Hmmmm. I need to check I can still top up my simple O2 PAYG by the sounds of it. A £10 top up normally lasts me at least a year as I use it for incoming calls but as I'm now at home I don't have a desk phone for outgoing calls. Annoying.

5 nights of cough, cough, cough. Is it getting better? Is it hell, its getting worse. I'd love a decent night's sleep.
Lockdown!
Appreciate its for our own good but a day and a half in and I might need to find a quiet corner of the garden for the wife's body. She is driving me nuts! Yesterday ALL the curtains were washed. Today the fitted robes were emptied and rearranged. I'm trying to binge watch a series on TV and she wants me to keep popping into the bedroom to advise on where I want my clothes.
A bottle of wine may need to be opened.

We have a home delivery ordered so we can avoid going out and continue self isolating just in case what we have is the virus. The only problem is the next available slot is April 6th. We'll be out of food in just over a week if my (turning into a teenager) son keeps inhaling food the way growing kids do!Morrisons will be doing an 'essentials box' from this weekend - a standard package of staples to meet demand. These will be dispatched direct from the depots rather stores, so increased capacity. That might help too.
I have been all over the place to get a few essentials but no luck. The co op store say they have plenty of stock but not the transport capacity to move it. Surely they could drop non essential items like alcohol and use the space for items they do need.

Five a day, minimum.
silly people up here have been reading into things wrong, they think alcohol kills the CV so they have all been going out and getting pizzed... NO you morons it kills the CV if you use it on your hands just like a gel sanitiser. but hey any excuse :-)
all the supermarkets in my town are limiting 2 items per household, if your caught bringing family/friends in to bulk buy your barred from that store for LIFE. too little to late i say but its a step in the right direction.
i wonder if 2x24 crates of beer count as 2 items :-)

We had to buy 4 miniature tins of baked beans the other day just to get the same quantity as one normal size can as the normal tins had been carried out by the crate load.

I went to the local Tesco on Tuesday and it was fine. There was bog roll, tissues and most things available.
I went again after work Wednesday evening and the place had been absolutely ravaged. Not even any fresh meat or milk, no sausages, bread, tins .... and parents at the pharmacy being told to come back at 6am the following morning when there might be new stocks of Calpol.
The outlook wasn't too bad. A bit of an imagination and preparedness to live off beer, Ice cream, frozen broccoli and gluten free items and it'll be reet.

The fairly slow response to CV here in NI. I'm a cleaner in a factory which employs hundreds of people, we do not have materials capable of the jobs we do before viral outbreaks, there has been little advice except wash your hands and reducing canteen tables from 6 chairs to 4. My direct employers have so far said nothing regarding what would happen should the factory gates close, particularly regarding £
I live with my mum who is a kidney failure patient currently on a medical trial so she's very much vulnerable to anything that I may carry home with me, even asymptomatic. Isolation is a family affair with my sister and 11month old nephew as much in house here, as she is her own.
Was in town this morning and Savers store got toilet roll. People queued out the door and down the road. One person had three 18 packs. So greedy and selfish . Thats two other people who can't buy a pack.

Yes I've been reading up on this. I'll check the stator tomorrow for resistance values and leakage to earth. If this is good and based on the fact that charging voltages were all in tolerance a week or so ago then I'm going to cut out the connector and solder up the wires. This seems to be the popular view on vfrdiscussion forum.
I did think i could smell a slight electrical burning smell last year whilst riding. Now i know why.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using TapatalkHonda fixed. Stator checked out fine so by-passed the connector. Getting a nice steady 14.7v at the battery. Which is about 0.1 above what I was getting before but below 15v as specified in the manualhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200321/3a6f53c2dbc99ffddc75db40f4cbbbf1.jpg

Did Honda (the reliable power of dreams) make their connectors from Babybel cheese?
Did Honda (the reliable power of dreams) make their connectors from Babybel cheese? It would seem so. The odd thing I noticed is that the gauge of the wires coming from the stator is significantly smaller than the guage going to the reg/rec. Combine that with a connector that can't cope and you get issues. To be fair the bike is 13 years old so no doubt some corrosion get in despite my best efforts.

