I was dismayed to see frost and thick mist this morning on opening the curtains. Thankfully it soon warmed up and the sun burned away the mist. I had lubed the chain in autumn as I rolled him into the garage and under the covers so all Hugh needed this morning was a check of the tyre pressures and a prod of the button, and my riding season has finally begun!

The cafe at Woburn Triumph was packed with like minded souls. It even had a guy in a V8 hotrod and several cyclists too. Several nice back roads later on the return run, via a Hertfordshire bicycle shop I picked at random to get some better chain lube (the Muc Off Dry Lube bottle is now in the bin - utter rubbish) and I'm a happy chappie.

Hope you all get chance for a rideout of two if you've got nice weather like we do here in South Bucks.

No time for a ride here Trevor unfortunately. I spent a good chunk of the day working at a local repair cafe, and by the time I got home it was too late. I went into the garden instead and sieved and shovelled more soil into the newest raised bed.

You ride a bit (lot) more year round than me Gary, so you more than make up on that front :D And all that work in the garden will be well worth it for years to come.

Happy to report the new bicycle chain lube has made the push iron a LOT quieter and easier to shift gear too. Lovely day for a gentle ride down a repurposed railway line, especially with a pint and some reviving fries with Lady Poppy at the halfway point, before we set off back again.

Looks like this is the last of the nice days, weather-wise, for a week or so which means tomorrow will be a Spring cleaning day. Yuck!

Yes indeed, the work in the garden should set me up for some time to come. I'm keen to get the bulk of it sorted asap though, as I would like it in shape before I get an allotment.
With the forecast for the next couple of days looking pretty poor, I think I've missed my chance to get out for a sunny ride on the SV, and gardening will probably have to wait until it dries up a bit once more.

I think I also need to get both of my bicycles out, clean and service them and start riding them again.

Morning Gary, same here, looks set for rain all this week. I did get out over the weekend though for a ride to Porthmadog via Bala and the B4391, and yesterday to the Ponderosa and Nant-y-Garth pass, so that scratched the itch somewhat ...

Been tipping it down most of the day here. So, spring cleaning has indeed been the order of the day. The window fitters are coming in six weeks or so and could not get to the study window. Have moved the furniture round to rectify things but now have to thin out all the odds and sods I had to hoik out to do so. What a lot of junk I had in there!

CBR600 nearly back together. Leaving the fairings off for now (so I can do a bit more on the shock etc), apart from the front which has the indicators and headlight on. Just the V5 transfer needed so I can tax it and it's time to book the MOT. It'll be it's first one for over 3 years.

Adam, how's the Honda coming along? Has it been MoT'd yet?

I managed to get out for an hour or so on the VFR this afternoon. My first proper ride of the season due to weather and other acts of God. I wanted to enjoy my last few weeks with this machine as it's still a fabulous thing to ride. Also the new Metzeler Sportec se01 tyres I had fitted recently are impressive. Felt very similar to the Michelin Road 4's and better than the continental road attack 3's. Loads of feel and light accurate steering.

When I was at school, the tradition among the group of us who had bikes at 17 was that when anyone in the group was selling their bike, we'd all have a final blast on it around the local 'circuit'.

I think we Border Patrol orgers should do the same with the VFR ;):D

Hey SIII, voice from the past there. Welcome back, how's it going?

Doing alright, thanks.

Still riding, got a Tuono 1000r now, just had to come back to a V-Twin. Once you ridden twins, nothing compares:p
Also got a KTM 250 Enduro, but haven't been out on that in a while, not since Covid lockdowns and the BMW ****suit brigade spoiled going up the forests in SW Scotland.

Didn't go out much last year after realising MOT ran out in '21:smt083, but definitely going to be using the bike more this year. My daughter has finished school, (so I don't have to drive her) so planning on using it for the commute during the nicer weather.

Good weekend over in Brum with Sioned. Trip to Castle Bromwich Hall gardens yesterday with Mabel for their monthly Canine Cafe. Very pleasant if slightly drizzly amble around the gardens, followed by tea and lemon drizzle cake, and lots of dog treats for Mabel.
This morning we got on the train to Sutton Coldfield for a walk in Sutton Park, then a large vegan breakfast at the Quinto Lounge in the town.
Fuss free train journey back to Welshpool this afternoon. Very enjoyable couple of days, but I'm pretty knackered now. Being in the city does take it out of me.....

Drizzle has reached us today, on and off, so I've spent the morning pulling out all the little bits and pieces stashed away in the garage for a bit of a clear out. My wife keeps asking if I'm OK as I stand there for five minutes staring at an oddly shaped, very dusty light fitting I must have kept for some reason or other ten plus years ago. No idea why as we don't have anything like it anywhere in the house... The rubbish bag and pile for recycling for next time I pluck up courage to go to the dump (and argue that it's household rubbish and not chargeable DIY waste) are both growing. On the upside, I now have shelf space again for those things I really should hang on to, you know, just in case :D

i enjoy painting. the secret is the brushes and rollers. a good brush, roller head and pole is an investment if looked after. biggest investment i made was a pelican (https://www.screwfix.com/p/wooster-pelican-hand-held-paint-scuttle-0-95ltr/7132G?kpid=7132G&ds_rl=1243321&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwd3So5_b_gIVRtDtCh1sOgEQEAQYASAB EgJ9tfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) and its inserts would not be without it now. also recommend these brushes (https://www.screwfix.com/p/wooster-gold-edge-cutting-in-brush-2-1-2-/9088x) first time i used one i had a big cheesy grin, the silver one is also good.

