Very wet. My trousers and boots let in water. Not used to that after less that 120 miles of proper rain. Both have done 40000 miles plus so no whinging, just need to put my hand in the pocket.

cant complain at that. my sidi black rains were done at 20k and were not that great to begin with. the new sidi are just superb. my rukka trousers feel like they are wet when it rains but its just the cold under my bawsack.

I found my bike gloves tucked inside my helmet today. No biggie. The problem is I forgot to take them out and let them dry (3 weeks ago). Mould everywhere....

Andrew are you GOOD friends with Stan at WSB ?. I'm looking for a 125 for the Granbairn.
Malc. buy a basket case and the two of you put it together after which he/she can have it. this will do two things. 1.teach them how to maintain it. 2.make it memorable so they might look after it.
littleoldman2
09-07-16, 09:54 PM
We've been looking today. Not sure he's keen on that angle, but looking at that and older Honda's, as let's be right everyone drops the bike in the first year (hopefully very slowly).
if he wants a motorbike then he will do it, if not then its just a fad. besides he gets to spend time with his granddad or does he just 'want'. give it a go, you never know he might just get the bug. learning the mechanics goes a long way to understand how to ride a bike.

Know him well enough.
He doesn't run the bike sale side, Stan has a business partner doing it.
The bikes are sound, non of them are insurance marked

Three days for that??? Whats wrong with you Lance that looks like a Sunday morning run for you... Are you getting old or summit?

12-07-16, 10:34 PM
Leisurely pace?! I'd want about 5 days to enjoy that properly. Plus 2 days each way to get to Edinburgh from down here. SO, basically, I'm waiting for the youngest to leave home so we can take the whole fortnight!
Enjoy
Mrs DJ Fridge
12-07-16, 10:37 PM
Three days holiday for the year does not seem enough, you must be self employed because only those of us in that situation would know why you only have three days. I would love that route with a week to do it, wow imagine a whole week to be free on the bike, the it would be a big toss up between Scotland and Ireland.
wish i was self employed. 24/7 care. been doing it for 9 years after this happened:

littleoldman2

Mrs LOM now back to top form, Ive got a little niggle on my right knee.
Out bike hunting today as Mrs LOM wants to see what's available. I know not why as we will end up with another K1200/1300 or a VFR1200. Being dragged round all the bike shops, hopefully with the odd ride and a beer on the way home is my kind of shopping;)

I had a bizarre experience today. Suzuki sent me letter asking me to pop into my nearest dealer for a reg/rec swap on warranty, even though mine was done five years ago. Irritating as the nearest one is 20 miles away and takes up a chunk of my precious Saturday, but at least it was warm and sunny today. Just dropped off my key when an identical GSX to mine pulled up for the same fix... Same colour, year, topbox and old fart rider. Spooky.

this is a classic example of how much people trust their government and what they are told to do. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-37155060
if a government told their public that eating shizz was good for you people would try it.
was told by one of my son's earlier and thought it was a wind up.

People believing that the govt may not be able to ensure the existing infrastructure in the event of a disaster, is kind of them not trusting the govt. It'd be more of a stretch if the govt said "don't worry about anything, we've got it covered." I don't see the problem in being advised to take personal responsibility for reasonable precautions in supplies of the things that keep you alive.
Especially the bit about water. Water supplies are an easy target.

Well I did 89 miles today then filled up 10.86 litres, so just over a litre left. I probably could get it to 100 miles if I really wanted to. Risky though

170 miles (full GM rideout route) on 12.6ltr ;)
DarrenSV650S
11-09-16, 09:07 PM
I can't really say anything to that lol. It is actually impressive the mpg the newer sv's get. It's not as if you ride slow.
Although, I have a bad habit of revving it right to the red line just to hear the awesome noise at higher revs, then the exhaust pops when I change up. It's addictive :smt020 :smt077

12-09-16, 07:18 AM
The old ones aren't bad actually. I regularly see over 180 miles before the light flashes and I've had over 200 miles before filling up. I do really brim the tank when I fill up, rocking the bike gently while trickling the last litre or so of fuel in. I'm not particularly cautious with the throttle either although I do tend to change up through the gears at around 6-7k.
we come to the conclusion at the GM that its due to me being so small that i get lower wind restriction, the other one was that i dont brake much :-)
DarrenSV650S
12-09-16, 11:17 AM
When I try to brim the tank on the dorso it doesn't like it and spits it on the floor

Never been there.
Stunning scenery but if you really look at the road, the bends appear too tight to carry any appreciable speed which usually makes for a tiring ride wrestling the bike through every curve.
Of course i could be all wrong. :|
Pushbikes....
I hate pushbikes.
I apologize to all of you who ride them.
But they are always, always , always in the way in the mountains and what's worse they act as if they own the road.
Over here most won't mind blocking you by riding two wide if they are going downhill.
Made more irritating by them looking round at you several times and still not moving over.
I find getting up really close to them at 8k rpms or better tends to move them out of the way in a hurry.
Sometimes they just need reminding who has the biggest tires, the biggest brakes, and the biggest bxlls.
That's right!!! Move over!!!!
Thanks I feel better now.
I'll get me coat.
thats the whole point about the stelvio is the switchbacks.
i dont mind people on pushbikes as i have the power to overtake within seconds, its when you get a continuous stream of them that i fear for their life's due to if i have to make a manoeuvrer for oncoming traffic. its not me that will get killed and i dont particularly want the death of someone else on my conscience.
