all the gears in perfect place for use around town and B roads. Supposedly better for off-road too.

I think to make sure it gets up to 70mph without feeling like it's revving too much and also, yes, economy. 6th gear was totally useless though. You'd get up to 70mph in 5th, shift to 6th and it would gradually slow down again even with the throttle wide open. 1st gear had no pulling power either. Now it feels much more like it has a bit of grab to the throttle instead of feeling spongey.

Saw a original MV Augusta 750 being ridden, yes ridden on the road this afternoon.

Couldn't take and pictures as I was driving, but it made a lovely sound.

Good to see it being ridden instead of being tailored about to shows!
