Diablo Rosso 4.

The bike came with Diablo Supercorsa's which were awesomely sticky, but too sticky. They picked up stones and threw them all over the bike. So I changed the rear to a Rosso 4 when it ran out. Now the front will match.

I will hopefully get some more of my pre-initial-service miles in on the 800RE this weekend. Plus get some dry cleaning sorted, and possibly a tie and panama hat purchased, so I'm ready for our anniversary trip in a few weeks. We board the train at HW station at 5am and end up in Dartmouth at lunchtime, before the return later in the day. As we went with posh seats (it is our pearl anniversary after all) the tickets say smart casual is the minimum expected, and I suspect everyone will, like us, dress up and make it a fun experience. Trouble is, I hate shopping for clothes of any kind...

Weather looking rubbish for Saturday so any chance to ride the bike will have to wait till Sunday, maybe.

First time I've ever had the front wheel out of the street triple, so I didn't have the required 17mm allen hex socket. The second shop I went to had a kit, so got that. Got the wheel off the bike, got the tyre changed, drove home, then noticed the tyre is an Angel ST instead of the Rosso 4 I asked for. :smt012

The tyre supplier sent my fitter the wrong tyre, and he doesn't have a Rosso. And he is going on holiday next week, so I can't get it fitted till next Friday.

Come on RAIN!!!! :p

Sounds very irritating Darren. I had Avons on the Bonneville, which were excellent, but I know all too well how it feels to specify one thing and get something else. Like the RAC installing a different make and spec battery to my last car, saying it would be fine. It was not... Hope you get it sorted soon.

After a very nice day wandering the fringes of the Cotswolds, Bullseye now has the magical 600 miles on the clock for his first service. Shame I still have over two weeks until the first booking I could get. Thankfully I can go over by a bit without worry, per the dealer.

One thing I tried today was moving the screen to its lowest position. It came set in high, but two minutes with an allen key (not supplied by Suzuki) and it was done. Magically, all the turbulence and buffeting around my lid was gone. On the downside, less air got into my Arai's vents so its a bit warmer around the bonce. Worth it though.

Hugh, my T100, came with an allen key as a "toolkit". Never did look to see what bolts it would fit.

Bullseye also has an allen key (wrong size for the screen) and a, gasp, double-ended screwdriver. Although comically it took my five minutes of hunting to find the handle for it which is bafflingly on the underside of the seat...

The TA came with a fairly good toolkit but the silliest item was a loop of wire. This loop of wire goes through your helmet buckle and then you hook it onto the bike frame. Finally you put the seat back and your helmet is supposedly safe from being nicked. I've tried to attach my helmet directly to the frame but you can't get the seat back on.

My VFR had hooks under the seat, the same as the SV, no need to faff with bits of wire but then I'm old enough to remember when you used to get proper helmet locks with key locks.

Sir Trev
29-07-24, 05:11 PM
Last time I used an under-seat hook for a lid was back in my student days on my GSX250. It was a right faff to get the seat back on as I recall. At least one bike after that had a locking loop on the frame but getting to the keyhole with the lid on there was also a real faff.

I'll stick to my topbox.

Speaking of rides, I discovered a new (to me) route to Bala, from Oswestry down the A483, turning off at the Llynclys crossroads then via Pen-y-bont, Pentrefelin, Penybontfawr and Llangynog over the top and down. Route here (https://maps.app.goo.gl/g6BPBToaib7JUPjC7).

I'm sure Orgers in the area will be familiar with it, but it's 30 miles of absolute biking heaven. Stunning scenery that changes constantly and beautiful flowing roads, perfect for 65 / 70mph riding (with the occasional nadgery bit and the odd stray sheep!).

I'm in for a rough week. For some reason I've been asked to support the business development team with a sales bid, first time in a year or more. Bafflingly they keep saying I'm responsible for writing a chunk of the draft contract? No, I'm an accountant, I work with numbers, not words. Thankfully my boss laughed and said he'd take it up with the CFO as that's not our job. Trouble is these guys are dedicated to bids and expect those of us seconded to the team to be entirely focused on them. Nope, I do this around my day job which takes priority, so don't expect me to help much during month end. That always makes moan about not "pulling together". Idiots. If I don't close the books properly and the results do not reflect true and fair then the directors can go to gaol and customers don't pay our invoices - both of which are fairly important.