Larger supermarkets like Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's probably have 'click and collect' building or tent in the carpark and if you have a vehicle it may be a good alternative to waiting for delivery slot. It minimizes the contact between customers and other customers and customers and staff and because you already paid online just grab and go...
So it looks like our local Tesco don't do this, despite being huge! There is one the other side of Bristol that does, but all their collection slots are booked up until after April 10th. We'll be running out of food in the next few days. Not sure what we're meant to do. Friends nearby are also staying home, relatives hiding out miles away.

I just cancelled my Devitts insurance for the Kawasaki H1 (it's sold). This was a mistake since their cancellation charge (£50) means I have to pay another £36 for the privilege of the cancellation. The policy had another 4 months to run and had been paid in full. Since I told them I'd sold the bike they wouldn't let me backtrack and let the policy expire.

You should never keep insurance running on a vehicle you have sold. Technically any subsequent claim can come back to you.

Good point, although in previous occasions I've had a portion of the premium refunded. Obviously insurance companies have decided to make money from cancellations, when trying to offer policies at the lowest price. Clawing back a bit here and there.
However when I changed cars, my premium was reduced and I got a bit back

It makes it much more likely I'll part-ex rather than selling privately because of this.

I got shouted at today for daring to walk into my local Co-Op store. Some pimply 12 year old yelled at me to get out several times, pointing at a child's easel half hidden behind the door with about a dozen overlapping signs on A5 paper with 8-point font. Still don't know what any of it said. Apparently I should have also used my x-ray eyes to realise there was already 5 people in the store, although by the time I left I had counted at least eight of us...
They had no sugar and the same imbecile walked right up beside me twice to reach past me for something. Both times I said "really?" and both time he looked at me blankly before going "oh yeah" while just standing there. I despair about the human race sometime, on so many levels!!!

The amount of keyboard warriors and self appointed authorities that seem to have permeated every aspect of what were, until recently, friendly useful FB groups / forums etc..
That and finally back out of the house back to work. The last few days working at the shop have been stressful to say the least. Trying to function and work second guessing everything you've touched / cleaned and the constraints now put upon us, with the onslaught of impatient customers who have urgent bikes needing to be repaired that have previously been rotting in sheds for several years. If it wasn't for the desperate need for the money and the few properly necessary repairs to nurses bikes we're doing then I definitely wouldn't be there. The ability to apply for financial help in a couple of months as a self employed mechanic doesn't really help me either. 80 percent of the last 3 years of business losses means I'm likely enititled to zilch. I have to keep working and really don't want to be around people and the bikes we're being handed.
Thoroughly depressing trip to try and get some food in for the family this afternoon too. Queued through a car park for half an hour to eventually get allowed inside and find they didn't have half the stuff we needed. Couldn't bring myself to go to another supermarket and queue again. Came home without half the essentials.
Hoping to find something to add to the smile thread later. Feeling pretty down and frustrated all round.

The trick is to go just before they close. Everyone has buggered off and the shelf stackers have started
not being able to deliver stuff to my wife in the care home........ which i can fully understand but when they run out of stuff like milk then how are the clients supposed to get stuff. whats wrong with them picking up the phone and asking. or sending a member of staff to go do it. after all they send them to the chemist.
i'm buying it from the shops like them and i'm wearing gloves when i do... unlike them, who are not wearing gloves when caring for their clients.
Common sense needs to be applied - if you're wearing gloves and intend to leave stuff on the step for collection, where's the problem?
its not so common this sense thing.....

