Sleepovers.
Why are they called that?
Daughter had a friend over for a "sleepover"
I have vivid memories of one of the Munchkin's "sleepovers". Four of them in total all in the sitting room laid out on the seat cushions dragged off the chairs. Lady Poppy told them all to pipe down at midnight and at 1am I crashed about the house moving furniture around before bursting in* to point out there was now space for them to be separated into diffrrent rooms where they would all be on the hard floor if they did not SHUT UP!
Not a peep from any of them after that for the rest of tbe night and the two she is still in touch with both remeber it as well as I do :D
*before anyone asks, yes I was dressed at the time so it was not that sort of trauma that shut them up.

Greater Anglia stopping their service at 10pm last night and running few if any trains today even though it's dry with bright sunshine and no snow at all. They had to close the station at Chelmsford as there were so many angry people there. Luckily I'd already made arrangements to work from home. However I do need to be in tomorrow and apparently there are no trains until Friday!

The train companies are taking the wee wee. They claim to be stopping services early to run empty trains over the night to prevent frost. Surely trains with people on board would have the same effect?

£117 to have the parking light fixed on my car - and that's not even at the main dealer. £28 for the light bulb and bracket, the rest is 90 minutes labour. BMW basically build the car around the bulb and then if you need to change it the whole car has to be dismantled!

Yes, I wasn't happy that the Felixstowe to Ipswich trains were cancelled to ensure the main line was kept clear for the Norwich to London trains to run, and then be cancelled as Lph said. Meant I had to drive in a blizzard from home to Ipswich, and catch an earlier train to make sure I made my connection at Euston. As Lph said loads of folk at Chelmsford trying to get on the train, but no room on mine, which was delayed because they were worried about our Safety on an overloaded train, because other London trains had been cancelled. Chicken and the egg situation.

Jeez, that took me back. I was hooked on Gerry Anderson's programs: Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds (never keen on Joe90), Captain Scarlet, UFO and I think Space 1999 was the last one I recall.
I only ever bought the Fireball music though :)
(Supercar was in 1960, I am old)
There was also "Secret Service", "Four Feather Falls" and "Sparky the Battery Boy". "Man in a Suitcase" might also be one of his. There's more recent stuff such as "Terrahawks" too.

The Wombles were cool - look at the album cover again, Marshall Stacks and Vox AC30s. Nice.
Minueto Allegretto, Don't you go Wombling in the nettle patch, etc. One of the first albums I was given as a kid. No sign of it now which is a shame.
The first single I bought was Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson in 1969. Played on the family Dansette.
Heavy stuff for first single. After Fireball XL5 my music tastes "matured" and I had a crush on Helen Shapiro "Walking back to happiness" (amazing voice)

New car order being delayed twice now. This latest delay means there will be a gap between my new car arriving and my company car being returned. Also pushes me into the new VED rules for the first year, so OTR price has gone up.
Getting fed up and seriously considering cancelling.

Watch out if you cancel.
I did once and there was a clause on the order that basically said they could delay the delivery for any reason and we would be liable for any increase in taxes incurred during the delay AND would lose the deposit if we cancelled.
Needless to say they got several letters pointing out the unfairness of contract, the unreasonable deposit terms etc.
We went to another dealer and got a better price, better finance deal and they delivered on the original day.
Wet told everyone we knew about the first dealer and never went back.
Eventually got the first deposit back before the dealer franchise went bust. I didn't feel sorry for them.

Todays gripe from Mr Grumpy
The electric hob in the kitchen has failed, down right dangerously.
It is all touch control, everything is off and the hot hot hot ring comes on, wont go off. The touch controls says off, but the ring is lit up and belching out heat. If anything had been left on the ring it would have gone up in smoke.
Good job I came into the kitchen to grab something and noticed the hob burning away. Time for a new one.

There isn't one.
Turn off the isolator, turn it back on and the one ring comes back on, on full power and stays there even though the control says locked and all off. So new hob ordered.
Now, I needed to cook dinner last night, so I have to turn on the isolator to the oven/hob and as expected the one ring came on. I cannot leave it so start playing.
turn off the lock. ok everything is off the control panel says so, but the ring is lit brightly. For some reason I press the ring + and - buttons at the same time and click. The damn ring resets to off and everything works as expected.
This is the 3rd time this has happened, the last two times it reset by toggling the isolator. But each time it has happened after I have turned off the hob and walked away to return finding the one ring burning brightly. Though all is now well again, I cannot trust it not to happen again. So new hob will be fitted and in the meantime I now have a working hob whilst I wait the anticipated 5 days delivery. Just isolate after use.
Have you tried updating the firmware? :clown:
Of course if it's a software problem, the new one might have exactly the same issue...

