Good luck from me too Craig.

Now back in grey damp Buckinghamshire after a couple of days in grey damp Norfolk. Dad's funeral went as well as these things can do. The utter prat that used to live next door to us when I was a kid thankfully did not show up, after advertising it on Facepage without us knowing... My mum walks with a stick and my brother and I were planning to use it to rearrange his face! I'm rather glad we didn't have to.

How's it looking with everyone else?

Craig380
13-02-25, 08:53 AM
Grey and chilly here, too. As it's very dry, I may layer up and have an hour or so on the bike this aft, I've hooked up the trickle charger just in case ...

Afternoon all. Grey, cold, and wet here now. Went for a walk with a friend and our dogs this morning, and it was just grey and chilly, especially in the wind. Now though, it's raining so I shan't be going outside again unless it's absolutely necessary!

Morning all. Grey and wet here again. A group of us are getting together this morning to plant several hundred wildflower plug plants on a bank on the entrance to the town. I don't know how much we'll get done as it's forecast to rain most of the day.

What are folks up to this weekend?

Craig380
15-02-25, 09:43 AM
Morning Gary: dreich here, so mostly indoor activities. Glad I got out on Thursday for a spin, even though it was chilly. I've never had a bike that didn't feel snappier in cooler, denser air :D

I dropped into Superbike Factory in Macc for a bit of a drool over bikes I can't afford yesterday. Spent far too long ogling a Hayabusa that the previous owner had beaten with the Yoshimura parts catalogue: full Yoshi titanium exhaust and loads of other trick bits, he must have spent a King's ransom on it. I'd have loved to take it for a quick blast up & down the local Mad Mile. What always gets me about 'busas is how low they are.

Also tried a pair of RST Paragon heated gloves. Have to say I wasn't particularly impressed for the asking price of £189: there was a mild feeling of warmth after 10 minutes, but that was on the highest setting, I didn't get the impression that they'd keep my hands much warmer than my current unheated Richa Carbon winter gloves. Maybe gloves that connect to the bike battery would be more effective, if more hassle.

Sir Trev
15-02-25, 06:28 PM
Manky weather here so walked into town to get my dry cleaning via a new geocache I spotted on the app yesterday. Found it no bother but then realised I didn't have a pen. D'oh!!

Tidied up the garage this afternoon - something I've been putting off for ages. Ended up with a bin bag of rubbish and I can now see the bench again.

garynortheast
16-02-25, 08:23 AM
Morning all. Grey and dull here again. Wet roads and low temps mean the bike is probably going to stay put today. A couple of gardening jobs and walk Mabel but the rest of it will be indoors stuff I think.

Anyone got anything exciting planned for the day?

Craig380
16-02-25, 09:01 AM
Grey and blinkin' well freezing here, so while I have thought about a spin on the bike, the attractions of central heating, regular coffees and not freezing my @rse off is currently winning!

Got some catching up on TV shows to do: need to finish Cra / Torment, the Gaelic drama on iPlayer and a couple of other things too.

16-02-25, 07:20 PM
Went for a walk through the local woods with Lady Poppy this morning as it was dull but dry and chilly. As I was having lunch later I decided the roads were dry enough so.... I got out for my first ride of the year. Thank heavens for two wheel therapy (and heated grips, and MnS thermal long johns).

Bullseye fired straight up and ran sweet as, but I was a bit chilly when I got back 90 minutes later. First time I've been out in Feb for quite a few years, and I still have a grin on my face.

All sorts comes in for repair Craig. I've had clocks, lamps, ornaments, computers, bicycles, sewing machines (both electric and hand cranked). I've also dealt with kettles, steam cleaners strimmers, lawnmowers, lots of garden tools for sharpening - the list is endless. It's good fun and very rewarding.

The past week has been spent settling the new dog in. He's about 18months old and we are his 4th (and final) home! He's not fully house trained, so there has been a few accidents. He's bright, so is picking stuff up quickly. Like any young dog he can get bored quickly so its tiring keeping him occupied.

Today is a new challenge as Mel is back in wok so its just me trying to work from home with him hanging out with me. I've decided to keep him in the office with me and he's been settled so far.

He will be a great dog with the right guidance and training.

Very cold here too but a lovely, bright and sunny day. Went into town and had a coffee and a catch up with an old friend. I was going to take the bike but it was just that bit too cold for it to have been comfortable, so took the car instead.

