Evening Mav and Geo. Hope it was a good trip.
Yes Gary, I went to see Sam Fender in concert.
Bizarrely cheaper to fly and stay over night in Berlin, than see him in the UK, even if I could have got a ticket. All sold out here until next year's tour
He's the freshest new music I've heard in a long time.
Check out Hypersonic Missiles video. It's my kind of music, still rocking at 58

What a horrible, grey day. Dark till late in the morning, dark again by 4.30 this afternoon, and the middle bit was dim and grey too. And I had to go to a funeral of someone who started as a client and became something of a friend.
Going to find a large cardboard box, fill it with straw, climb in and set the alarm clock for the start of April. :-(
Sir Trev
22-11-19, 07:09 PM
Sorry to hear about the funeral Gary. And I agree about the weather.
garynortheast
23-11-19, 01:11 PM
Thanks Trev. It's ok about the funeral; it wasn't entirely unexpected but a shame he passed away. No great age by todays reckoning at 82.
The service took place in St Mary's Church in Welshpool, a building I've passed several times a week for more than three decades but never been inside. It's quite stunning in the church, very large with huge stained glass windows and the feel of a cathedral rather than a local church in a small borders market town. Worth a quick look if you're over that way at some point.
As for the weather; it's as grey, drizzly, and miserable today as it was yesterday.
Sir Trev

The neighbours now think I'm even more nuts. Have just washed both cars in the drizzling rain. Had new tyres fitted to Lady Poppy's car this morning and the finger marks Kwik Fit left in the dirt on the rims was irritating me enough to just get on with it.

Been loving Sam Fender. Been playing him in the club I DJ in. Hypersonic Missiles & Will We Talk both stink of Springsteen...and that is no bad thing in my opinion!
is it just me or is the the old crew gettin old and ermm well.. you know.. i think its time for an old/new crew get together.. ?

I need to get out for a run. It's been nearly three weeks now. The events of the last few weeks have rather taken over. I need a run to keep my head straight.
It's great being able to get out with your kids. Eleri and I will be out for three days between now and Christmas playing music at several of the markets around North Wales and the borders.

My stress is all work related right now and I picked up my guitar for the first time in ages the other day when I got home. Don't know why I didn't do it sooner as I soon felt a lot better. I can't play for toffee but mucking about with the multi-effect pedal to make silly noises for half an hour made me feel much better.

Evening Gary. Sorry if you can smell me from your side of The Isles but I have been cleaning out the pond. What a pong. Plus I had to sift through the overgrown oxygenating weeds i hoiked out to rescue all of the mayfly nymphs (or whatever they were) that would otherwise have died. Got a sore back now but last time I did this, two years ago, we ended up with a much clearer pond come the spring which attracted newts. Nice. Resting now with a medicinal *cough* rum.

The board-game-mad boyfriend of our daughter is with us for a few days and we dug out a Dr Who interactive game we've not played for years. The Tardis didn't work so we opened up the back and.... oh my, I've never seen batteries so badly corroded! Chris is also an electrical engineer and tried very hard with my soldering iron and a reel of cable we found in the garage but to no avail. We had to make the whooping noises ourselves and you know, after a few drinks, it really didn't matter!

Some rays of light in the darkness at the moment.
My daughter with the depression/anxiety/mental health issues has been going to college but not classes. She's been using college as a social thing, but the academic side is what is causing her much of her mental anguish.
So to that end I arranged a meeting on Tuesday last with the curriculum manager and Sioned’s tutor and they agreed that she was mentally not in the right place to continue for now. They said she should take a break and when and if she wanted to come back and continue her studies, just let them know and she’d be very welcome and helped with her return.
Now bearing in mind that she’s missed huge amounts of work over the last few months and stands no chance of catching up this side of the A level exams..... my wife, who was also present at the meeting, then asked if there was any possibility that she could sit the A levels in April and May! Wtf! Was she not listening to the discussion? Sioned had already told the college folk what she wanted to do, that she wanted to work in some sort of horticultural environment for the next year to gain some experience and then apply for a horticultural apprenticeship with the Historic and Botanic Gardens Trainee Scheme (https://hbgtp.org.uk/). The college people thought this was an excellent idea and agreed with Sioned and me that it was the best way forward. The result was that my wife then spoke to me even less than she normally does because she failed to get her way, her desire for which paid scant regard to the consequences for my daughters mental well being.
Anyway, Sioned has finished with college for now and the difference in her was almost immediately noticeable, with both the fear of exams, and the weight of her mothers academic expectations removed. On the Wednesday morning she happily got involved in preparations for growing stuff in her own veg plot, followed by a trip to a couple of plant nurseries and garden centres to see about some work, both of which look like bearing fruit.
On Friday I took her for her counselling appointment, the first of a series of sessions of CBT. At the end her counsellor came out with her and was amazed at the difference in her.
The icing on the cake of all this is that after around a year of not playing any music, or even getting her instrument out of the case, twice in the last two days she has played tunes on her flute with Eleri and me, and the first time in particular was at her instigation. That tells me that she's definitely on the up and up. I was so happy that we all sat together again to make music.
Things are generally better too as I have now accepted that my wife and I are parting, and in fact I just want to get on with it and have it over and done with so that I can get on with my life (and my veg plot!).

Spare a thought for the Red Kites. Here in the Chilterns we have hundreds of them wafting along on the thermals all day. They have short talons and beaks plus they're large and not that agile, so they're hopeless hunters and get most of their food from roadkill. With so few vehicles on the road right now they must be starting to get hungry. They've been known to horrify townie picnickers by the Thames around Henley and Marlow by grabbing the odd unobservant bunny rabbit as they swoop down but they can only get a few of those.
Urban foxes are more likely to be trying to get into bins now too as lot of the takeaways are closed and there are no discarded kebabs from pizzed up revellers to find as the pubs are all shut.
And I saw a pic on my phone's newsfeed today of hungry monkeys in Thailand swarming across a deserted town square. With no tourists feeding them they are starting to scavenge - it looked like a scene from Planet of the Apes!!!! Scary stuff.
