thats the whole point about the stelvio is the switchbacks.
Thinking about your Euro trio please tell me you are planning on doing Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Never been but the photos of it and descriptions make me wanna go there for a day.

Never been there.
Stunning scenery but if you really look at the road, the bends appear too tight to carry any appreciable speed which usually makes for a tiring ride wrestling the bike through every curve.
Of course i could be all wrong. :|
Pushbikes....
I hate pushbikes.
I apologize to all of you who ride them.
But they are always, always , always in the way in the mountains and what's worse they act as if they own the road.
Over here most won't mind blocking you by riding two wide if they are going downhill.
Made more irritating by them looking round at you several times and still not moving over.
I find getting up really close to them at 8k rpms or better tends to move them out of the way in a hurry.
Sometimes they just need reminding who has the biggest tires, the biggest brakes, and the biggest bxlls.
That's right!!! Move over!!!!
Thanks I feel better now.
I'll get me coat.
Bill for president!! :salut:

It was only me on my jack jones, so no one had any problems getting past me. That's the best thing about French roads, plenty of space, not like the UK road.
Its not the cyclists you need to worry about, but the supercar drivers who regularly drive these routes, and you'll find them clipping the apex on your side of the road. Stelvio's full of them, as are roads up to the L'iseran summit, basically any road with lots of switchbacks, they're magnets for the super car owners.

I got hit in the chest by a duck today. I was only going about 30 but it did hurt a bit!
It was waddling across the road as I came round a corner quite quick. I slowed down trying to decide which way I should go. It looked like it was going to just keep walking, right up until the last second when it flew up and in between my arms. Stupid thing managed to fly away from me ok though, probably wondering what just happened

I'm at a complete loss as to wear to go for this Sundays ride out. About 300 - 350 miles are OK if I'm on my own or can get Mrs LOM out of bed at a sensible hour.

Had a nice ride out today but the weather was nothing like the forecast. "The early mist will lift to leave a dry but overcast day" COBBLERS. By the time I had got as far as Didcot the fog had become drizzle and I had to stop and change to my spare (more waterproof) gloves that I thankfully had in the topbox. Going to have to wash the F again now too which is a shame as it's already had it's annual bath.
I made the kids walk 5 miles in the rain today. Character building.

Every time I go to Sussex to visit the Monkey at uni it rains, which I'm starting to get a complex about! Don't want to worry you Mav but I'll be in Norfolk next weekend visiting the folks so it is bound to rain over your way to.
Of course this could be a business opportunity. If any of you would like to pay me to stay away from your area to have a better chance of better weather let me know and I'll send you my PayPal details :D
I've just come back from a week in Caister Trev, it was very nice all week so its probably time for you to damp them down :)

I'd quite like it to rain on some of the people from Caister I went to college with, permanently. Odd bunch of people.
We stayed at the Haven site, our tourer pitch was beside Ormesby Road, a couple of the locals seemed to enjoy whizzing up and down there most evenings - although the bike doing it sounded rather nice :)
What happened to the site last night? Couldn't get on. All I got was a database error.

Had to go and pick up some vino I'd ordered this morning. I slept soundly through the horrible weather last night but wow are there a lot of leaves all over the roads today. Take care if you're out and about on two wheels today.
Back in UK for a pre Christmas visit, just pulled up behind a windscreen repair van in Worksop with the logo.."show us your crack",and also reminded me of one of those vacuum suction tankers that empty porta loos etc,and their logo was "we are the missing link" made me smile !!!

I work exclusively through agencies due to my Institute's rules and the recruiters get very grumpy when clients insist on no notice from their side but assume they can impose a week from me. Getting told at 5pm (yes, they made sure they did not tell me until the very end of the day) that the project was being wound up early and I was no longer required as of right now was mildly irritating to say the least. You have my sympathies Daz and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that something just right will pop up soon for you.
My contract in Perth was supposed to be for 3 months but after 6 weeks the work was completed and our group were all given one weeks notice, losing a months fees. I complained to the agency but was basically told Tough. The reason I complained was that that was my first contract after a year of no work.
Turned out alright though because 3 weeks later I got a better contract that lasted 18 months.

Couldn't post this in smile or gripe of the day
My 84 year old mum had the first accident in all her years of driving, she was driving in the dark & I have no idea where she was going or what she was going to do, she's in early stages of dementia. I don't think she knew either. So that's the gripe
Its not a smile, but she wrote off her car, well a P reg Astra isn't going to be repaired. It saves us having to say she can't drive anymore, which with a stubborn elderly mother wouldn't be easy. Thankfully no one was hurt, and her insurance will pay for the damage to the other car.
bad news about yer mum crashing Mav. the outcome is for the best i think, especially if she has early dementia.
