Good morning all. Cloudless blue skies again here today. The same is forecast for tomorrow, but I'm really hoping the weather breaks this weekend as predicted. I'm desperate for some rain for my garden now!
Busy day here with a lot of running about to do once I've been for a walk with Mabel. I need to deliver an old Singer sewing machine I've just serviced to it's owner, then stop by the garden centre to collect a couple of bags of organic, peat free compost. Then home and a load of potting on of veg and flower seedlings to be done, as well as a job on my Bramley apple tree, grafting on a couple of Cox scion cuttings. Busy, busy!
Hope everyone else has a decent day.

I gleefully switched the laptop off at 5 and headed outside at last. The latch is now back on the rebuilt fence/gate after a coat of Ducks Back. Looks very patchy but I'll put two more coats on it later in the year.
I also finally replaced all the divots that the badger dug out of my lawn on Tuesday evening. Took me over an hour as there quite a few...

Anyone know how to resize images before uploading to imgur?
I used to resize them with Photoshop but don't have it on my PC anymore.
I swear imgur used to have a built-in resize feature too

Try using Paint.net Darren. You can download a free version from here (https://www.getpaint.net/download.html)
I've been using it for 10 or 15 years now, it's a brilliant program.

Had a spin out this afternoon, was enjoying an ice-cream during a stop midway round. Watched an older gent on a big BM GS1250 manoeuvring his bike out of a space between a few other bikes: he paddles back, taps a Triumph ADV bike which topples over onto the bike next to it, which in turn falls onto the kerb. Oops, that's an expensive afternoon ...
Sir Trev
12-04-25, 06:01 PM
Dropping my bike onto other bikes is something I dread doing. Hope the other bikers were not too grumpy with the poor chap.
I had too many chores to do ahead of a royal visit (mum coming to stay for Easter) to be able to go out on Bullseye. Boo! Still, I now have clean cars and clean windows, on the outside at least. Will do the inside of the windows tomorrow, along with a dozen or more other things on the prep list...
Van failed mot on rear brake pipe which i was surprised it was only that. Got sorted so another year. To celebrate i had a night up at Loch Ronnoch.

Morning all, how is everyone today?
Hoping to see some of this rain today. We had a few spots last night but then it was sunny again this morning first thing. It is clouding over, but the forecast is now is for no rain until late this afternoon. Ah well, I'll take waterproofs with me anyway when I go for a walk with Mabel. I think the bike will be staying put for the next couple of days.
Hope the week ahead is good for everyone.

Hi Gary - I'm heading out for a spin before the rains come as it looks like it'll be wet for the next 5 or 6 days here.
It definitely rained overnight here, puddles on the garage roof. Lots of house cleaning this week as I've got the kids and grandkids arriving for Easter.

Well we had a bit of a **** end to last week. Jack went for his weekly check-up to see if he's gaining weight after getting his prolonged diarrhea under control. The diagnosis had been a thickened bowel wall from inflammation, but they could not rule out bowel cancer without a biopsy.... if he put on weight it isn't cancer. We were worried as he looked thinner (he was already emaciated by his illness) and alas he had lost another kilogram in a week. Bowel cancer thus confirmed. We laid him to sleep in our arms on Friday, nine months after cancer of the spleen took his sister.
RIP Jack. He was a good boy.

Morning all. We've finally had some rain, and there's a fair bit more forecast from mid-day onwards. The water butts have water in them again and by the end of the day they should all be full. The garden looks so much happier too, all the onions and garlic have perked up, and it feels like everything else out there is stretching out for the water.
I'm going to put on the waterproofs and take Mabel for a good walk this morning and then I have some potting on of veg seedling to do this afternoon.
Hope all is ok for everyone else.

Wet weather programme here today, too. The rain finally arrived. It's a shame as the cherry blossom trees around here have just hit their peak, they're absolutely stunning.

Went that London today. All the ticketing options for the train have changed...
Visited my favourite gentleman's shaving goods emporium in St James's (Taylor's of Old Bond Street) before walking down to Victoria Coach Station to meet me mum off the 491National Express from Great Yarmouth. Taxi to Marylebone and train back to Wycombe.
Wish me luck. I don't get to deposit her back at the Coach Station for five nights so if you all hear on the news about a man from Buckinghamshire being on the run for matricide you'll know it didn't go well...

We went for a walk around Coombe Hill today. It has a huge memorial to the Boer War at the top and some amazing views over the Vale of Aylesbury, Chequers (as in the PM's weekender) and Oxfordshire as it's right on the edge of The Chilterns. Bit misty today so didn't take any pics. The Ridgeway passes across a corner of it too.
It also has England's oldest surviving Geocache, so I bagged that while we were there.
Wet and miserable here. Typical bank holiday weather. Took the grandkids to Park Hall farm which is partly undercover.

Cracking 11¼ wet weather hike in the hills here with Mabel (who is now at her ease on the sofa!). The nice new Alpkit jacket kept me dry, the Grisport Pyke boots partly kept my feet dry. Had walking boots over 50 years, some ridiculously expensive but the most comfortable have been the present Grisport ones and they are as waterproof as any others I have owned. So impressed I was I bought a pair of their leather walking shoes and a pair of the lighter leisure shoes. They all appear well made and a bargain.