Came home, had a quick lunch, and then carried on with putting together the cloth tote bag I'm making. Out for another walk with Mabel then made a curry for dinner, and rounded off the evening with a business Teams meeting in prep for a longer TSP meeting tomorrow morning.

Gonna fall into a warm bed very shortly as I feel I've done enough for one day!

Well done for giving Mike the hound a permanent home. I think he's in for a lovely life by the sound of it.

We always adopt. There will always be unsuitable owners (aka asshats) buying puppies then dumping them, so happy to pick up the pieces. Beau is our 5th dog from North Clwyd Animal Rescue and they've all been good dogs but with their own issues. Jack is anxious so has doggy IBS as a result and drinks far too much due to water being scarce at his first two homes. Jemima suffered health issues due to malnourishment from being dumped as a puppy and fending for herself. Piper had a very high prey drive from having to hunt for his food as a stray. Max (my son's dog) was unable to trust humans, but Jon cured him of that - to destroy a dog's trust in humans takes some doing!

We'll find Beau's little flaw in time, but so far he seems a very sweet boy.

Two wheels is the original thread that binds us as a community, both online and in the actual world, but it's matured enough to recognise that we all have other interests beyond the bikes, and many of those interests are shared.

I think it's a grand way to start the day, checking in with folks here to see how everyone is and what you're all up to.

My back is killing me. I had to take a fence down when next door had their extension built over a year ago and I'm finally getting round to reinstalling it. Trouble is one of the posts snapped off as it was rotting badly. My SDS hammer drill came out to play today, along with my trusty crowbar, and I've dug/broken out anough of the old Postcrete to get a new post put in. But it took me hours, trying not to make the hole too big...

Need a hefty drink to recover i think!

I made the most of the good weather today and grabbed 2 or 3 hours out on the bike. Llanfyllin, Llangynog, Bala (with a quick stop at the town end of Llyn Tegid), Llangower, Bwlch y Groes, Dinas Mawddwy, Mallwyd, and a dash down the A458 to Welshpool in time for a coffee at Coco, and then back home.

There were a fair few bikes at Llyn Tegid, including a white 04 SV650s. The owner wasn't overly friendly or chatty though :-(

It was reasonably warm all the way round, even coming over the tops, but I was ready for a large, hot coffee when I arrived in Welshpool.

One of my least favourite jobs. I've had some success in pulling out the stump by screwing in a couple of very large coach bolts attached to a rope via a bracket and using a long lever like a new fence post. This is after I've removed the rotten wood a loosened with an SDS drill.

Quiet day and commute home from the office (thankfully) but a bit of a shock when I got home. My keen but clueless neighbour has hired a mini digger...

At 5:30 I heard a diesel engine starting in his back garden and there he was tentatively learning the controls. He's trying to clear the mess and rubble his builders left all over what used to be his lawn and his efforts with the world's smallest rotavator were getting him nowhere. He's now using a metaphorical sledgehammer to level things a bit and turn the ground over. Trouble is it will compact the soil a lot and will not sift out the debris in any way. Ideally it needs scraping back and replacing with topsoil. But that's expensive (he's got about 300 sq metres to do!).

Also, it's now ten past six, almost totally dark, and he's still going. How can an NHS optician be so clueless about health and safety??

Hope your day in Shrewsbury went well Gary.

Diggerman has been scraping topsoil from the high side over to the low side of his garden all day. It went quiet at nearly 18:30 so not sure if he's finished or just run out of diesel. There was nothing wrong with the very slight slope to his garden and there seems to be a lot of debris piled up against the fence with his otherside neighbour now, which will hopefully not collapse... It's a bit like a soap opera - what will he do next?

Boot zips... Had to laugh at the leaflet that came with the Daytona boots I bought in the sales just over a year ago. Use Daytona leather cleaner. Use Datona leather food. Use Daytona zip lubricant. Eh? Yep, Daytona makes a tube of zip lube. Looked up the ingredients and it's just PTFE-based, which is fine as I have a can of Screwfix PTFE lubricant in the garage already. I can now report it works very well worked into the zip with a cotton swab.

And the Grangers leather care cream I also already had in the garage brings the leather up just fine.

After the racing had finished, a group of the English racers went to the hospital to see how Tony was getting on. They asked to see him, and got the reply: "No, no Tony Rutter here, no-one by that name."

So they walked the wards and found Tony in a bed, asleep with plaster casts on, with the name 'Frank Thomas' above his bed. You can guess who made his leathers ;) :D

My first boots were FT. Lasted me years. Full calf jobs, five buckles up the side, white fisherman's socks turned over the top... Very 80's. The socks were down to my wide feet - needed to go up a size and the thick socks took up the slack everywhere else. Boots now seem to be a bit narrower in the calf, hence your issue I guess John.

