Unfortunately that's how power hungry folk get their support. Tell people that their problems are due to someone else, tell people that someone else is bad, that they are actively making life difficult for you and want to suppress you, vote for me and I'll sort "them" out for you. It has worked in history, everything from 1930's Germany through to 2016 UK referendum and USA presidential election.
There will always be a receptive audience if the propaganda is convincing. Tell people what they want to hear, positive reinforcement, and they'll vote for it. It doesn't have to be true, it doesn't have to be delivered, just providing the votes get the candidate elected for long enough to establish themselves. Some societies are strong enough to enact a correction, some aren't. Some of the elected are brutal enough for it not to be possible.

Very true.
Works even better if you crush their spirits and wellbeing through your actions and policies and then tell them it's due to the bad people. This happens allover the world in one way or another, and to a (less extreme) extent, in our country too.
Important to remember though that not all Russians agree with or support Putin. So it doesn't work 100%

Indeed. And some societies have a proper, balanced electoral system that doesn't give a single party a mandate to do more or less whatever it wants for 5 years.

That sums it up very well. There is some tactic attributed to Nazi propaganda ,can't remember exactly how it goes, but basically accuse the other side of doing exactly that which you are doing yourself, which is what Putin and his henchmen do or a form of that but basically telling barefaced lies .

Yes, isn't some 'trial' due to take place of the opposition leader they poisoned (if he is still alive).

Over £19 to fill up the Suzuki tank yesterday and that was with E10 not E5 petrol. Doesn't seem that long ago that I could fill a bike tank up for about £12 !
eBay - I had someone try and pull a fast one on some Motorcycle panniers i sold in February. They entered a claim with ebay last week claiming not to recognise the transaction (submitted through their payment provider).
Bear in mind they bought this a month previous, and cost was £310 - not something you'd forget or easily miss.
Luckily for me, i always send anything valuable on an insured & fully tracked service with DHL (who also take a photo of the delivery location, even if not delivered). I also take a photo of the goods, in the box, and packaged and the label attached to it.
As the dispute asked for the tracking number (even though i already did on the order tracking) they denied my claim and sided with the buyer!
Unfortunately online you cannot submit evidence/a story with ebay, but thankfully you can call them! and their operatives are very responsive to a call back request.
i managed to speak to someone who was very helpful and helped to object to the decision, using all the information from the tracking page show when & where it was delivered. This was successful and they won't be charging me the refund with no goods to show for it . . . .
Tip of the day - cover your ass and track everything you sell online!

Just forwarded DJs message to the lad who works for an internet based company - says false claims are about one a day. Amazon have just refunded a £2000 laptop and now they will have a job to get the money back. Its only a 4 person company so not large
Theiving scrotes. Got in my van and door open warning light on.checked and back door left ajar.
Bosch sds drill gone. They must have been disturbed or just grabbed what they thought was worth something. Ironically there was a brand new jcb sds drill next to it that wasn’t taken and actually worth more but the Bosch had all the sds bits in it which is quite annoying.
Just glad they didn’t take the snap on ratchet set that was under a load of dust sheets!
No damage to the lock, I’d been to the van that night and think it mustn’t have locked properly when I pressed the fob.

These days they're too quick to make a decision based off very little 'evidence'. I mean companies like eBay & Amazon are big enough to absorb cases like these they cause.
But when they try going after the sellers for the money based off something they're not able to defend against/claim against it's ridiculous. Their decision should be made of evidence supplier by the seller to counter the claim of any issues raised, or the courier if it's a delivery issue.

Talk of 'negotiations ' between Russia and Ukraine. Putin doesn't negotiate, he just insists Ukraine comply with all his demands ,that isn't negotiating, it's blackmail. And even if Ukraine did agree something with Russia who could trust Putin to stand by his word. The Russians are unbelievable liars, turning everything on its head to make it appear they are the victims.

My lawn looks like (I assume) Mariupol does. We have a badger sett nearby and the sodding things have been ripping my lawn to shreds! I'm not a slave to it but scarifying, hardening, fertilising, weeding and regular cutting during the growing season last year means the grass looks reasonable for the end of winter, for a change, but not today. And they use my pond as a drinking fountain, knocking the plants off the shelf into the deep (cold) water that breaks the growing stems off.... Gits!!

Received quotations for gas and electricity contract renewal with eon comprising several options and tariffs which make it very confusing to choose the best deal for me. Some amount to more than £3000 a year which is staggering. I thought 1 year fixed deals were supposed to be the cheapest be they now seem the most expensive.

The response was 'it's not in stock'. (me) But your website even today shows they are! (them) oh, but that's wrong. (me) So you've not bothered to update it, or notify customers? (them) no. they're due in stock next week . . . . (me) fine, i'll wait.