Happy and sad day for me today. After six years I'm considering changing my T100 but what to get? Another SV650 was always possible so it was off to a reasonably local dealer this morning for a test ride. It was SO nice to spend 40 minutes on one of these lovely bikes again and it ticked so many boxes. But, the pegs are just a bit too high for me at my age and though I'd doubtless get used to their position I equally think I'd get sore knees quite quickly.

Riding Hugh home again, via a very indirect route as it was a lovely day, made me appreciate the upright riding position and low pegs I have right now. Ah well, I'm in no rush.

Interestingly the dealer thought there would be a road-biased Strom 800 out later this year. The front end of the 650 Strom is not for me and sear height of the 800DE is way too high, so we'll have to see how much lower Suzuki can make the new model.

Trevor, I remember having a ride on a pointy S model a few years back and being uncomfortable with the footrests and handlebars. Compared to my curvy, the footrests were higher and further back, and the clip ons were lower. My legs felt to folded and I don't think it would have done my knees any favours.

My first SV was a K6S and yes, the riding position is super-aggressive. It murdered my wrists and arms unless I was doing 70+mph. I had to re-think how I sat on the bike and started using my core muscles which helped a lot.

I still miss that bike, even though my Gen 3 is better in most respects.

I've just endured two days of window fitters in the house... On top of that the builders doing next door's extension and some guys building a ramp for the elderly couple across the road means I've had a badly disrupted time of things. I'm utterly frazzled! The noise has at times been horrendous and I ended up for a while yesterday with my Ultimate Ear custom moulded plugs in. It helped a lot but I was just jittery, which was not pleasant.

The new windows look really nice (for the price they flippin well should be) but I'm so glad there's only one more day of this left to go. Just cannot relax or get on with work properly. As I need to moan about how they've left the patio doors as well I am not looking forward to day three at all.

I've been out on another test ride today. This time I tried the CB500X as a bit of a wildcard. I really liked the seating position and the overall ergonomics, it handled really well and for a twin it was very smooth indeed. But, the seat was a little too high and even though it spinned up really quickly the engine lacked any punch out of the corners. From comparing the specs I had a feeling those would be my two bugbears.

Of the three I've tried so far, I'd like the ergonomics of the 500X, the engine from the Tiger 660, the handling of the SV, and the sear height of my T100. I'm going to have to compromise somewhere but I'm in no hurry.

Next on the list are the bigger capacity options: Tracer9 and Tiger 900. Both have more power than I need, both are physically bigger than I'd like, but both come with adjustable seat heights and both can be had with lowered suspension. The search continues.

Glad to hear you're on the mend Craig. If I can get my garden and allotment jobs done in time I might nip out for a short run on the bike. I need to go to Welshpool for a few bits anyway....

Good morning orgers. What's everybody up to this bank holiday Monday?

fighting off a cold. Mrs LP has succumbed and family lunch has been cancelled. So its an easy day for us.

No lurgy at Trev Towers so far but I may come down with something if month end (next week) goes a bit sideways, especially as my boss is away on hols again. How on earth does a finance director get time off over month end??

Lady Poppy and I picked a pub at random this morning and cycled the 15 miles or so to be there for lunchtime opening. Good job too as half of Buckinghamshire seemed to have descended on the same pub... It was very chocolate box twee, nice food, and lots of tables under shady trees on the gree outside but the queue to get served by the time we left was crazy. Now sat on the patio having another beer resting my knees so all good.

Ha! Resting my knees as well Trevor, after a solid seven hours of digging out the weeds and couch grass on the first of the new allotment beds. I am absolutely knackered now!

Hope you and Mrs LP aren't feeling too ropey Mike.

Sunny and warm, thanks Gary. Changed the bike's oil & filter and got some riding in, did a bit of house sorting ready for the insurance assessor next week.

Sat out on the patio with a glass of chilled Sancerre - nice way to say goodbye to the working week, especially as it is a lot warmer this evening than of late.

BBQ with some old friends from our days in the Suzuki OC tomorrow so that will be nice to catch up and gossip, assuming the threatened thunder storms don't roll in.

Need the rain! Otherwise I will have to switch on the hose to water the garden and fill the water butts. Not good for my water boards bill!

I've emptied two of my four water butt's already. Will be keeping the remainder for topping up the pond as the veg plants don't mind if their liquid nourishment comes from the tap. I know we need a good rain but perhaps it could please wait until Monday when I'm at work?

We've no rain here yet but there is the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance. My sister down near Aberteifi has just messaged me to say it's now raining there. Really hope it makes it here very soon.

Well that never came to anything. An hour of thunder, 45 seconds of rain, anther half hour of thunder and it's over. :(

We had ten minutes of light rain late yesterday afternoon sat under a gazebo at a friend's house enjoying some nice BBQ asparagus. There was a slight damp smell in the air when we got home so we had a bit fall in HW too but it was all dry by then.

The thunder and rain for today has just stopped (thankfully it waited for me to get home from a ride out). Proper downpour for 30 minutes or so and I can hear the lawn sighing with relief at getting a drink at last.

We also had some rain last night and my lawn also sighed in relief .

We had a tiny amount mid afternoon but we need much more.

At least it was dry for the Cosford air show.

Finished work at 5, got changed into scruffies, fished out the long reach hedge trimmers, slotted in the battery, picked up the broom and bag for the clippings, and... got to within five paces of the hedge I was about to cut when... it started to rain. Oh dear*. Will try again tomorrow.

Huge storm here and torrential rain. My water butt filled in an hour. Mind you I only have a small butt.

Still raining now. Hwre!

Morning orgers. Back to the sunshine and heat again by the look of it. The met office is forecasting wall to wall sunshine until Saturday.
