That's for the manufacturer to do, shops are just there to resell a product. By that logic you'd be arguing with Tesco that most people find Glenn's bargain bucket vodka too disgusting to drink without a cocacola additive and you'd find shelf stackers sellotaping cans of coke to vodka bottles on the shelves and upping the price.
If you were to part ex that bike and they noticed the seat (& it's value) they will absolutely take it off before selling to the next customer. I'm not saying it's right, but that's how it goes - and I do see the shops side to some extent, some people are really anal about bikes being standard or unmodified (insurance?) it might actually work against their sale. Not to mention, I'm afraid ,seats probably don't add too much to the purchase value imagine someone shopping for an SV (that doesn't know about the SV Pilesyndrome) 'I want to spend £5000', filter results to £5k... they never see the £5500 bike with the fancy seat or if they do happen to glance it they may not notice the seat and think "that shop's so expensive I can get an SV for £500 less 10 miles down the road".
Don't know bout cheap vodka, beer is strong enough for me ;but there seems to be some confusion over the seat. What seat, what value ? My seat is just the original seat and cover with a gel insert added, nobody could tell any difference just looking at it - the dealer would have no reason to take it off !

Just buy a Bagster seat. Looks comfy - pics on US SV site: https://www.svrider.com/threads/another-seat-option.395797/page-2
Does it raise the seat height? Dunno. Pretty much any bike you buy (other than a cruiser which has other comfort issues) will have a taller seat than the SV (AL7 onwards).
Isn't the Bagster seat the one with the stitching that lets water in ? The specialist seat upholsterer I know says they should have stuck to making tank covers ! Might 'look' comfy but is it ? There are also complaints about the cover being slippery and sloping towards the tank in the comments on the other site.
Think I might take the plunge and go for a full monty comfy upgrade by the seat upholsterer and ,if needed , fit Lust lowering links with the corresponding front fork adjustments. Apparently you can have the 25mm lowering kit without any need to shorten the side stand ,it is only the 40mm lowering option that requires the side stand shortening -according to my dealer who says he has done a lot of them (probably on the V Strom I would think )
So you might have to put up with me a bit longer after all :)

You can stay on forum if you get a Triumph
Haven't sold it anyway. Started looking at other bikes and haven't found one I really want in my price range. They are all around £10,000 now which is more than I would want to pay for a bike - and then you start looking at the usual modifications I like to make such as fender extender, rear hugger, engine bungs or crash bars, luggage rack ,radiator guard, Scottoiler (at least swap over from old bike ),probably mirror extenders, tank pad - and then selling these sort of extras taken off the old bike. Quite a bit of hassle and expensive swapping bikes isn't it really !
Why can't you apply for vehicle tax for the next month? I want to get it taxed for May (tomorrow) and it is trying to charge me from the 1st of April! What a jokeReally! You can apply for tax to start next month 2 days before. I did that on the DVLA website on March 30 for start in April. I was given the choice of two start dates, April 1st or March 1st, any earlier and you don't get that option.

It did make it slightly better but not by much ;but to be fair to the upholsterer I said I didn't want the seat raising by much and the gel insert was the simplest alteration he could make and we would see how it went before making any more drastic changes to the seat. Further alterations with reshaping and more padding will probably require recovering the seat, so a different ball game.

Won't surprise me if they try. Bit fed up with the hassle of hire vans, so just now shopping for a towbar and a cheap used trailer.
Don't really like griping as a rule but ... my wife very thoughtfully bought me an Oxford Stormex bike cover for my pride and joy of which I was very pleased with and grateful for. However... although it has performed it's task admirably in keeping the elements away from the bike, it has also rubbed through the paint in couple of places on the fairing nose! Not what I expected tbh from what is perceived as a pretty decent product which has a nice soft inner lining.
Can't really figure out how it's happened as it fits like a glove so zero flapping about in windy conditions. Bit miffed now as it's got to have paint correction to an otherwise mint paint job.
Hastings insurance renewal rant. My policy was up for renewal, it had dropped by a few quid and is only £110 so "it'll do". I was invited to review the details but noticed that my debit card had changed since last year so I tried to change it - I couldn't. They asked me to review my interaction - so I did and wrote this:
I receive an email inviting me to log in, review my motorcycle policy and make changes if necessary. I log in because my debit card has changed but I can't change that on the website. I click on the text help but that isn't available. I call in and have to listen to one of the longest preambles I've ever heard (at my expense). Finally enter my policy number only to have to listen to another preamble (postamble? lol) which sounded similar to the first one - I was wishing for death by this point. Finally speak to Kate who was helpful but I had to give my policy number again (so why ask the first time?). No, she couldn't just change the card, I had to pay for the policy upfront although the policy will renew at the correct date. Kate was fine, getting to speak to Kate via your useless website and phone system was not.
I gave them 2 out of 10 for "How easy was it to renew your policy". I felt this was more than generous.