In that case can't you get an alternative quotation? I am with a broker and find that when renewal is due, if the company I was with raises the premium too much the broker gets a cheaper quotation from another company. You don't seem to get favourable treatment for loyalty from some companies !

Perhaps rather than wasting money on willy-waving, mind-bogglingly over-budget, environmentally destructive projects like HS2, the money would be better invested in providing for some redundancy in the existing rail network.
Damage to the overhead cables just outside New Street in Birmingham has meant cancellation of almost all services between there and Shrewsbury and the few remaining trains backed up with nowhere to go or running at least half an hour late.
Grrrr.....

Grrrr.....The early announcements said there was a bridge collapse, later it changed to problems with overhead electric cabling.
New St was absolute chaos yesterday. 4 trains worth of people squeezed into platform 7 with conflicting information from staff, announcers and info boards.
The train stranded at the station was either going to Walsall or B'ham airport it was unclear which was correct.
My train was waiting for the current train to depart, the info board showing its arrival time undating by a minute every minute. There was announcement saying a different platform, the staff said the announcement was wrong (it wasn't).
You'd think that with the frequency of problems they would, at least, have a system in place to inform their customers on what the frack was going on.
On the plus side the trip was free after being 34 minutes late and met some nice people who you normally wouldn't talk to. Like a 12 year old who had an encyclopedic knowledge of the rail network around Birmingham and was a lot more accurate about the likely outcome than any of the staff.

My gripe. Recently aquired a bike that in my recent financial situation I could afford to own. Obviously lost a lot of work and now have to be realsitic and let it go. Only there's not a sniff of interest in it apart from two low offers. One from a dealer, so I know I have some security passing it on. But adding insult to injury and losing a lot of money on a bike in a few weeks the same time as being hit with loss of work is really stinging.

I managed (by chance/luck) last Sept to get a fixed energy contract until October this year. When I come off that and get the next increase on top of the April one it'll be a huge hit, probably doubling, not looking forward to that.

maybe the gov handouts are stopping.Probably because the wholesale cost has increased and leccy is sold at the wholesale price regardless of where it's generated.
On the plus side it makes renewable energy more profitable therefore quicker to recover the infrastructure costs, so it should lead to less burning of fossil fuel in the future.
Wholesale price isn't going to come down soon and may go up again in October.

The rest of the standing charge increase being due to the bail out of all those suppliers that went bankrupt.

Laptop battery. I bought a Duracell laptop battery (because it was a branded name) on March 18th 2021. 53 weeks later it has failed, it has a 52 week warranty. Either I'm unlucky or Duracell have their warranty calculations down to a fine art.
I've contacted them anyway to see if they'll cover it. It says it's fully charged but dies immediately the power cable is removed which means a cell has probably died (says google).
I learned a new command though (which I'll have forgotten by tomorrow):
powercfg /batteryreport
which leaves an HTML file in your users directory describing the state of your battery. Interestingly my old super heavy duty battery that I've reverted to using is supposed to be 71280mW/h but it's now 36374mW/h which is probably why I replaced it. It demonstrates another characteristic of a failed cell - it counts down its available charge to about 20% and then, within a minute, is fully depleted.

My drill battery has failed - can I get a replacement, no - looked into replacing the cells myself £7+ per cell need 5 = £35. The drill complete £30 (Aldi) This is wanton throw away- Loads nearly fit, surely a case for universal fitting being made compulsory. I read that an early range of Aldi multi fit Ferrex power tool batteries had been discontinued as well.
Don't get hung up on warranty periods. There's a fair bit of law that may be able to help you if they don't come back with a helpful suggestion and you need to be more forceful.
The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (see Section 14, as amended by Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994) requires items to have "fitness for purpose", based on the judgement of a reasonable person. There's also stuff in the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including similar terms about judging "satisfactory quality" and a further 'reasonably fit for purpose" expectation.
I think it's entirely reasonable to expect a satisfactory lifespan for a laptop rechargeable battery to be greater than 53 weeks before total failure so I'd petition them on that basis to have it replaced for free.
"Out of warranty" is not a defence against statutory obligation on the seller, even out of warranty you can still reject an item that's "not of satisfactory quality" or "not fit for purpose" and demand replacement at least (possibly even full refund by virtue of cancelling the sale contract - but that probably needs a proper lawyer to deal with other aspects of the relevant legislation. Also <pedant> I'm assuming that you didn't agree to waive statutory rights - but that's unlikely, and even then I'd be awkward and at least try to claim that it was an unfair contract if it was only buried in small print.)
The law is not just for lawyers - research your rights, build the claim and have a go!:)

See my post today on hugger. That was my argument, that if an item fails /cracks due to a design fault ( not enough clearance between hugger and part of original bike in my hugger case) it is not fit for purpose. I am not going to lose any sleep over it but it would be nice if my argument was accepted. (or maybe the design only allowed for suspension compression for a rider up to a certain weight !!!)