I'd much rather be out on my bike. Come on retirement!!!!

Ain't that the truth. I've mentioned before that I keep a log of the days when I've had a spin out on the bike, and how many miles I did.

This year to the end of July is the lowest mileage I've covered on the bike since 2020, between 1500 and 2500 miles less than previous years, and believe me, I've tried to get a ride in pretty much every day that the sky and roads are dry. The weather has simply been very changeable this year.

I think over time, 20mph will become the default for residential and built up areas everywhere.

Luckypants

Wales got the headlines with the 'blanket' 20mph limit, but many areas of the UK have similar situations at county level. Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire all have large parts of their road networks limited to 50mph, in my experience. Apparently Oxfordshire are similar. Scotland trialed 20mph limits a number of years ago but decided against a blanket limit change like Wales, although many of the trial areas have not put their limits back up to 30mph.

The problem with 'national speed limit' is that different types of vehicles have different speed restrictions. While motorbikes, cars and smaller vans can do 60 on a de-restricted single carriageway heavier vans and vehicles can only do 50. It kinda makes sense to have a clearly posted limit that applies to all vehicles. I always used to travel at 20mph on housing estates anyway, so the fact that our estate went to from 30 to 20mph six months ago did not bother me, but when doing 20 I still get people ( mainly young women, and women with kids in the car) sitting on my rear bumper - I can imagine their reaction if somebody ran over one their kids at 30 in a 20 limit. I think the problem in Wales was that any road with even one house was reduced to 20mph and it was ridiculous...

Has anyone else noticed that when you get tailgated these days it is normally young female drivers doing it.

Some of the worst offenders with regard to breaking the 20 limit around here are the farming crowd. The speed that some of the monster tractor and trailer/muck spreader/sileage machine combos, the size of and HGV, are doing through the centre of town is unbelievable. Most of them are not even within the old 30mph limit, never mind 20mph.

redtrummy
22-08-24, 08:49 AM
What price a life? Accident rates since the 20mph speed limit was introducedare down some 23%. Traveling to Wales after the new speed limit it didn't seem to us that it was a blanket 20mph limit. I am sure it was not perfectly implemented and it will need some revisions. Re SVs last point , I suppose it is down to common sense and experience. How many new drivers are put in situations where safety considerations need to be made? Its a sanitized world we live in.

Thats the same all over Gary. The police need to start prosecutions because almost everything comes off second best to these big tractors. Hitting farmers in the pocket really does make them behave :-)

I've said it a few times on here, but speeding / carelessly driven tractors is the reason I have a dashcam.

Maybe less people traveled to Wales , so less traffic. We live in Shropshire and stopped going to Wales, as I am sure may others did. To prove a real drop they need to show accidents per so many miles driven dropped, not just the headline figure of accidents overall. Come to think of it if we had a man with a red flag in front of every vehicle the accident rate will drop some more, but don't suggest that within Starmers earshot.

It's been said before that if you replaced the airbag in the steering wheel of cars with a 12" spike then the accident rate would probably reduce dramatically!

Looks like Oxfordshire has caught up: Up 'til about 5 years ago I used to live in the south of Warwickshire (where there were already plenty of former-NSL 50 limits) and it was noticeable that many of those roads became NSL again right on the county line into Oxfordshire.

I remain to be convinced that there's a noticeable safety difference in reality between driving at 50mph and 60mph for the typical driver nowadays. (Although since many seem to travel at 40-45mph anyway I guess that's a moot point! Seems the psychology of displaying many more speed limit signs + repeaters has had the desired effect?) And there's always been the issue that there are still many who can't limit themselves in NSL to 60mph, or within a sensible safe margin thereabouts - do those offenders really think any differently about compliance in the new 50 zones?

It's been a pretty pants work week thanks to some genius deciding to do an upgrade to everyone's SAP GUI on day two of month end... An angry mob of accountants is not a pretty sight. You know its bad when us introverts get noisy!

Thankfully I am now done for the week and we're visiting The Monkey this weekend. Yay.

Had a cracking ride-out today in the sunshine, and had a good chat with the owner of an Aprilia RS250 over a coffee. Didn't see many of those around when they were new, let alone now. It had Jim Lomas spannies on it, which sounded glorious.

My old paddock stand doesn't work too well on the TA due to the enormous front wheel. This is my solution some 8" shopping cart wheels.

