Done a few runs over the past few days.

Mostly 4 miles. I have also been using a treadmill. Still don't like it but think I could get used to it. To carry on with what I said a long time ago about being able to do faster times on a treadmill.

I did 3.1 miles in 20 minutes 15 seconds.

im about 4 mins faster outside compared to the tredmill over 3 miles

i just did 3 miles in 26.38. which is not too bad, as its only the 2nd run in about 3 weeks.

Bizzarely sitting at work this morning feeling a bit more positive about life, the universe and everything and the idea of going for a run seems quite appealing. But maybe it's just my subconcious reacting to the drudgery of being back at work.

Edit: It's kinda helpful to know I'm not the only one though.

Everyone gets it from time to time, I am like it at the moment. So I just went out and bought some new running shoes and am going to the club tonight so hopefully that'll kick start me again.

I bought some NIKE Equalon+ 3's, they feel great on can't wait for a run in them. Got £9.50 off them too because of my running club membership.

I paid £35 for club membership (including a vest) and so far I have already saved myself £11.50 in discounts, this could work out well. Especially as next year it is only £20 for the year, assuming I am still running.

2mths - Just get out there and get running.......1st step back is the hardest.

'k - I'll try and get out and just do 'something'. Maybe the feeling that if I go out I have to do 7+ miles is putting me off without me realising .

Run round the block mate, anything will help. The whole thing is a vicious circle, if you don't run you feel progressively worse.......and then won't bother running........

I find running gives me a more positive outlook on life!

Just think how energised you'll feel after...

Like me:D Just done a hilly 5, in 42 mins - much faster than Sunday, and feeling much better for it too.

I gotta keep it up now cos.......

Woo-hooo!!!!!!!!! Looks like me and Kev are going to be doing a marathon in October! - Abingdon, Sunday 18 October:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

I might have a bit of a childminding issue, could anyone look after Sophie for me for the day? She'll be 11 by then, she's good company, and will play on her violin (not screechy, she's very good) and Nintendo (much better than me) all day so won't be a problem, just needs feeding and watering at convenient intervals:D

Yeah baby - I'm bringing out the big-guns for another crack at the 26.2 miler.

My secret weapon being ED.....

Did the first of the summer handicap races for Dartford Road Runners last night, but rather than doing a steady run, I went all out and placed 10th in 18.52 for 2.8 miles which is very quick for a little fatty like me, especially as it is a hilly (felt vertical) cross country run.

Today I did a hilly 7 miler earlier in my new shoes, which was nice and very warm.

Calming down now before the terrifying Darent Valley 10k on Sunday, it is the only race I have ever re-run and this will be my 3rd outing. 1st time I scraped in a few seconds under the hour, last time I did it in a few seconds under 49 mins.........it is a real tough race so I have no expectations for this year, but would like to do a decent time as I will be wearing a club vest for the first time!

Hi everyone... I'm a newbie to this thread! :D

I decided recently that I needed to get much fitter. I have a very active job, so it's not a weight issue or anything like that - but I want to improve my cardiovascular fitness and general health.

So, given that my motivation to get started with everything is somewhere around 0 on a scale of 1 to 10, I decided to make the investment in some personal training sessions. I had my first one this morning - though it was mainly an assessment rather than being too much hard work. I really enjoyed it though and I felt invigorated afterwards and I'm looking forward to getting started with it all.

Running is likely to be the major part of my regime as I don't want to have to join a gym. Sunday morning is likely to be my first session and will probably be a walk / run interval type thing. I'm hoping that I'll be able to tell you my tales of more impressive performances in the coming months though... From what I've read, some of you are pretty committed!

For now though, I'm off to get some new trainers - the ones I wore this morning were the ones I used to run in about 7 years ago.

Welcome to the thread :-)

If you are going to get some decent trainers for running on a regular basis then try to get advice from a running shop that will do video gait analysis before you buy them. If you end up with a pair that does not suit your own running style they can do more harm than good, I speak from experience.

Did 7 and a bit miles today in slightly over an hour - 62 mins in fact. Was very warm, over 20C, and progress was a bit slower than I'd hoped for but I didn't mind. Not in it for speed at the moment, that will return with fitness, I don't want to push it and risk injury.

Oh it's great to be running again. Lots of bikes going past, I didn't care because I felt so happy:D

Oh man I'm getting excited now, its been 6 months bloody hard work getting to this point. Seems a little strange that it'll be done on Sunday.

Went for my final weekend run yesterday, 8 miles at a very leasurely pace of 10m00s per mile. I have a couple of sub 4 mile runs this week to keep in shape for the weekend. Plenty of rest from here on in.

Cant wait now.

I ran Darent Valley 10k yesterday, which is a seriously hilly race and not a PB course by any stretch of the imagination. Would've settled for matching last years time of 48:52.

Ran in at 43:50 on my watch and official time of 43:57, which is right as it took quite a few seconds to get over the line at the start.

I was thrilled, not only did I do a Darent Valley PB, but I actually knocked over a minute off of my 10k PB........super run. Finished 90th out of 448. Funny thing is last year that time would've got me a 40th place finish.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would've finished in that time.