Another bit of a gripe. If my rear shock absorber replacement is fixed under warranty almost as soon as the part is expected to arrive at the dealer next week , my bike will have been off the road for 4 weeks. If I had still been working and it was my only means of transport that could have been a real problem. Should there be some form of compensation for these sort of situations or the offer of a temporary loan bike ?!!!
As it happens I am retired but even so I didn't buy a brand new bike to not have use of it for a month in Spring.
unfortunately not. Usually warranty claims/fixes have not come back/alley for claiming extra incurred expenses, loss of earning s etc.
Dealer discretion is probably used, and i guess at their cost too.
Health and safety.
Literally just nearly ran over a man that went to run out in front of my van, trying to retrieve his safety hat that had blown off his head in the wind. Oh the irony

Part of me (not surprisingly) wants to laugh at that but I'm sure it put the wind up you at the time (no pun intended).

i am losing faith with Suzuki. Replacement shock absorber was supposed to arrive at Suzuki GB on 10th April but still no sign of it. Been off the road over 4 weeks now since Suzuki dealer diagnosed it was faulty. Not what you want with a new bike.I have had at least 10 used bikes since 1997 and none was off the road this length of time for repair. in fact apart from a replacement ignition switch on a Yamaha bulldog and a stator on a kawasaki 900 vulcan I can't think of any other repairs required ,just routine maintenance and servicing.
So much for buying new !

It must be annoying but China is in lockdown, shipping containers are in the wrong places and shipping generally is suffering delays from pandemic related causes. Meanwhile, P&O ferries are still not working 100% and there are big tailbacks at Dover. Somewhere in that mess is your shock.
After an initial issue with my 2016 AL7, it has been fault free and remains the best bike I have owned and far nicer to ride than the Z900RS. Now at 33k miles - I've never owned a bike long enough before to put a flat on the gear lever rubber. :)
Couldn't you have continued to ride the bike whilst the new shock was on order or was the old shock dangerously bad?

it wasn't pleasant riding it ,i thought i had a puncture at first. not sure how dangerous it might be.
more OVO woes... deducting standing charges monthly when billing cycles are 1/4ly. bunch of con artists.
Here, on the abandonned south bank of the Humber, we are a bit behind the times. We don't (yet) have traffic lights on roundabouts although they did talk about it (not sure what happened after the talk). Today, though I learned about a new traffic hazard we haven't got: a Bus Gate.
The Bus Gate is not in the Highway Code and is, I think, a bit of paint on the road that is supposed to represent a real gate that only buses may go through (other vehicles may be authorised). It is backed up by a camera system for revenue purposes or traffic safety (you choose).
Sometimes living in a backwater can be a good thing although it makes venturing out into civilisation a risky business, not to mention expensive.
Seems odd that a traffic control system is in use without it being mentioned in the Highway Code.

Wouldn't it need to be mentioned in the RTA for them to be able to prosecute?
Edit: Just looked it up. It's just a short bus lane.

Is it also a bus lane? You don't need much signage for that.

My wife found an "amazing quiet route" home from work last year.. only to find out about these via a fine that came through the post.

Cast your mind back 2 or 3 years. Do you remember hearing about a strange new virus that was killing people in China?
Deja vu and time for a replay, perhaps:

Maybe the planet is trying to tell us something?

update on the shock absorber - just been informed suzuki shock is not arriving in germany until june - suzuki customer care might consider some goodwill gesture for inconvenience caused by delay but only if genuine suzuki shock fitted - told them I can't wait until june or later , so can I arrange for suzuki dealer to fit another brand of shock absorber. they will only consider goodwill gesture after part fitted and it has to be genuine suzuki. so catch 22 situation !!! customer care did say if suzuki dealer does fit another shock and I want some sort of compensation/goodwill gesture ,the dealer would have to speak to the suzuki warranty team.
I noticed a small bulge in the kitchen ceiling this morning. I guessed a water leak from the bathroom above and that proved to be the case.
The hot pipe feeding the bath tap has a tiny seepage that's clearly been going on for years judging by limescale and verdigris.
So off to Wickes for some parts and I get caught up in the local 'Bike for Life'. Traffic chaos.
Leak now fixed, just the ceiling to repair :(
So much for my plans to take Mr Honda out for a spin.
