I agree, keep it local or keep it indoors. Go for a walk around the block. No need to drive anywhere for a walk. The only reason I've driven for the last four weeks is to go for the weekly shop.

This is EXACTLY what the government orders are. It has nothing to do with privilege, wealth, class, call it what you want. I cannot understand how so many people are somehow turning something designed to keep more of us alive into some kind of put down on the less well advantaged.

It's not though

They've changed the advice wildly like they're gearing up to lift lockdown. You may now drive to the shop to buy luxuries and beer. You may now exercise more than once per day and for longer than 1 hour, in fact on a long walk you are permitted to stop for lunch...and you may drive to go on a walk "as long as you spend more time walking than driving". Seeing as you can walk all day you can presumably drive somewhere half a day's travel away.

Opinions aside they need to sort out the advice; how clear it is and how it's disseminated

As someone who lives in a beauty spot right now and has seen an uptick in people around, I do think people should be able to drive to the closest greenspace to them (not keen on across town though as they all end up pooling at the popular spots). Some people live in areas where it isn't particularly safe to walk around in let alone appealing - and it's important people stay fit (mentally too).

Part of the problem is definitely how they're spreading the word but I've heard from newspapers and radio as well as it featuring on our workplace update as we're gov linked.

The best I could quickly find (I'm not linking to the sun) was ITV. They have actually taken the liberty of adding their interpretation and softening it a bit.

The information above is the interpretation of the law by the police - in an effort to make sure that police act in a consistent manner. It's a good step forward, as people (particularly media outlets) are consistently and probably intentionally conflating the law, government advice, and off-hand comments made by ministers.

Stargazing! Despite a lifetime of disappointments I keep trying to observe these astronomical events and nothing ever changes.
This week:
1) The Lyrid meteor shower, peaked on 22nd - 10-20 per hour they said. I get up at 1:30am and see 1 in 30 mins - back to bed.

2) The Starlink satellites. Last night at 9:34 pm supposed to appear in the west (255°) at 10° elevation (too low for me) but climbs to 72° elevation and sets in the east (88°). They will be bright and look like a string of pearls. Started watching at 9:25 pm gave up at 9:40 pm. I read this morning they're sometimes 10 mins late (what? we can't predict a string of satellites to within 10 mins).

If you want to waste your time, here's the Starlink finder - it's set to Hull, so you'll need to change it (assuming you're not in Hull) https://findstarlink.com/#1525;3

Why do these viruses always seem to coincide with Chinese new year, millions of Chinese from western countries flock back to China, mix well with everyone, then get on a plane which takes them to the four corners of the planet in less than a day - also millions left Wuhan before it was closed down and disappeared into the rest of China. If you wanted to devise a scheme to spread a disease as quickly as possible that is the plan you would adopt.... aided and abetted by the Chinese hiding the true nature of the virus and the WHO falling down on the job -

And then people in Western Europe flock to Italian and Austrian ski resorts in February, despite knowing the virus is spreading in Europe .... or go to Cheltenham .... or the Liverpool v Atletico game ... or the seaside in March.

You can't just blame the Chinese government and population. Every other Government in the world (apart from Germany and New Zealand, it seems) has been equally ignorant and negligent in failing to take serious action when they could clearly see what was happening in Asia.

I would argue that the actions of Western governments make them more to blame than the Chinese government: the Chinese weren't sure what was really happening until it was too late. However, every Western government could clearly see what was happening in China, and had the chance to respond with measures to control infections before they got out of hand, but chose to ignore or dismiss the virus' spread.

The Chinese hid the truth from the world, they knew what was happening and suppressed the doctors in China trying to tell the world, the WHO were useless ( Trump is right to withdraw funding ) it looks like Australia and new Zealand did not trust China and put measures in place as soon as rumours started... Maybe they are cynical of China with good reason. When the truth comes out about German infections and deaths will anyone be shocked ? Germany seems to be bending the truth a bit as well. As for the mighty and benevolent EU, they have left member states to fend for themselves.

the gov will change the rules around social distancing as time goes on. social distancing is all about filtering sick people into the hospitals in dribs and drabs rather than overwhelming the NHS. its nothing to do with keeping us safe, there is nothing that can be done for that.

everywhere you go there are viral and bacterial contamination. usually these are at sort of safe levels as most people have immunity to them but now and again people get the flu, common cold, sore throats etc.etc as our body's immune system takes a little sleep usually due to stress. just think about people in your household who have the cold, not everyone in the household contracts it from that person and even if they do it might not manifest.

the symptoms of the C19 are not the actual virus but your body's reaction to fighting it just like any other viral infection.

some people catch a cold and have a sniffle, some people are bed bound with the exact same cold. this is exactly the same for C19.

its time for the world to wake up to this kind of thing... it could be a full on human extinction the next time.

china knew what they were doing by not publishing the facts soon enough so yes i agree that to teach the chinese gov a lesson china should be segregated for a minimum of 10years. nothing in/out. after all this is not the first time they have done it.

So my buyer contacts me to say on checking the tracking shows could not deliver as address was incorrect or incomplete? It's using Royal Mails own info WTF?

They didn't even try a second delivery, or check the postcode. It's being returned to me.