Good work Kev. I'm beginning to think that 90% of this running is in the mind. The more I think about the numbers and distances the more difficult it seems to be. If I just run to my comfort level its easier and I tend to go faster overall.

Nice one. I'm still stuck at 1 mile at the moment- I've upped my pace, so I'm doing 9:02 at the fastest, 9:30 at the slowest.

I've tried running further, but my natural pace is now faster, so my lungs struggle with it. Still plugging away. Don't want to run too far yet, as my trainers are well old- can't afford new ones til May. So gotta care for those shins...

Did 4.12 miles today in 28:30. I finally broke the 7 minute mile pace and averaged 6:57. Will see if I can do it for the 5.75 mile run planned for tomorrow.

I think long distance mileage is a no go for me. A shame but there we are. Good luck all of you distance runners. :)

Gonna have to wait til May for shoes- tis chain and sprockets time of the year again! Good luck with the marathon training.

I don't have anyone nearby who wants to run, so I guess that scuppers that idea right away.

I got my run down to 8:55 tonight- even with a short walk to catch my breath (10-20 secs ish). So- very chuffed with that. I think that's why I struggle with my breathing at the moment- my pace is seriously increasing, but my lungs more slowly so!

Going to try longer, probably on Weds- about 1.5 miles and force myself to start slow and pace myself better.

On the back of that though, I did a stonking training session- quite energetic kung fu freehand and weapon practice (hoorah for those lovely sunny evenings in the back garden, sweating my guts out, waving my sword for everyone to see!).

So all in all, I think I'm back on track to the fit times again. Just got the belly to go now and it'll all get easier. I might put it up for sale on Ebay! :D

Just started running agin, started last night. Use the Nike plus system and absolutely love it...

did 8k in two parts 20 min rest at a friends, so really i did 2 4k runs taking 18 mins each, and my god fitness deteriorates rapidly when you do nothing for a while.

I do try and take it easy to start off so try and use first 1 or 2 km as a warm up then try and increase the speed nearing the end of my run, feels like I have to focus more and put a bit more soul into it.

As for my runs, I use the nike plus website to plan my routes, then once doine just upload from my ipod and see how I did where I ran well and where my speed etc. dropped... generally you already know this but when you do the same route again gives you that little more incentive and a target to beat.....

Gonna pop down to London on Saturday morning and register for the run before hopefully chilling out ready for Sunday. I cannot think of a more perfect excuse not to go shopping :-)

Just believe it when you're holding the hardware! You've done a fantastic job already, and glory is just round the corner. My guess is 2-1 on for tears as you cross the line.

GO FLYMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are setting up again in the park today and delivering the portaloo's etc, gives me shivers.......

Good luck to all of you running on Sunday, I will be with you in thought.

I ran home from work last night in the heat, past the bike and then back in again this morning on very tired legs......ouch!

Yep - but I hope to run it for the atmosphere and fun as (with luck) I'll have my marathon time in the bag by then.

Did another 4 mile burst today. 7.11 pace. Was hoping to beat the 7 minute mile average again but legs just felt too tired.

Yes, but seriously doubt it is worth me even entertaining the idea.

Is there a different target you could aim for, long distance is only one aspect of running. Loads of other angles to improve at.

Si, I worry about you. All this speed malarky I mean. And the effect on your knees. Please don't hurt yourself:)

And how do you feel?

feeling pretty confident to be honest. The short runs this week have been extremely easy. I've done 20 miles and could have gone longer and had recovered pretty much within a few hours so I think resonably well prepared.

Diet has been high in carbs all week leading up to the weekend. Trying as much as possible to treat Sunday just like another routine long run and to do what I've been doing for months.

Great stuff!!!! Just don't start off too fast!!! So many people do... you'll catch em up by mile 8 or 9, they'll have slowed to a crawl and you'll go flying past.

Would love to do it with you really:cool:

You can track my progress through the Marathon here (http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/londonmarathon/content/ss09/) or by texting 'RUN' to 83040 from a WAP phone. My runner number is 28887.

Ian, Jo, post your runner numbers here and you can be tracked too.

Ians number is 2954 & Jo is 2895.
with any luck i should come in at about 4.20, depends on the start, last time you had to walk for ages before the pack broke up
Pb for this distance is 3.59 & slowest 4.20
Remember its all a mind game, the head gives up long before the body and the feeling you get on passing over the finish line is fantastic.
As is the first beer

Thats it training finished, nice easy 5 miler completed.
Tip for the finish - try and run over the finishing line on your own if at all possible, that way when your photo is taken you get no sweaty unknown runner with you.

No running for me this weekend, we took MIL home:D:D:D to Falmouth yesterday afternoon, back today. Now knackered after so long on the M5/A30. Hope to get out for a shortish run tomorrow. Mind, I watched some of the marathon on TV this morning, so I was there in proxy. Does that count?

Well done to all of you - super performances, now for the well deserved recovery.

I have been a complete pig this weekend, as it is the last weekend of stuffing my face in gradual preparation for Abingdon in October - signed up whilst watch the FLM on the telly. It almost took me as long to sign up online as it did the winner to run over the line!