You're right about the comfort RT, no breaking in and comfortable from the word go. Good grip too. I wore them on my hike up Arenig Fawr last week and they felt very sure footed.

I tend to go for footwear which I know will cope with relatively serious mountain conditions Trevor. I have bought some of the cheaper, lower quality footwear in the past, but always found myself regretting it once I do any more than ambling about on local, low level footpaths.

I'm not a serious walker ;-) but we regularly do 4 to 5 miles on tracks and footpaths.
A while back I needed some walking / 'approach' shoes sharpish and bought a £30 pair of Karrimors from Sports Direct, on the basis that they were cheap and disposable if they were uncomfortable.
Well, they fitted me perfectly from the off, and lasted for ages while still giving good support and grip. They're a textile top so not waterproof, but we don't walk in the rain anyway. I'd say they were easily the match of a £100+ pair of Merrells or similar.

19-04-25, 09:24 AM
I'm very much a lowland or footpath type of walker, so support and comfort are a bit more important for me than extreme grip or climbing ability. Which means I can get away with the cheaper end of the market, and the Peter Storms I usually get usually last me several years.
Thankfully most geocaches are placed in easy to get to places, so folks of all abilities can access them.

We're between rain showers right now. Due to get a few hours more of it any time so we're stuck indoors. Ma's mobility isn't great so we're limited with options.

Nice ride out through Oxfordshire for a good four hours today. Stopped at the Suzuki dealer and booked Bullseye in for his first year service and meandered a very long way round to Oxford Triumph. They had the Speed 400 in all three colours - it's favourite for Lady Poppy if she finally decides to get a bike again. We both like the blue ones.
Funnily enough I got her to try sitting on the back of Bullseye when I got home. Tall-rounders like mine seem to be a right pain for passengers to get onto as the rear pegs are so high. Another good reason for getting her own bike of course!
Will put some leather dressing on my new bicycle saddle this afternoon and let it soak in overnight before going for the first break-in ride. Comments on the t'internet vary about how many miles folk claim are needed for them to fit you right. Will report back.

A quick five mile loop around The Rye (imagine a rec with about a dozen footie pitches on it) and after a tweak to move it forward and get the nose angle right it seems very nice. We now need to head off for a pub lunch next weekend to see how a 15 mile loop feels. Hope the nice weather holds.

Morning Gary. Wrestled the back wheel out yesterday, new Bridgestone S21 being fitted this morning, then a gentle scrubbing-in ride and assorted pottering.
I like the Bridgestone, very grippy and predictable in the dry. I used to really like Avon Storms but Avon replaced them. The Bridgestone definitely has more grip but at the expense of longevity: just over 9,000 miles from the S21 compared to around 14,000 from an Avon. However the Bridgestone is about £20 cheaper so that compensates a little.
I'm venturing into town today for our monthly meeting with retired colleagues.

Not yet - the wheel's back on the bike (a fiddly job which I absolutely hate, it needs 3 hands to keep all the spacers in place) but after torqueing it all up, checking alignment, cleaning & lubing the chain etc I decided a mug of tea and a good sit down to ease my back was more important :)
I like the S21, it's grippy from the off and doesn't seem to 'square off' like Avons do. The relatively short life is a minor gripe as it's £20 cheaper than the equivalent Avon Spirit.

Still recovering from this damn cold. The cough is lingering making me half wonder if it was Covid, but I don't have any test kits left so I have no idea.
My Honda dealership has just offered me an extended warranty on the TA which is two years old next month. £290 for one year which includes breakdown cover. I don't think I'll bother as the bike does very few miles in a year (Inc SORN for 3 months). I'll sort out my own breakdown cover which I only want for punctures. For interest I've only covered 3500 miles to now.

I'd agree with that. When I bought my SV it still had half of the 3-year warranty remaining but I did all servicing myself as I wasn't going to pay rob-dog dealer prices for oil changes. I simply assumed nothing would go wrong (and nothing did).

My Honda dealership has just offered me an extended warranty on the TA which is two years old next month. £290 for one year which includes breakdown cover. £290 seems a lot. My VW extended warranty for the ID.4 cost me £260 for al parts and 15k miles. There's a lot more to go wrong in an EV than on a modern motorbike.

Yes it does seem expensive by comparison. I paid for a service plan when I bought the bike. It includes 3 services of which the last is next month. I've never had a main agent service my bikes but I assumed I'd need to pay them to keep the warranty. That too in hindsight was expensive for what is basically an air change and a general check over.

Did your plan include anything beyond the standard checks, like valve clearance or brake fluid swap? Some plans sneak in higher-cost intervals to justify the pricing, but if it’s all minor, yeah… not exactly money well spent.

Morning all. Yet another sunny day. Very nice but I'd like a bit of rain please for my garden! Busy afternoon as we have our bi-monthly Repair Café here in Llanfyllin at which I'll be working. Not as many advance bookings as normal today but there are bound to be a few walk in repairs so we won't be short of stuff to fix. I'll go out for a walk with Mabel first though, before it gets to warm for her.
Anything exciting going on in .org land for anyone else?

I recall it didn't include consumables such as brake pads and tyres, I'm not sure about a valve check. I'm a long way off the milage for the valves anyway.

There's a local car, bike show on the outskirts of Shrewsbury on Sunday. I'll probably pop along with the camera.