I am high risk (lung cancer) and have had a letter from the government telling me to isolate for 12 weeks, so we have been looking for home delivery slots but initially there were none. My other half stayed logged on until 2am for a new slot to be released and eventually got one with Asda. So a large shop was ordered to arrive this evening. We got very confused when a box of groceries turned up this morning with a bunch of items we hadn't ordered. Finally we realised that the box this morning was from the government for at risk people, not Asda. The Asda order just arrived and we are now out of space to store everything.
sorry to hear you have lung cancer. this is the first of me finding out :(

Timing...
My wife's contract of employment was terminated over the phone with an hours notice by the NHS due to her ill health Last Thursday, about 3 hours after I posted her ill health retirement application through the front door of the pensions dept.
We knew it was coming, but brutal process. TBH, her managers, HR and pensions have gone out of their way to treat her with respect. Co-Incidentally she was paid last Thursday and we were advised her salary in lieu of notice, outstanding leave etc would be paid next month at the next payroll run.
Nope, it happened a week later, yesterday and her outstanding money is now in the bank.... But timing. If they had done at the next month, ie. tax year 20-21. She would not be taxable, so she has lost £600 to the taxman simply because her salary in lieu was processed ASAP instead of when her next salary was due.
Not looking forward to claiming her benefit entitlement, we have a estimate as to her rubbish NHS pension. But no formal statement and told in normal times it can take 8 -12 weeks.

Make sure you're wearing two pairs of gloves. The smell of drain water doesn't come off your hands for weeks until the skin wears away. I made the mistake of going without gloves once and every time I lifted food to my mouth for the next week I nearly thre up with the smell ingrained in my hands, even after scrubbing them raw to try and clean the smell off.

If you haven't started stop a moment!!
For our extension we planned a manhole in the house for the sewer. Welsh Water turned down consent as they no longer want manholes in houses. The reason they said no was that there are rodding access points upstream and downstream of our extension, rendering our manhole redundant.
Have you checked for a rodding point (manholes or just a little flappy cover thing) withing range elsewhere? Next door's garden? in the back lane?
Good luch whatever the outcome.

Cheers Mike, there is a rodding point (big unscrew cap) but it's unsuitable as it then immediately goes round a double U bend so you can't rod there. It then goes round a couple of other bends before joining a manhole on the original sewage lines. Dynorod have tried this and failed, bit worried the drain has collapsed.
I've had to dig down to a straight piece of pipe to rod each way. Just detol-ing my drill as I've had to holesaw a rodding point and found out just how much pressure was in there :pale::puker:

The Tesco delivery we waited three weeks for arrived, with most essential parts of it missing. Of the things they did deliver that we ordered, about half of it was so short dated that it went off within two days of delivery. I've had to go shopping for all the bits they left out that make up the largest parts of any meals we had planned, rendering waiting for the delivery fairly pointless. The home delivery thing to avoid supermarkets as was suggested really isn't working. We couldn't book another delivery in the next month locally even if we wanted to.

complain and remind them there are lots of other supermarkets out there and due to the short shelf life of most of the goods you would like a partial/full refund.
TBH i'm very very very disappointed in ALL the supermarkets in how disorganised they are/have been during this lockdown. jeezzz even my local corner shop can deliver to me within a day. a few corner shops here have been delivering to the OAP's for years so they are set up for doing deliveries.

Can't blame the supermarkets for selfish idiots booking out all the delivery slots. . . . . even with the increase of an extra 100K slots. Same goes for the lack of stock and dates on items, they can only supply what they get in & is left after the selfish people have been in to bulk buy unnecessarily.
What you can blame is the media hype rubbish which caused it in the 1st instance.

Generally I find that you can get a slot about 24 hours before delivery as some people seem to cancel, or a time gets opened up.
I have found mid afternoon is the time to find something that is free in the next day or 2, with Tesco.

But when you order basic essentials like pasta and rice over three weeks in advance it's a bit of a crap system if they don't put any aside for you and you end up having to do the shop you were advised not to do three weeks ago anyway.
I'd agree with the hype not helping. Social media too, full of people's photos of empty shelves. When I actually went shopping I could have taken photos of empty areas, but could also have taken photos of the majority of the shop's well stocked areas too if I wanted to paint a positive picture. I'm guessing the media (social and commercial) chose to err on the side of the sensationalist point of view and hyped the hysteria. I had less choice, but plenty to buy really and it just highlighted to me the crazy amount of choice we have normally.

How far in advance should they put stuff to one side, considering people regularly change/cancel orders it is a lot of admin for the supermarket to manage at the best of times.
Everything is packed/picked on the day so they can only take what's on the shelves like a customer. IIRC it is only Asda that deliver from a warehouse, the rest do it from the store shelves.