Raise a formal complaint, in my experience they almost always give you a cheque for £25.
The same thing happened to me but the policy lapsed as a result and as a result they can't honour the renewal price, had to start a whole new quote - it was a couple of quid more but really annoying as it meant I couldn't ride that weekend. They gave me about £100 after complaining.

They do not give up! Another call from some idiot saying my computer was generating errors. I strung him along until my sourdough bake required attention so I asked him if his Mum and Dad were proud of him - silence, After a pause he said 'pardon' I repeated my question, again silence, after a few seconds I cleared the phone down.

Gave myself a couple of hours off today to go find some paths with the DRZ. Spent most of it sitting in Castle Combe waiting to be rescued. Taunted by the sound of inline fours enjoying a track day in the background.
20 minutes into the ride and the dash went blank. Pulled into Castle Combe track car park to see what was wrong. Turned off engine and then it wouldn't turn on again. No cranking, nothing. Pushed it along the road to try and find a hill for a bump start. Ended up walking about a mile. Even a light bike is heavy when you're pushing it! Then found a big hill to roll down. Successful bump start and then a bus pulled out of a side road. Quick braking led to stalling and then the engine wouldn't start again. Now down the bottom of the hill there was nothing else I could do. An hour later my wife picked me up. Lift home then out again to get the van and recover the bike. Very frustrating "morning off". Back to work now and then some diagnosis of electrics to look forward to on my next day off. I'm not ruling out the new battery I got being duff at this point. On the charger it's showing over 12 volts but it's not getting above on bar out of 4 after three hours of charging.

Approaching a chicane in the road in a local village today on the Suzuki and I have the right of way as shown by big white arrow on sign - see pick up truck (like farmers use ) approaching from other direction but he doesn't look to be slowing down - do I accelerate to get past chicane before he gets there or assume he will actually slow down when he sees me on the single lane - I proceed at same normal speed but he doesn't slow down and charges past forcing me as far to side of single lane as I can go with a sideways ' f**k you motorcyclist ' type nod of his head as he goes past.

Battery eventually started to show some evidence of holding charge late last night. Pulled the seat and panels off bike when I got home today for a quick inspection and relieved to find the connector from the stator to the reg/reg had popped open. Back together with a good bend of the locating tang to hold it tight and it all fired up and works fine again. I must have disturbed it removing the shock for the new spring. Also cleaned some white dust corrosion out of a couple of old fuse holders and sprayed a few connectors. I couldn't work out why the electrics had failed after I've done so much work on it with new stator and hard wiring to the battery from reg/rec etc. Glad it turned out to be something simple and not a weekend of diagnosing mystery problems.

Moved into my new home Tuesday
Plusnet buggered up the Broadband switch from my previous place, so no internet until the 12th May
Plugged in my Sky box, no signal from Satellite. Worked fine at my previous address. No TV aerial at my new address.
Watched a 45min show using my phone as a hotspot for my TV, used up 2gb data on my 6gb plan!
Plusnet will compensate me for this mobile data usage, but it's a PITA this technology!

Done something to my left wrist, after splitting a pile of logs this morning. It was ok until a couple of hours later, now it's quite swollen and very painful to the point that I can barely use my left hand.
Hope it's ok by the morning as I have to drive to Telford for a practise run for an event the following weekend.
Food, paracetamol, and sit in front of a warm stove this evening as it's actually made me feel a bit ill.

I had a home made curry the other day with some in it, but aside from that, no!
I've had the ice pack on it again and the paracetamol has kicked in properly now, so although it's still very stiff and a bit achey it's nowhere near as painful as it was.

