Hey I like this thread:D

Did the same again today, no watch, about the same time. I'll start timing soon enough. Was very cold, and wet. Felt knackered and coughed up some really hideous green gunk.

Congratulations Kev:p The boy done great:cool:

Jeez, Its been windy and raining all day. Got to 4pm and I thought "sod it, I'm going anyway". Opted for a 7 miler at 8:30 pace. I run on the coast so the wind is always a factor, got to 3.5 miles with the wind behind me and all was well. Then I turned around and OMG! A very very tough 3 miles or so to get home.

Pretty chuffed though, feels like a mental victory when you get out in crappy weather and complete a run. Obviously dropped below target pace on the really windy section but other than that only about 2 mins outside my target for the distance. Got the Liverpool Santa Dash next week but its really only a fun run at slow pace....yeah right....on your marks.....!

Well done Mike, it takes guts to keep focus in those tough conditions.

Me - same as Friday, in 23 mins. Slow as a snail but I don't care, the speed will come back (slowly). It was just so great to be out there:grin:

i know what you mean about running on the coast. during the week i run along the prom in worthing. going east is fine but west is hard work, so i normally go west first and east on the way back.

I'm just about to leave work, see if I can run home the long way round - it's 4 miles. I'll be taking it easy. I went and blew £70 on some new kit this afternoon, so no turning back:D

It's always tough to start mate, but keep plugging away and you'll be amazed.

Read through this thread many of us have been running for less than 3 years!

I have done a fair few miles this year and struggled on my run to work this morning, just one of those days.

I would love to be able to run on the coast, although that is bl00dy tough. The closest I get is the Thames!

ED - £70 on kit, nothing like some new kit to get you out the doors, works everytime for me.

Good running all?

1. Pick a time and date suitable to all of us.
2. Syncronise the run so we all start at the same time.
3. Follow any route to 6.21 miles dressed in some form of Xmas attire (with photo proof if possible).
4. Post details on here.

Anyone fancy it?

Anyway, my reason for posting.

Are there any little stocking fillers that a keen runner might appreciate?

I know what you mean about getting out and doing it, Ive not run for about 10 days, its no biggie, life just gets in the way sometimes, you,ll be right :D

I'm not giving up. Just taking a rest. Hey maybe Santa will provide the trainers I need. Went to a running shop and found the trainers I want. Just not at the price they were selling them. I found them on the web for £20 cheaper but it will simply just have to wait.

Time to get the weights out, dust them off, and get cracking again. The abs could do with a bit of a tone up anyway. :)

I don't have any of those socks. Might ask for some for Crimbles.

I ran home from work again today, same longer route = 4 miles. I'm going to get the watch out now, I think I should start timing it. It was very cold - about -1 I think - but dry and little wind, so a nice night for running. Tomorrow I'm in Liverpool, so a rest day as I'm always too tired to do much when I get back home. Except drink!!!

I am a size 8 and always go up 1.5 sizes in running shoes, otherwise I get blisters on the ends of my toes.

Ed, I dont think you'll have any trouble at all. You could train for a full marathon in that time. If your mind is in the right place for this you'll likely walk it (I dont mean literally :-) )

Depends if you are aiming to beat a PB or complete in a reasonable time I guess.

I had no firm plans but was considering it as the timing is about right for my Edinburgh marathon prep. Its pretty handy for me also.

Ed

7 miles sounds a bit too far too soon to me. Thats a fairly long run unless you are conditioned for it. Try reducing the distance to something you can regularly acheive without trouble and build up after you gain confidence. Dont train with somebody that needs to go further or faster than you.

Wanted to replace my slightly worn GT2140s with the GT2150 but was told elsewhere that they were a slightly different shoe.

Anyway, after a 3D laser foot scan at Asics I'm told that the GT2150 (and my earlier 2140 as it happens) are the perfect shoe for me. Nice.

Also found out that my right foot is slightly wider that my left explaining why I occasionally get a blister to that foot. Good advice though and a pretty neat A4 print out telling me all about my feet :-)

do you guys smile/say hello to/wave at/otherwise acknowledge other runners when you are out running?

i do, but sometimes seems like quite an effort to get people to smile back. today was quite a smiley day though and i even got a wave :-D

I always run on my own. I always nod, but rarely get one back, most have wires in their ears and don't even notice me.

I was parked up overnight in my truck once at cherwell valley services on the M40, decided to go for what I thought was a nice short 4 mile run, the guy in the next truck was taking the **** when I was doing my stretches etc, so I set off and dont know quite what happened but I ended up doing nearly 9 miles and wore me nips off into the bargain  which bloody hurt too, went out in a bright yellow T shirt came back in an orange one, still you gotta laugh havent ya ?QUOTE]

Always, because running is really boring without something to break the monotony, varying response though from nothing to big smiles or even an audible sound! Seems to me that faster more serious looking runners don't acknowledge me, but b*ll*cks to them!

I always give a hand gesture or something to acknowledge them. We have after all a common interest which the majority of the general populace do not have. If nothing else it could possibly give encouragement to someone who is maybe having a tough time with thier running and a little nod of appreciation will give them the urge to carry on. At this time of year it can be quite an isolated thing to do.

I had a lonely 14.5 miler this morning on my way to work (the long way round) watched the sun coming up, feel fubar'd now though. Longest run since abingdon.

New shoes were good, but I got a small stone in them about 3 or 4 miles from work, but as it wasn't bothering me too much I didn't stop. Took my socks off before the shower and my foot was covered in blood.

Si - Have they turned up yet?

Ooh I ain't run at all this weekend:(

Fri evening - busy week etc so had a few drinkies:D

Sat - got up late after what turned out to be a bit of a sesh. Had to be dad's taxi from 10.30 to 4, then we had to get ready to go out for er some drinkies. Took child with to drinkies as she was stopping there overnight while we went to a ball. We didn't get home till 2.30am and I think it was 3 or maybe 3.30am by the time I drifted off, only to wake up again at 6 with a raging thirst, and then drifted off at 7am.

Sun - **** we're late!!! Going out to ahem just a few lunchtime drinkies:D up in Ellesmere, got badly held up by hundreds of inconsiderate bloody motorbikes doing some toy run in Shrewsbury town centre, so were late. After, had to go to friends' house at English Frankton (north Shropshire) to fetch child as baysitter had driven her there as they were going out. Not to the same drinkies:D And then had to go to Sainsbos as not a morsel in the house, then to Dobbies to invest in a Christmas tree, and then had a bit of fodder and a few drinkies, then had to put up the sodding tree, and ended the day with some gluhwein:D

Not a running weekend I'm afraid.

I'll make up for it tomoz:D

Thought I'd get back into this thread after not doing much running over the summer, I was concentrating on my cycling for the Nurburgring 24hr team race, and have been cycling to work most of the time ever since. After going out for a 30 minute jog last night I've just signed up for Rotterdam Marathon on the 11th April. So it's back into the running for me, but I still plan to cycle to work 3-4 times a week as I do at the moment, hopefully the two will be compatible.

So onwards and upwards with the training, I'll buy some new shoes back in the UK this christmas as my current ones are getting on a fair bit. Just got to look at getting a training plan together, fit it around the odd ski holiday and get down to a sub 4 hr time, that's my goal.

Wooohooo. Went out at lunch time to do a 3 miler, decided to push it today as the wind had dropped.

Achieved a new personal best of 23m13s, down from 24m30s. Very very happy with that. :-)