Skills there, John!

I have the same time of front stand and I'm never quite 100% confident the two rubber-covered fingers will actually stay in place on the end of the forks. In hindsight perhaps I should have gone for a steering-stem stand but they cost a LOT more ...

I bought one of the steering head stands a few years back and tbh, it wasn't that pricey. I think it cost around £35 back then.

*Edit*
Bloody hell! This is the one I bought (https://jsaccessories.co.uk/product/bike-it-front-steering-head-stand-5-pi-39634) back then. It's more than doubled, possibly trebled in price!

I bought this stand years ago for the SV as a double package offer, front and rear for slightly more than just a rear. The rear never gets used now as my last two bikes have centre stands.

Bloody hell that was a wet day! Spent it doing the sound tech for the Food Fair at y Dolydd in Llanfyllin. It rained from the time I arrived to set up at 8am until I packed the kit away and drove off home at 6.30pm. Surprisingly given all the music was outdoors, albeit with cover provided for me, audience, and performers, there was a good attendance.

Got home about an hour and a half ago unloaded, wiped down all the gear, stacked it all away and am now finally sat with a cuppa and a bowl of food.

Phew!

Morning all. Slightly brighter today, but cool and breezy. My new mattress should(!) be arriving this morning so a few jobs I'll get on with while I'm waiting. Spuds to be lifted, pick another load of runner beans, string the onions. I want to take another look at the bike too as there is an intermittent electrical fault somewhere.

What's the week ahead looking like for everyone?

Ooof! It peed down here all yesterday too, and the rain has continued overnight. Lovely [-(

Got hospital visits tomorrow and Wednesday for pre-chemo blood tests and then the actual infusion, so mostly hanging around for the first half of the week :smt015

Was miserable here too. Planned dog walks didn't happen which is a minor problem as we are dog sitting my daughter's spaniel which is used to at least an hour a day off-lead so she is climbing the walls while I'm working....

This week's plans involve winning the lottery....

Good luck with the blood tests Craig, hope it goes well for you and they get you onto your treatment asap.

Spaniels are endless bundles of energy - ADHD dogs!

And about that lottery win - mine's a Thruxton RS please Mike! :D

Thanks Gary - it's my second infusion so it's all fairly routine. At least it doesn't look like I'm going to miss any good weather ...

Hope the chemo doesn't knock you about too badly. The weather looks pretty wet for the next few days so as you say, it doesn't like like you'll be missing any sunny riding weather.

I'm off to Scotland for a few days with daughter Sioned. We're playing at a small charity festival, "Bootstock in the Borders", in Traquair, for the Nepal Trust. Driving up tomorrow, playing Friday night and Saturday night, then driving home on Sunday morning. Going to be fun but exhausting I think!

sounds good fun, we are off to the' Peace through Folk gathering' this weekend in Staffordshire . I am usually heavily involved helping to set the site up but this year I have not regained my stamina or balance sufficiently to be of any use

Morning all. Had my first of three nights last night up here in Scotland. I'm staying with a friend who lives on the Glen Estate just south of Traquair. Daughter Sioned is in a flat in the big house. And it is a big house too, a huge, baronial Victorian pile, astonishing place.
Just looked out of the window this morning and we have a hard frost!

We're off into Peebles this morning for a look around and then meeting in Innerleithen with old friends from Bonar Bridge who are coming down to take part in the event this evening and tomorrow.

Might just pop along...

Hope to see you this evening if you can make it Lance.

Yep, me on box, Sioned on flute. Concert this evening, session tomorrow evening.

Hope we didn't get a frost at home, I have loads of runner beans still growing!

What a fabulous few days that was up in Scotland. Had a great time playing music with lots of other musicians, surrounded by amazing scenery, and so well looked after. Had the chance to catch up with old friends, one of whom I hadn't seen for 26 years, and a couple of others I hadn't seen since 2011. Fantastic time.

Bit different to us then Lance. We were driving back south down the motorway in the rain by Sunday afternoon. How did the stargazing go?

Morning all. Gloomy, cloudy start to the day here but with the promise of sunshine by late morning.

No rest for the wicked here. The week is filled with rebuilding a large pond for someone and Teams meetings. Hopefully next week will be quieter and I can get on with some of my own stuff!

How is everyone else's week shaping up?