Reflect on that one for self preservation. You can't trust your mirrors , especially when taking off - a vehicle shouldn't have been able to get past a shoulder check.
Not pointing it out to be an ****, obviously the car should have anticipated what you were about to do and is a tw4t but make sure you are instinctively doing lifesavers so you're not splatted in the future.
All taken in the right way. My last check was a queue of cars behind me in a 50mph limit and they were quite some way off as the Nissan I had passed earlier was very slow. The Jag wasn't part of the line up that I could see.

That is naughtier of the jag than I imagined. If you were sure it was clear behind I can see why you omitted it, a good reminder of the importance for me there too.
But yes, any deviation in positioning I'll shoulder check. And especially when taking off from standstill (I was taught to do both sides in that scenario). Appreciate you are rolling not at standstill though.
I thought it easier if you could see. He was easily going 60+ and was on me before I realised what was happening. Its on the A140 which is a notoriously crappy road.

I had a similar episode many years ago in the car. I stopped in front of some parked cars in a narrow road to allow an oncoming car through. I was just about to pull out to go around the cars when I was overtaken. Clearly the car overtaking me thought I was just another parked car even though I was sitting nearer the crown of the road.
As my dad used to say "treat all other road users as idiots"

My unlovely Compaq laptop will be going to the big recycling centre after completely fecking me off this morning, either a Win10 update caused it not only to lose its activation code, but not able to play sound or use the mic.
Not usually a problem, but I had an international webbex conference call when it decided to do this. Bluetooth also disappeared, had to plug in a Bluetooth dongle, which worked for 10 mins, then stopped working. This is after I'd installed webbex at the start of the meeting, video was running fine, but no sound.
So I spent the next hour and a half watching presentations in silence, and unable to contribute or ask questions.
No issues in device manager, plugged another Bluetooth dongle after the meeting had finished, and hey presto Bluetooth now working :-(
It is an ancient laptop, but worked fine on the last conference call. I have to use my own laptop, as my official laptop won't allow webbex meetings as we use Teams and Skype. I can't install webbex on my official laptop.

My gripe is the fact that the UK allows anyone in the world to buy a domain name that sounds like it's a UK company.

This company ships its batteries (or at least the one I ordered) from Hong Kong. Had I checked on the "contact us" page I would have spotted it and ordered from elsewhere. Estimated time to arrive is another 2 weeks and it's already been over 1 week.

It depends on the top level, I think .co.uk 's have some vetting. Orgs are pretty much unchecked but are supposed to be reserverd for charities/non-profits I think, I would query a commercial company using a org.uk or .org
i have several domains .co.uk and .com and have never once been asked to provide proof of a company. registering a domain is not the same as registering a company. its a domain name and up to the holder to do what they please with it unless for fraudulent or other nature. i can also trade all over the world with a .co.uk domain so same goes for other country's. its search engines like google who try and keep it geographic or .com for its users.
but yes its a bit cheeky using a uk domain if you stay in china.

You'll want to avoid XL moto then. They're based in Poland and have a UK website address. Supposedly to make it easier for UK customers to find them rather than deceive anyone into believing they're based in the UK. Pretty blatantly the same thing though. A friend of mine's brother was a bee keeper and found a wasp nest in a neighbours compost heap, killed them by misting it with petrol.
This may be a method of killing your wasps without harming the bees, although if they are close together the fumes might be harmful to the bees.

The Dutch are the hosts, so use Webbex, but the French can't, they use Teams, so they don't participate.
I'm not sure how many of my counterparts are using their own equipment to join these meetings, judging by the videos, most were at home
Let's go back to the face to face meetings, so much simpler and more got done over a beer afterwards

Phoned insurance to make some changes today, only to find out that they had no record of the bike. After a bit of investigation it seems they removed it from my policy last December after I made a call to them with some inquiries, which I decided to not go ahead with. They claim they didn't hear back from me so removed the bike.
I *might* have been riding it on and off for the last few months. Not happy. Glad I phoned them and didn't carry on riding blissfully unaware until September when the (multi-bike) policy ends.

That sux. I've become very wary of insurance companies since a couple of years ago I found out the actual company I was insured with through the usually comparison/broker sites had gone bust. I was still insured but I only found out by contacting the Broker Insurance company, they didn't tell me which I would have liked.
Since then I bookmarked and regularly check on these,

I use the askMID site. Strangely the bike in question is still showing as insured on there, even though it's now definitely not. One that I have definitely got insured is showing as not.