Sensible price for waterproof boots so hope they break in well.

Enjoyable day today. Out with Mabel for a 6 mile walk on trails, back lanes, and woodland tracks, in glorious sunshine. Back for a quick bite to eat and then out again, this time on the bike for a thirty mile local loop and a late coffee in Welshpool.

Very pleasant.

We took Beau for his first ride in the car for his first walk in the woods yesterday. He handled both really well, settling in the car almost immediately then being absolutely fascinated by being properly outside. Jack (our older dog) even tried to initiate play, but due to Beau's lack of recall he was on his long lead so it didn't really happen. We will be working very hard on the recall so he can be allowed off lead for running fun. A fenced doggy paddock will be hired this week to allow for off lead time and further recall work.

We had our little grand daughter to stay for the weekend as well. Beau was brilliant with her and very careful when around her. He was so good we decided he must have been around children in one of his previous 'homes'. Still work to do to stop begging (and potentially stealing) food from her but a great start.

Currently both dogs at my feet in the office. Beau now has the run of the house like Jack.

That sounds really promising Mike. Beau would seem to be off to a great start, especially given how short a time he's been with you so far, and his previously unsettled history.

A day full of odds n' sods today. Just given Mabel a shortish walk, blood test booked for 11.30, look in on some friends' dogs after that, then bike cleaning time followed by house cleaning time.

Sheesh! What an exciting life I lead!

Nice little run out on the bike once I'd cleaned it (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=212692).

I had a small pack of seed potatoes to deliver to someone over in Llanymynech so took the bike as it was warm and dry. Then a roundabout route to Welshpool to pick up a couple of bits of food shopping, and then back home.

A good little loop of about 25 miles. :-D

Morning all. Another sunny day here lots of outdoor stuff to be getting on with. First is a good walk with Mabel, then I need to go in search of some sweet pea seeds as I discovered I don't have any in my seed tin. I also need to pick up some food items I forgot to get yesterday. I think this means I'll need to get the bike out again. :D

How about everyone else? All ok?

Work. Boo!

Went in to the office today and found so much salt and sandy grit on the roads my traction control cut in several times. Quite glad I chose not to go out o the bike on Sunday now.

Morning all. A bit hazy out there at the moment but the forecast is for wall to wall sunshine today. Out for a good walk with Mabel first I think, then a few gardening jobs. If there's still time after that then a couple of hours out on the bike would be in order.

All the salt and grit is now gone from the roads here Trevor. Plenty of farm muck to keep me on my toes though! :-(

How's the day looking for the rest of the .org?

Another day of tests, which I don't really feel like, but it's all in a good cause (hopefully).

Started to tackle the leaking roof light on the motorhome, now its a bit warmer and plastic becomes a little more tolerant to being pulled and prised. Cound not find a relevant Y Tube vid so its a voyage of discovery but so far so good . Hope all is positive Craig

Git in a van cut me up on the M40 this morning, kicking up up grit off the hard shoulder in the process by turning off too late for the junction he almost missed. BANG. Thankfully I only have to wait a week for Autoglass to turn up but I'm down £130 for the insurance excess...

Morning all. Another sunny day in store, at least until about 5pm when we have some rain forecast. A quick walk with Mabel this morning and then off to do some gardening for an old friend.

Not good Trevor but glad it wasn't any worse. Some people drive like cretins on the motorway. I find them quite scary places to be.

Ooof, what a pain. Scary as hell when it happens, too. I've always found Autoglass to be very good, whether doing chip repairs or a full replacement. They did the screen on my lad's 420i a year or so ago, the job was perfect.

I've had mixed experiences with Autoglass, from good to waiting two months for a Focus screen replacement (incompetence and plain lying combined). But you have to use whoever your insurance company uses so...

On another note, Diggerman morphed into Rotavator man today. My well meaning but slightly clueless neighbour bought himself the world's smallest rotavator late last year but it just bounced about on the surface as it was so light. Thankfully the guy they hired to (I assume) prep the ground and sow a new lawn, was using a behemoth of a hired rotavator. So noisy! He's spent the last few hours raking out the worst of the stones and levelling things out, so the terrible post-builders bombsite we've had to look at for the last two summers may actually become a lawn again in time for the warmer weather this year. It looks so much better already so I hope it works out well for next door.
