So I had a mashed up chain guard bolt on the SV, decided to finally remove it, bought new bolts and tried the PH3 & PZ3, PH3 seemed to have a decent fit but nope, just made it worst. I thought ok well i'll just saw a nice big line down the middle and use a big flathead, sawed something nice, file a bit to get a slightly wider slot for my biggest flat head and bahm, the whole head breaks off. So I think, no panic, I took off the rear pegs, cut the chain guard to bits (I was looking for a good excuse to get a hugger anyways), and now it's properly flush, I bought some left handed drill bits hoping to drill into it next week. Any advice? I don't have a welder I'm a bit out of ideas now... I guess I can proabbly fit the hugger without that screw but would be nice to have it out....

Wondering, is riidng without a chain guard *that* bad? The hugger comes next week.

28-01-15, 10:14 AM
I rode without one for a while, it fell off without my knowledge, I waited around a week for a new one once i had noticed, the only difference is the chain lube when fresh - it goes everywhere!

And its probably dangerous

ophic
28-01-15, 11:12 AM
And its probably dangerous
I can't imagine that little bit of plastic giving much in the way of protection. Snapped chains at motorway speeds are rumoured to be able to take your leg off.

Corny Gizmo
28-01-15, 11:35 AM
True but it'll offer at least a deflection for the chain to hit first - taking some force out of it

But yeah probably doesn't make a difference

atassiedevil
28-01-15, 11:42 AM
They can. Therefore anything that slows it down to a less than catastrophic speed the better.
Metal chain guards are actually worse. They'd fracture, continue travelling and being metal and sharp edged be part of the problem. The plastic ones will deform and direct the chain into the wheel at best, which should at least decelerate it a little.

Lycra louts

stuck in stationary traffic near the entrance to chorley hospital, heard a siren, look in mirror and an ambulance on blues is trying to fight its way through. I pull over to the side to help make a gap. 30 seconds later as ambulance passes banging on my roof, and mirror folded in by a lycra lout as he couldn't pass me on the inside.

The M40. I know it's a bit of a general gripe but this is the second Monday in a row that it's been closed due to accidents in the early morning rush. Two fatalities last week and the local online rag says just a minor today, although the fire service were de-roofing a car when I eventually crawled past the scene after 40 minutes stationary. Hour late for work, probably down to some muppet not paying attention.

Policing by stealth.

1) The new motorway speed cameras are designed to be hidden, and the Highways Agency is refusing to detail where they will be located, "for operational reasons". So it's clearly no longer got anything to do with improving road safety.

2) I've passed a few cars pulled over by the police recently, and in every case it's been an unmarked police car. The only marked cars I've seen recently are the Highways Agency vehicles. Has anyone else noticed this??

So much for elected police commissioners improving accountability!!

wife's clio, electrical fault warning light comes on, goes into limp mode. turn off engine and all is fine

ECU has nothing showing as a fault. lots of this on the internet. So checked all connections to ECU and sprayed cleaner. Manifold off and throttle body removed and soaked with carb cleaner although it did look to be in reasonable condition in the first place.

Seems to be running alright, but the last time it happened I reseated the ecu connections and all was good for 3 months. So best get it running ok and get rid quick.

If I offer a clio on the org. don't buy

I bought a Bluetooth ODB2 adapter off ebay for £6 last week, connect it your phone and use an app called Torque. This will allow you to see and maybe clear the fault codes.
Might not work but for less than a tenner for the adapter and the app it's worth a shot.

I remembered what annoyed me last night! At a pay at pump petrol station, whip out my card, ram it in the card slot, fire off my pin and start to fill up. Suddenly the pump stops and a lady over the tannoy tells me to take off my helmet, to pump fuel, that I have already paid for. So after some gesturing I took off my helmet, but as it was cold I was wearing my balaclava, however apparently this is fine as the pump was reactivated, so what was the point of this?

She was on automatic mode, they've been told to enforce it, even though you've validated your card & would be paying for the fuel.

Stems from riders not paying for fuel.

Bet she doesn't even know why, she just has to, even if you had a flip front helmet.

Its been mention on here before, just accept it & move on, its not worth worrying about.

I'm not trying to defend the driver, I was just pointing out that you nearly came to grief because of a very easily made mistake on their part. As you say it's their "blind spot" so you should be expecting and allowing for them not to see you in it.

Perhaps it's just the way we look at things differently. If I had been "nearly" side swiped my gripe of the day would be with myself for allowing it to happen, if on the other hand a car driver moved lanes without any apparent awareness of my presence I'd be congratulating myself for having the presence of mind to have anticipated it happening and it being a complete non-event..... ;)

Ordered a new mobile (old one was smashed in December accident and I've been using a Nokia brick since then) as I've finally saved up enough. It arrived with free next day delivery (ordered at 5pm last night), however all three anti tamper seals have been broken, the screen cover peeled off and stuck back down and the usb slot damaged - suspicious or what? Now I have to return it, have it processed then hopefully get a new one sent out. unfortunately the timescale of this means that it will arrive next week, so no one will be here so I will have to wait until the following weekend. Why can't I have nice things :(

Also I'm having two today, and if you don't like it, well you know the thread to post that in! One of my license plate bolts fell out on the way to work today. I checked everything for tightness Friday when I got the bike and it was tight, but now my nut and bolt (plastic) are rolling about the M4, not cool! Bill please be careful, all this unpatriotic talk will be bringing you to the attention of the authorities. Have you seen any strange helicopters hovering locally lately? or even worse a drone!

LOL, If I see a drone I'll dress up as a muslim.
That way I know I'll be safe! ;)

(Truthfully, better watch those muslim jokes though)

Morons on the road who think two wrongs make a right. To the Volvo driver who pulled out into lane two of the M40 behind me this morning flashing his lights, shouting and gesturing, clearly upset that I had moments before been inches from his rear bumper - I was only there because you cut me up you bell end and had to brake hard to avoid hitting you. The second bout of bad driving was as bad as the first. Perhaps if you look AND INDICATE before you change lanes in future you won't have to get so worked up at your own incompetence. You seemed quite happy sitting behind that truck at 60 for so long so when you suddenly changed lanes just as I was almost level with you was inexcusable.

Pass the blood pressure pills.

Kwik fit. Useless bunch of f**kwits. Why the hell was I ever so stupid to take my car to them?