Bennett's couldn't add the GSXR 750 to my current insurance policy with the VF as the current insurer doesn't accept crash bungs on the policy. Only the VFR has crash bung, and they're listed on the policy as was pointed out by the guy on the phone. He couldn't work it out and offered to start a whole new poilcy for me instead... ie cancel the VFR insurance, get stung with a cancellation fee and then reinsure with them at quite a high cost. I gave up and did it myslef taking out a new poilcy just for the GSXR with Carole Nash. Worked out cheaper. Bit of a pain having two policies though and of course the second poilcy takes no notice of my no claims I've built up.
Classic case of computer says no. Stupid thing is the GSXR 750 I had a few months back was on the Bennett's policy as a second bike and that had crash bungs too and was worth a lot more than this one, but only cost a small amount to add.

Michael Gove made the point that people wearing masks in public get a false sense of security and do not follow distancing and other rules, he advised government to stick with social distancing for a while longer rather than telling public at large to wear masks. Bet there would be 'mask parties' advertised on internet --- ( especially in Manchester ).

Has anyone noticed the number of masks, wipes and rubber gloves abandoned in supermarket trolleys and on the carparks.

I hurt. Because I did something stupid.

Tried to climb up the 4ft stone wall onto the bank behind the house by bracing myself between the house wall and the bank wall. Obviously I fell off. Smacked the back of the top of my right arm on the corner of the house wall on the way down, and landed on my coccyx. Both now bruised and hurting.

Should have done the sensible thing and just gone for the stepladder.

Ebay again. First bad feedback I've ever had as a seller. I sold something just as the government started the lockdown and we were isolating our whole family as my son had a cough anyway. I realised part of the item was at my Dad's, two hours journey away, so contacted the buyer saying I couldn't get it as I couldn't travel (and my vulnerable Dad couldn't have visitors or leave the house) and I reversed the transaction and cancelled the order straight away, within a few hours of the listing ending.
I had no idea at the time but it seems Paypal too a couple of weeks to transfer the money back to him and now he's left feedback for me saying I changed my mind and didn't bother to send it and it took him weeks to get his money back. The way he's worded it sounds like I just changed my mind and then tried not to refund him and he had to fight for his money back. I even explained the situation to him all the way through the process. Weeks later he's left this lying feedback and it seems there's nothing I can do about it apart from use the 80 characters max to reply to the feedback and explain to other prospective buyers.

The back injury that caused me the most pain and consigned me to not being able to walk for nearly a week was caused by putting a plate in the dishwasher (over stretching whilst twisting).

Yeah, and those paper cuts can be really nasty as well - especially if you don't have a risk assessment method statement for handling paper, which would of course say you had to wear cut-proof kevlar gloves and safety glasses, and bend your knees and not your back if you had to pick paper up before handling it.

eBay finally stepping in weeks later and closing the return in my favour. The seller hasn't sent a label, so they've just reveresed the transaction back to me and I haven't even sent the item back. No surprise suddenly the seller is sending me loads of messages asking to send me postage money to get them back to him. I've wasted so much time and stress on this the last few weeks.

Just read that Ace Cafe London will not be reopening after lockdown. There are ceasing trade in London and will be opening in Barcelona. Was on my list to visit at some point.

Where else would you buy second hand parts? If it was on Facebook I'd be totally out of pocket. There's so many scammers on there, selling bits of bikes they don't even have, taking photos from dealers sites and saying it's theirs and they're breaking it. Search FB market place for scammer and you'll see loads of people reporting them.

Places like the Stafford bike show, although that's not going to be happening this year I wouldn't think....

Bit tricky a few weeks ago when it wasn't happening. I guess I should have asked where online?

Bruised or broken/fractured ribs. Excruciatingly painful.

I had very bruised ribs after someone drove through me when I was cycling to collect the kids from school a couple of years ago. Not fun. Hurt to breath for two months (with muscle painful spasms in reaction to anything more than light inhaling at first) and made lots of things very difficult. Hope you heal up soon Gary.

Almost home from a run the other evening and a quarter of a mile from home when a dog in a garden lunged at Mabel who then managed to trip me up with the lead. I went down and smacked my head on the road. Cuts and grazes to hand, knee, and head, bruised finger, and painful ribs. There was a copious amount of blood and a lot of swearing!

Wait till you sneeze :smt009

Couple of close calls today, but managed to stave them off. Coughing hurts like hell.

Ouch, I remember what cracked ribs feel like. And the doctors smirk as he prodded me and said "Does this hurt?"
Yes it ****ing does.
I fell off my pushbike and slammed into the side of a ditch. I was doing about 30 mph at the time.

Best lay off the gardening too Gary.

Cheers all. Been feeling much better today, ribs seem to be on the mend now.

That's good - I've had cracked ribs before (my own fault, naturally) and they can take a while - hopefully this means the damage was not too bad.

My gripe - both my wife and I were feeling unwell on Tuesday evening, my wife coughing a bit. We decided to get home tests on Wednesday morning, so book them in at about 8.

They arrive the next day, but at 6pm. Collection is next-day, but you can't book a collection until you've received the shipping labels, and you can't book in after 4pm. So we had to wait until today to book in a pickup for tomorrow, three days after requesting them, and with a 2-3 day turnaround target.

So, chances are we'll get a result on Tuesday, just as our seven-day isolation ends anyway. We were hoping for negative results before the weekend, so we could get out! My wife suggested we could at least have a lie-in, but we now have to be up by 7 to do the swabs and wait for the pickup.

There are many people in a worse position, I know, but this is just a gripe! :)