Once you've posted once here, you just can't stop... :(
I've taken over the maintenance/driving of my Dad's 2010 1.33 VVt-i Yaris. It has a horrible 6 speed gearbox by which I mean that in cold weather: "reverse and first are sometimes not available at this time" and, if you get first, then put one foot on the firewall, let go of the steering wheel, depress the clutch (for a few seconds) put both hands on the gear lever and wrestle/fight for second. At this point you have crossed the bridge, defeated the "Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog" and the remaining gears are now freely available (until you try and come back across the bridge and face that damn rabbit again).
Warm weather/hot gearbox alleviates but doesn't eliminate the issue and first gear selection at traffic lights is still a crapshoot.
I posted on the Yaris site which is the reason for my gripe. I am so pleased that your Toyota "XXX" has now done 120,000 miles flawlessly but has that answered my question of "How do I fix this awful gearbox?".
I ended up putting Molyslip in it, a few people told me that there is no gearbox filler plug on the top of the gearbox...errm..guys not only can I see it, but it's listed in the parts diagram.
I then posted my results which indicated that it had improved the gear change action and get yet more people telling me how good their Toyota is after a million miles. It's exasperating.
If you post a problem on a Vauxhall forum the standard response is "I had that problem too" with no indication of how to resolve it just 38 people agreeing with you and 6 clearly under developed adolescents telling you to lower the suspension to make it go faster.

Wierdos that like dressing up in cosplay. I was a bit bemused to see some odd looking people while I waited at Banbury for a connecting train to the NEC for the Photography Show. Lots more oddities were on the train when I got on and I overheard the dreaded word "Comicon" from some squealing, salad-dodging, purple-haired young boys wearing fishnet stockings and tutu's. It got worse at the NEC - hoards of pillocks in a variety of other-worldly and faintly Star Wars-esque outfits competed with assorted rubbish super heroes who had realised a photo show meant lots of people with cameras so they were all "look at me" in every blinking corridor and walkway. Irritating attention seekers. I ignored them all, left the Canon firmly in the bag and got in the way of as many shots as I could on my way into and out of Hall 5. Harrumph.

I know what you mean, my youngest daughter is into Cosplay and I took her to the last Comicom event at the Excell last October. The place is full of the strangest people you'll ever meet.
I haven't any idea what cosplay is about, but there's loads of Marvel and DC comics characters, plus Star Trek, Judge Dred etc.
Some of the cast from Red Dwarf were there signing autographs.
Some of the costumes that the geeks wear are really good.
My daughter planned her costume for months, and wore blue face paint and on her arms as part of her character. For me the best part of being dragged around was that she told me it was one of the best days of her life.
She's planning for the next one in May, and I think she's going as a character from the Nintendo game Zelda.

The temptation to just get under the duvet and wait till it's all over is very strong!
I have work to get out to as well Dom and I have to tackle 4 miles of frozen snowy lane to get out to the main road to get to my client. The job is going to involve liaising with that bunch of criminal incompetents at Talk Talk on behalf of my client in an attempt to get them to sort her broadband out. Neither the journey nor the job are at all appealing but have to be done.

That's bonkers. Someone needs to think a little more carefully about how that is likely to affect working parents!

Harrumph.Oh I don't know, I can see the attraction of Cosplay...

Well, the sun is out, temperature has gone up a few degrees, the snow is melting rapidly, and my mood has instantly lifted!
Out on my first job now and even the prospect of dealing with Talk Talk isn't quite so depressing now.

Trust me - none of them looked anything like that!

Closest I've come to anything like that was when a friend had a fancy dress party with a theme of 'Not Real People' and I went as Noodle from Gorillaz from the Melancholy Hill video. I made the dress from something found in a charity shop and customised it with ribbon and fabric paint and got the gloves there too, the gun from the toy shop, the mask I made from foamboard which I cut and painted. I temporarily dyed my hair purple and blue and also created the black eye bruising with face paints. It was fun creating the outfit and my nephews got me to wear it all again for Halloween.
That's Mr LPH, he went as Caitlyn Kardashian!

Lancashire Plodary.
Last night I took the daughter and her partner to watch the Courteeners playing at King Georges Hall Blackburn. It isn't a big venue. But the town was crawling with plod, Cars, Vans and even horses. For a warm up gig in a one horse town.
I got an early shout to collect them after the gig. It turns out the plod have shut every town centre bar. Probably the busiest night of the year so far and plod decide to cut every bar/pubs revenue stream. Despite there being no trouble.
So they are there on mass, on overtime, how do we keep the OT going. Lets put a couple of thousand kids on the streets at 10:00pm and we have to be there on OT because of the number of people with nowhere to go. Blackburn town centre is deadsville, the few remaining bars would have welcomed the extra footfall.
Talk about provoking problems.

That does sound like overkill. A reasonable approach would have been to have plod on OT and very visible in town but only react if needed.
