I couldn't get any early NC honda's or any 400cc motor bike in general Lily, they are too peaky and are not good touring bikes, they are race bikes....
Unless all you wanna do it track days...
I want a small bike :-)
want do you reckon would be the best a small early 00's bike for me..... which is why drew has suggested an early daytona 600
Tbh you may be better off with a 600 of some sort, as Tony said 400's are hard to come by now, especially nice ones, but if you want one go for it :thumright:

If you want something "small" buy the bike you want and have it lowered! ha ha

Id start looking at cbr600's, R6's etc and what drew suggested
looking at 2k max (thats how much we will have saved by the time when we want to buy me one)

One of the issues has was the fact that even though lowered, she still found the SV a little too heavy and a little too tall.

Right now dont take this wrong way, but IIRC you dont have a lot of experience so I think you'd be better off staying away from a sportsbike like the GSXR... You want something to build your confidence and skills on rather than jumping in at the deepend...
Really comes down to do you want a bike with clipones or something a little more upright ?

I know its just confidence......just want her to have something she really wants and something she is comfortable with.
For the AR, she has an SV to use if she wishes.....we have looked at the cost of insurance for a month and it is reasonable.......so thinking she may ride the SV every day up until the AR and see how she goes.

A bike will only go as fast as yo want it to by twisting the throttle!

I agree with Drew, they are over priced, they go for stupid money and they might need alot of TLC. I think they are over rated as well.
Just dont think a GSXR if you are starting again after a long lay off from not riding is going to make a good starting point.
As for the height of the bike, well you'll have to find away to ride around it, like I said Liz managed her SV fine, she also manages her Duke fine to...

An age of a bike shouldn't be an issue if it is well maintained, the issue with 400cc bikes are like 125cc or 250cc, they are very peaky and only go anywhere at like 12k rpm!

Your taller than Liz is... like I said she manages her SV & Ducati fine and the Ducati is heavy, it carries its weight differently to the SV. Liz can one foot down on my GSXR, certainly enough that she could ride it if I let her. I have another friend who is 5ft 4ish and had a Ninja 600 that had had the suspension jacked up. She never had a problem with that either...

could get one flat on the side of the stand, was just when upright, I think a lot is to do with confidence that will only come from getting a bike and just getting use to it

Personally I dont think the SV makes a good starter bike, the lumpy V-twin power delivery doesnt help especially if you are just starting out...

Perfect practise makes perfect.
You have always just got to do the miles, do the corners, learn the technique and get the confidence up.
I am just riding Leana around getting used to the slightly heavier Thou' and different power levels

No, go the IL4 route, much much smoother power delivery... plenty of cheap
Bandits
Fazers
Hornets
out there, all make fine bikes to learn and build confidence on and shes tall enough to be able to cope and deal with it, shes just got a confidence issue. Take her round the bike shops let her sit on some bikes, and take it from there.
What you and I might like or feel OK on she might not. Something with a narrow seat on it will work better than a wide one. I.e. Liz cant get her feet down on an R6, but she an on the R1, reason is beacuse the R1 has a narrower seat so she isnt using leg length to stretch over the seat...

No, because V-twins are always reluctant to stall, so, you just shoot forward.
You just got to be a bit smoother, I was like that with the CBF600 at the beginning. I used to dump the clutch somthing rotten, ha ha