The weather taking the absolute p1$$. Rain over night. Then starts to dry up this morning. Sun comes out and it chucks it down for about 2 minutes. Everything saturated again.
I've been trying to get out for a ride and every time I'm ready there's a torrential downpour that lasts a couple of minutes... then sunshine.. and repeat all day so far.

Same here an' all today. Glad I had a good long spin out yesterday when it was dry the whole way.
Up the the end of April was good weather, then I had the first week of May off and it rained a lot.

Today is sent to test me. Bought 3 Hermes labels. Decided to print at drop off shop as printer is dodgy and winds me up at home. Got to drop off shop and scanned the QR code they gave me when I checked out online at home. It printed one label! I'd bought three! All in one transaction. Person at counter said it happens a lot and you need to check out separately for each label you buy otherwise it just gives you a QR code for the last one on it's own. Had to go back home and reprint the remaining two and then back to the drop off shop.
So take note. If you buy Hermes postage online and buy a few labels at once, pay for them one at a time to get separate QR codes to print the labels in store.
I wouldn't have minded the journeys so much if I'd been on the bike but I was in the van as it's chucking it down again... no wait, it's sunny... no it's raining again... er, sunny.. biblical....

Yep, I was out planting stuff in the veg beds and several times had to make a dash for the greenhouse.
Something nice about being in a greenhouse or polytunnel and listening to it hammering down outside.

I imagine our fellow forummers are covering up, it's just the mere sound of even a responsibly caught cough or sneeze causing people go on high alert... forgetting we've been coughing and sneezing for reasons other than covid for quite a long while before now.

Well, it's been overcast and raining but nothing bad enough to affect tv reception I would have thought. Anyway ,it's raining on track now (replay of course ) and they are 'all' sliding off !

I did one of those lateral flow self tests and now my throat hurts. Must have been a bit too vigorous with the swab. Eight more minutes until I can count the currently negative result.
My gripe is the fact that the UK allows anyone in the world to buy a domain name that sounds like it's a UK company.
https://www.laptop-battery.org.uk/
This company ships its batteries (or at least the one I ordered) from Hong Kong. Had I checked on the "contact us" page I would have spotted it and ordered from elsewhere. Estimated time to arrive is another 2 weeks and it's already been over 1 week.
well, the battery arrived and...
...it doesn't work. :(
It won't power up the laptop, when the charger is plugged in it says it has 88% charge but the charger doesn't get warm and never changes from 88%. If they've followed the same colour code on their battery as Lenovo then they have the wires crossed. I'd need to cut the wires and cross connect them to fix it since the pins aren't removable from the mini plug and since I don't know what the pin out is anyway, it would be a gamble so I'm a bit stuck.
I'm sure this is why China's GDP is so high - you have to order two to get one that works.

I know somebody who bought a brand new Africa Twin 2 or 3 years ago and he had a lot of trouble with it (heated grips and wheels I think he mentioned, might have been other things as well, can't remember exactly ) that the dealer couldn't fix without it being sent back to Honda. I assume he got it all sorted out eventually by Honda. He was loaned a Honda CB1100 while it was away - he didn't sound particularly impressed with the CB1100 when I asked him, but maybe just not his style of bike.

People who post unhelpful answers on questions on either FB groups, Amazon, or other sites.
I don't understand someone who reads a question, know they have no helpful advise at all & yet still decides they need to let that person know they don't know. I mean, what is the point posting; 'i don't know/ no idea/ sorry can't help.
Do these people not realise this is the internet and the person can't see you read their question, so they're not expecting you to answer regardless whether you have knowledge or not.

In medieval times a village would typically be 50-100 people and one village idiot.
As we progressed and built bigger towns then the pub would be able to serve several hundreds of people but sat in the corner would be a guy who "knows things" and will tell anyone in earshot - the incarnation of the village idiot. We were relatively safe because the village idiots couldn't easily talk to each other.
Then came the internet and Facebook. Bam! All the village idiots in the world can now chat, build conspiracies and offer advice. The voice of reason, logic and common sense is drowned out in a rising babble of nonsense given equal airtime to plausibility and the truth.