Yes, but what I'm saying is that the suggestion a few weeks back that we should all be shopping online doesn't work . The current system doesn't work for circumstances like we have at the moment. Order online to avoid being around people... have to got to the shops anyway and be around people. The pick on the day system doesn't work for the current situation, so the suggestion a few weeks ago that we should all be doing it was pointless.
My Dad is classified as vulnerable. He got a letter telling him that he'd get food delivered and should stay home for 3 months. He's had no one get in touch since and no luck with any supermarkets when he's contacted them. So the best he's managed to get was a two week wait for a click and collect, which he had to go out to the supermarket to collect. He'd just moved house too so the cupboards and freezer etc were empty. I wanted to go and get a shop for him but he's a 120 mile round trip away, so I think I'd get in trouble if I did that journey.

My interpretation of the guidlines was that you could make that trip.
The newer (or perhaps old ones, clarified?)guidelines seem much softer. You may drive to the shop to buy luxury items or beer, you may drive to go on a walk, you may go on a long walk and rest to eat lunch. I'm not sure how those are acceptable but you can't spend two hours in an isolated car to care for your Dad.

You need to get in contact with your local supermarket to sort out a delivery. If you speak to head office they can put you in touch with the local store, who can then arrange the delivery.
My Mother works for one of the big chain supermarkets, and this should be the process for getting him a delivery.
buying a NEW camera from Amazon only to discover that its a customer return.. if it were not for the fact i need it to document a project i would have sent it back.
how do i know its a customer return. it came with finger prints on the screen and the screen protective film removed.
ok so it was a cheap canon ixus 185 but that not the point it was supposed to be NEW.

Put a claim in. They'll probably send out a new one and you can keep using the original in the meantime

That's sharp practice by the vendor. Was it from Amazon itself or a marketplace vendor? As above, complain long and loud.

I've had the same. Did as Darren suggests (in fact they didn't ask for the return back so I ended up with two £60 cameras)

Yeah. And now some (a small minority) think he has a valid point on Covid & 5G. The funniest part of it is believing the video was taken down because they were trying to cover up the truth :smt046
Some people really are out there when it comes to not having a thought process.

Lots of these people seem to be parked at the bottom of my road right now so they can go for their daily walk in the park. It is NOT essential to drive to a nicer area for your walk and you are in fact potentially bringing the plague with you to the area where I live, you selfish f***tards.

No, he is absolutely right. This is supposed to be the point of lock down, to stop the virus travelling and being transmitted. Anyone who thinks travel away from where they live for a bit a of fresh air is OK is the one being selfish - they may have the virus and bring it with them to an un-infected area. So I'm 100% with Sir Trev, don't travel to where I live in case you have the virus! I'll do you the same courtesy by not travelling to where you live.
I live in a small village, where luckily no one has yet gone down with the virus. We do not want walkers, mountain bikers, cyclists or anyone else driving here for 'a bit of fresh air' and potentially bringing the virus with them. You can all **** off back to your own home (primary residence of course)! The same attitude applies to the same selfish ********s who think they can drive to the countryside to fly-tip, eat their Macdonalds and chuck the crap out the window, shag in the passing places when Mrs. Evans is taking the kids to school and innumerable other selfish acts in the place where I live - Go Home!

No not privileged at all, just worked for what I have. Most people in my area are in min. wage jobs, many laid off due to COVID-19. Many others are pensioners, relying on the state pension to get by. Anyone travelling unnecessarily into our area is the definition of selfish - thinking of themselves as more important than others, putting their desires ahead of the needs of the many.

Well said, Lp
There are too many arrogant $hits with attitudes where they can do as they 8loody well like, and 8ugger the rest. Perhaps they could take a look at the self-sacrifice of the villagers of Eyam in Derbyshire at the time of the Black Death.
They locked themselves in, and suffered terribly for it, but at least their gesture helped the greater population.
Not the sort of thing that happens these days and unfortunately not evident in some who frequent this forum.
Shame on you!
